14N
Anyone got a spare 350Z key or can make a suggestion for an alternative. Mate has left key in jeans pocket and washed it in the washing machine. There is no spare. Car can still be locked and unlocked manually and can still be driven. My suggestion is to buy a used key fob and intrrnals, swap the blade over and get it reprogrammed (somehow). There are a few Micra keys on eBay such as this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/172048588201 Looks exactly the same as my Z key, do you think it'll be a safe or stupid assumption that the intrrnals would be the same? Is this possible? Any other options?
Apex
It's a reasonable assumption that both keys would have the same internals, it would keep manufacturing costs down. Maybe ring a Nissan dealer and get a price and part number for a 350Z key, then ring another and get a price and part number for a Micra key? Or maybe try an onsite service like this http://carkeypeople.co.uk/services/car-key-cutting/ At the very least it's worth a few phone calls to get some idea of price. Apex
Just done a bit of research and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/Nissan-Micra-Note-Primera-X-Trail-2-Button-Remote-Alarm-Key-Fob-Tested/151948038032?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&_trksid=p5197.c100068.m2280&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140211130857%26meid%3D84bee2342d7f4a3b88860a423c897936%26pid%3D100068%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D172048588201%26clkid%3D2694843464881234621&_qi=RTM2063744 has the same Siemens VDO part number and operating frequency as my Z'd keys. You'd just need to swap the blade and get some one to program it to the cars ECU

Got a £10 Micra key and followed the UK reprogram instructions found on here (from GIXXER) and it worked spot on! 14N
That's handy for future reference. I know mate. Fortunately I've got a spare, but if I hadn't, I'd be buying one and getting a new blade cut.

MikeyM
I'm wondering if I could get a key place to cut me a blade initially?

Andy_Muxlow
I'm wondering if I could get a key place to cut me a blade initially? I got a new flip key the other week from eBay and when I tried to get it cut I wasn't successful. Timpsons said no and so did some others, so I will have to try the local market when I get a chance. MikeyM
If I want a spare key for the zed.. do I need to buy it from Nissan dealer with internals so it's coded or can you buy a key of eBay and have the blade cut then internals coded ? samsniss350z
You can code your fob as per Gixxers post (link above) and as already mentioned Micra keys have the same internals and go your local independant cobbler and get it cut. 14N
The main topic and outcome of this thread seems to have been missed by most. Buy a used Micra key from eBay for about a tenner, ensuring it includes ALL internals (including the important black transponder chip), get a new blade cut from a local shoe repair/key cutting specialist, swap the blades over then follow the re-coding procedure linked to above. If you're struggling to remove the blade, maybe take the Micra key along with you when you get the blade cut and ask them to swap it over. Timpsons are pants, buggered one of mine but the local shoe repair shop got it right first time.í ½í± I've got a rather large watch. I recently tried four high street jewelers when I needed a new battery. Each one I visted was slightly more 'classier' than the one before (read 'classier' as 'cost of stock') and not one of them could fit the watch into their 'watch battery changing equipment' and each said it would be needed to be sent away to their specialists, with costs increasing from £20 upto £50! For a new battery!! Popped to the local shoe repairer and he just laughed. 3 minutes and £9.95 later, I had a ticking time piece again Moral of this story - don't buy a stupidly big watch
