FallenAngelX
Hey all, car has recently been serviced 500 miles ago ish. Oil will have been done. On idle if I'm say stopped at lights the low oil pressure light will flash up then goes when I start driving. On watching the gauge at idle pressure is barely above 0, it raises relative to rpm, max I usually see is 60 ish. How accurate is the oil pressure gauge? Should I have this looked at? Cheers
Ricey
Yup. Could be a faulty pressure switch. Could be a buggered engine. Could be wrong oil. You need it checking before you do any damage Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
davey_83
Ive heard of this before when using non gen oil filters. What level is the oil at? *cold engine
ZEUS
Check the oil level first.
Mopedmark
Your first presumption is that the oil would have been changed, there are tons of horror stories about of yes yes yes they changed the oil but hey aft checking it they had not changed it even though you have paid them for it, so Do Not trust them on that one, Check your oil (bet it's low) if it is low top it up then check your pressure

Mopedmark
Surprised but very good for you gauge next then or pressure switch
andybp
best option is to fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge into the port the sender is plugged into (if you have one that is) this will tell you if you actually have low oil pressure if the oil pressure is good then its more likely to be the sender than the gauge
glrnet
I wouldn't be driving that anywhere until the oil pressure is checked properly
ATTAK Z
Does it use any oil?
Ricey
I wouldn't be driving that anywhere until the oil pressure is checked properly Just take it to the garage!! By the time your buggered about buying/borrowing gauges etc you could have it sorted. If it is a true oil pressure issue you'll only end up another statistic in the Zed graveyard by delaying. Obviously if you're handy and have the tools then do it but otherwise just get it looked at asap Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
-Bradders-
Uh oh. This is exactly how mine was! Pressure drops to just over 0 when you stop the oil light pops on but goes if you blip the throttle right? Same as what mine started doing. Then it used more oil than fuel lol. FallenAngelX
An update to this. The engine has been Terra cleaned New oil sensor has been put in Oil filter has been cleaned and so has the oil pan Issue still persists. Gauge is showing increasing oil pressure relative to rpm but it's sat low. 2k revs pulls around 25psi A oil pump and timing chain has been suggested but isn't guaranteed to fix the issue, but the labour will cost a good amount. Not sure where to go from here
davey_83
Genuine sender? As above - have a mechanical oil pressure gauge plumbed into the port the sender is plugged into a a gauge the can lie
Richf
What year is the car ? Very unlikely to be the oil pump Edited April 13, 2016 by Richf@H-Dev
