AlyWW
I'm sure you get newbies comming on here asking obvious questions all the time, but I'll ask anyway! I'm looking into importing a JDM Fairlady Z but can't get my head round the idea of spending £10 - 15K on a car I've never driven, but if I buy one one from a delaer that I can see first I'm going to end up paying their £2K odd markup. What are other peoples thoughts? - How many peaple on here have done this, anyone had any problems? Anyone ordered one through JCImports in Newcastle? I'm having an operation on my ear early Feb and want to try and sort out ordering / buying one a couple of weeks after that before I go back to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sarnie
Loads of people on here buy cars without driving one Somepeople don't have time to pop over to Japan to test drive a zed. Why not visit a local dealer and test a uk car? ?The JDM will be virtually the same depending on what spec you buy Oh and
stuey
go to a dealer and test drive one divvy..............
Ozz
I bought my jdm 350 without driving it - will find out sat if its any good! Seems like a good dealer though - HSC cars in Glouscester. Did give the car a good look over first though. He had quite a few 350s there. I think I contacted JCImports after someone on here or another forum recommended them - he had some low priced imports in blue. I got an email off him saying he was on holiday then he didn't bother contacting me so I went elsewhere (i didn't chase him tho)

Hey mate i used bonsai cars, they told me it would be 3 months but more like 5! Then to top it off the car that i ordered didnt come so had to take another one! I actually worked out better for me, but just make sure its a grade 5. Then had to pick it up in southhampton but overall am pretty pleased

Could be they are selling fast but I got the feeling they were just getting you to contact them. Whatever you do, avoid Torque of Knightly in Yorkshire - heard sooo many horror stories about them from the supra forums I frequent.
AlyWW
I'm going to try and test drive one this weekend, but it's more the worry about finding the car I've ordered has been thrashed / abused in Japan rather than if I like driving a 350Z. Am I right in thinking the aution grades are only based on body work / history and not mechanical condition which is not checked? I am going to contact JCI next week and see what they say. I've heard some good things about Bonsai but also everyone seems to say their cars have taken 5 months or more to arrive. I could hndle waiting 2 or 3 months but not 5! AlyWW
I also heard lots of bad things about Torque - they were around when I bought an FTO in 1999 (before they became chavish) and all they had were lots of very over priced scrappy cars. Zummertor
as said go test drive UK one, you'll love it. Then have a search around there are nearly endless threads on here with those that know opinions liberally sprinkled with humour or not. Why not just buy a JDM that is already in the UK, preferably one that is privately for sale..and then hopefully it will be fully sorted ,probably with a few nice goodies fitted..Then you will have no worries about waiting months for a car to arrive with no guarantee of condition or worse putting your money with one of the importers who may go bust in the meantime There's simply loads of good cars for sale at present at very cheap prices, I personally would never give someone my money upfront and then wait months for a secondhand car to arrive...Also if you see a car advertised privately there is also scope for negotiation as to the price.. rmmackfc
JC Imports, that Jurgen's company? ... if so, plenty of rave reviews of a good service offered. I put a deposit down on my car without ever seeing it, however it was only coming from down south.

I thought Jurgen was JM Imports - JCImports is a yorkshire based company that specialises in 4x4s but has a few nice Zeds (from the pics)
AlyWW
I'm going to try and persuade my local Nissan dealer to give me a test drive this weekend but think I'll def be buying an import, the savings are just too big for me to ignore. After thinking about it though, personally I'd rather pay a bit more to buy a car I've seen and can get there and then. I've got two weeks off after an op in Feb so hopefully I'll sort something out then. I'm driving a Passat at the minute (don't ask!) but have just discovered my insurance is only going to be £150 more and road tak the same! Just got to look at servicing costs now. nixy
I got mine without ever driving one - I wasn't disappointed. It was brought over by JM-Imports (Jurgen).
ir_fuel
I ordered my TT without having a testdrive. Just sat in it once in the showroom for 1 minute. Same story for the Z basically
Chris`I
Test drive at a dealer or even test drive a JDM off Autotrader if you can. Then use a reputable importer that someone on here has actually used and approves. From the top of my head Jurgen@JM Imports did a blinding job for nixy, I seem to remember a very excited young lady in a thread raving about the experience
AlyWW
JM have a blue 2002 import on their website - I've just emailed him about it.

JDM Lover
I'm not an expert on wheels (I just import the cars with good looks, spec and grade. Here a close-up. Would be grateful if anyone could identify them... Price - offers in region of 14.5k would secure. Perhaps this should be moved to the '350z's for sale' section...
