DTC code C1142 and C1109 - Help please?

ABS, ESP and slip light were lighted up yesterday after work. No lights when started up my zed, drove a couple yards to a junction, applied brakes and those lights came up. Zed didn't go into limp mode or show any other signs. Stopped at traffic lights, restarted my zed, lights goes away. But as soon as I started to brake again, those lights lighted up again. Not flashing.

Managed to get my local garage to read them codes, and his reader returned these 2 codes.

C1109 - Battery voltage out of range

C1142 - ABS pressure sensor circuit fault

Anyone experienced this before? What's the fix? Hopefully it's something easy and cheap to fix.

I suppose it's still OK to drive just that my zed's ABS might not be working?

Many thanks in advance.

This happened to me very recently. Code reader showed with me that the rear ABS sensor was faulty. Brother in law changed them on the weekend and problem seems to have been solved so far!

When starting up, the lights wouldn't be on but I would have a whining noise through the brake pedal for around 200-300 yards. After this, the dash would light up (abs, esp, slip light) and would stay on. Didn't affect the feel on the car for me, as I was driving sensibly with the lights on. It began with the lights going off after restarting the engine etc, but went to the point where the lights would always stay on then after 200-300 yards

I also had the battery voltage code come up (this seemed to mention something to do with the Cruise Control fro, doing some searching?)

I hope this is of any use! I'll dig the codes I had through on my previous thread for you, see if they match up.

Thanks mate!

Battery voltage in my zed is reads at 14v when engine is started up. But I can't remember where they used to be before this issue. Since the fault code says battery out of range, was it too high?

I'm hoping the ABS pressure sensor circuit fault will be a small job to fix i.e replace the pressure sensor, not the whole ABS actuator. :scare:

Edit: My zed was parked up for 4 days throughout the Easter holidays. Don't think that contributes to the issue.

No problems. Hmm...the code I had showed that there as a problem with the sensor, therefore a realtively easy/cheap fix. And it has seemed to work,

Snap, the voltage gauge shows my voltage around 14v, think it's a common thing in the Zed!

The lights on my car came on, dissapeared for 3 months & came back on permanently then!

Sorry can't be of more help with regards to your code, but the same symptoms happened with mine & sensor seems to be the culprit!

Brake fluid topped up to 'Max', still have those lights lighted up after 2nd or 3rd time using the brakes. Did a simple test whilst car was stationary by restarting my zed, few pumps on the brake pedal and those lights were lighted up. Any further diagnostic that i should check?

On another note, I'm hoping my OBD reader will arrive today and it will work. I'm expecting same DTC fault codes.

Try the codes again. As mentioned, my OBD2 showed that it was the sensor. Hence that's where I started. If it wasn't that, I did think about changing the reluctor rings (abs rings) although I understand that is more of a fiddle. As mentioned, it's a process of elimination unfortunately! Start with the cheap fixes, and go from there!

Yep, I've been in contact with Alex. Will reset my ECU and read fresh codes again. Hopefully it's a simple fix rather than a big costly job. :scare:

My local garage can't pin point it to which component was faulty hence propose me to send it to Nissan specialist to check using proper Nissan OBS Consult 3 diagnostic tool.

Hence I've decided to book my zed in to Lockwood and Greenwood (Manchester ) next Friday to look into this.

Will report back once this is sorted so that others can be aware of this next time for future reference.

A massive thank you to Alex (ZMANALEX) for his help on this matter. He's been a 'Star' for the past week trying his best to help me with this issue.

Have you checked that all your brake lights are coming on as they should when you press the brake pedal?

Worth a quick check if you haven't already.

When my brake pedal switch was faulty I remember having the battery voltage out of range error too and L&G wanted to replace the abs pump etc. as that is what the error codes suggested until it was realised the brake lights werent working properly.

Thanks Gudzy, i've checked the brake lights as suggested by you and Zmanalex. They worked fine.

Zmanalex sold me a pre-loved ABS actuator unit. L&G removed the ABS pump today and checked it. They confirmed it was the pump issue.

They are charging me £260 (diagnostic, removing and installing new ABS pump, replacing all brake lines with braided lines that i supply to them and brake fluid) I think that's a fair deal.

A little summary here just in-case someone did a search for similar issue......

Dash light lighted up: ABS, ESP and Slip

What triggers them: When idling, few press on the brake will trigger them or when you press the brake, slowing down to a junction or traffic light.

Symptoms: Car drives normally, not on limp mode, just no ABS or ESP capability as they are disabled

Fault code: C1143 and C1109 (Only possible using proper OBD tool, don't think a cheap bluetooth dongle will read them)

These lights will reset when you turn engine off, but will reappear once you press the brake (sometimes 1 press, sometimes a few)

Things to check yourself before getting help from specialist:

1.) Brake fluid level - make sure they are topped up to Max level

2.) Rear brake lights - make sure they are on when lights are switched on and the should be brighter when you press your brake

3.) Brake pedal switch - make sure they are not faulty

If all those above fail to resolve this, time to go to a specialist unfortunately :scare:

In my case, they checked all sensor, brake light, etc. Finally diagnosed to faulty ABS actuator pump.

If you need a good quality pre-loved ABS actuator pump :pmzmanalex: - Great service from Alex
