RobPhoboS
Hey guys, a good friend has an imported car over here, all of the paper work is done but the last part of registering it as a UK car (RHD, from Singapore). I just wondered if anyone has done this, and with whom as he is getting some crazy quotes.

Adrian@TORQEN
What car is it? Fiat Bravo Why does it matter anyway?
Ekona
Part curiosity, part maybe point him in the right direction of someone who specialises in that car if he's having issues.
Adrian@TORQEN
Lambo Murcielago SV
Ekona
Okay, so how far along in the process is he? I can't see any issues with registering something like that directly with the DVLA, it was a car that has full EU compliance so should be very straightforward. RobPhoboS
Which is why I think the prices are going all over the place
rabbitstew
I thought you normally just mot & insure the car using the vin number, then pop down dvla office with mot and car details and they issue a reg number?
RobPhoboS
I think it's this part: https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/mutual-recognition So it needs a physical inspection.
Adrian@TORQEN
Rob, maybe is worth speaking to Taras, he has so many cars imported
Ekona
I think it's this part: https://www.gov.uk/i...ual-recognition So it needs a physical inspection. That's only if it's LHD, you just need the CoC.

Ekona
It's a big thing, mind you don't choke on it All joking aside, it should just be a case of speaking to the local Lambo dealer (Pangbourne?) and asking them to sort the cert for him.
GrahameJ
How old is the car? If it is 10 years old or over then the process is simpler and only an MOT is needed, plus the export certificate.

It's less than 10 years, which is possibly why a bit of a pain. I've put him in touch with a friend that hopefully can help out, and will see how it pans out. GrahameJ
In that case it will need to have an IVA test rather than an MOT. Its not a pain mate, book in the car, take it there, get it tested, job done, so long as it passes I did quite a few back in the hay day of imports, except then it was an sva, but same process, you just need the coc, try here: http://www.dvlaadvic..._conformity.htm & https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-registrations Edited March 5, 2016 by Jetpilot
