Smc1992
Hi guys I attempted to fit my Tein bonnet struts today and tried to fit it into the bolt below. There is a user on here who has managed to connect their struts to this particular bolt, but when I tried I had to push the bonnet all the way up and I still couldn't get it to pop on. I would need to compress the strut to be able to fit it but I am unable to do this so i'm just after some advice. Is it worth getting rid of these struts and buying some others that fit better? Thanks Scott
GMballistic
Hello Scott, I'm pretty certain that's not how the Tein bonnet struts are supposed to fit. If I remember correctly they're supposed to mount more inwards, ...basically on top of the battery/brake fluid reservoir areas. Found a picture for you below. Link: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/18832-tein-bonnet-dampers-fitted/ Have also just found an image from a US 350Z owner showing his fitted in the bolt hole you've been trying to fit them in but it needs a mounting bracket from the looks of it which I guess you don't have. You could persevere with trying to fit the Teins which will no doubt need some modifications done to the car in order to fit especially on the brake fluid reservoir/battery cover surrounds where you'd need to modify the plastic cover surrounds for starters (I'm not sure whether there is a tapped hole ready for the Tein bolt either but I'd guess there probably is). If it was me I'd probably sell them on and just buy some more fit for purpose (less hassle) like the ones "Redline Styling" on here sell. I had the carbon fibre ones on my Zed and they were literally a doddle to fit. GMballistic
Lol. Just realised the picture I put up was the same one you linked to show which bolt you were trying to fit it too. So you should already know that you're trying to fit it in the wrong hole.
Smc1992
Lol. Just realised the picture I put up was the same one you linked to show which bolt you were trying to fit it too. So you should already know that you're trying to fit it in the wrong hole. Haha I know I was using the incorrect hole but using the one that is further in means some serious cutting to the plastic covers and when I finally get round to engine dressing I want them in one piece! I also feel like I shouldnt have to cut plastic covers to make it fit so I think I will probably sell these on. Thanks for the advice! ☺
GMballistic
Yep I agree with you that you really shouldn't have to start cutting into plastics etc. Just poorly designed by Tein imo. Try selling your Tein ones on eBay or something and then use some of the money towards a decent set from Steve@Redline Styling or Adrian@TORQEN.
