Kev946
I've finally worked out how to convert a DVD and upload it. This snippet was shot by a guy in a very very fast stripped out and moodified Escort RS Turbo from on board his car at Donington Park RS National Day in August 2004. I spoke to him later and asked if I could have a copy. This is the best video I have of the car, as most other stuff is from the pit lane. This was the first track day for the Cossie after the full re-build including engine, so I wasn't pushing it too much. I appear at 2 min 12 secs, (white Cossie). Check out the flames. Before you ask, I was on a cooling lap towards the end of the video as oil temps were getting rediculously high etc. heck out near the end were he nearly looses it at McLeans. I love the little giggle from his passenger.... Link http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 6785238159
GIXXERUK
very kev the flames were is the smoke - oil getting over temp misting thinning and getting past the valves and rings and buning off ? as you pass the escort it sounds
Kev946
very kev the flames were is the smoke - oil getting over temp misting thinning and getting past the valves and rings and buning off ? as you pass the escort it sounds Most Cossies with this kind of boost level smoke a bit, but I was a little too high on the oil level and some was blowing back through the breather system which made things worse. I've learned to run the car towards the bottom of the dip stick now. Also, this was towards the end of the day too so oil was getting a bit hot and thin... sinbad
pc is damn slow today, im upto 1:32... Ive never driven donnington before but am i right in thinking the escort isnt taking the best lines? Im not saying there wrong especially with the traffic but could they be better?

What setup have you got Kev, wouldnt running low on oil be a problem during hard cornering? My Teg smokes abit now too, since its been slightly tuned anyway. Been told its overfuelling and meant to do that .

He's quite an experienced guy and was being a polite driver due to the amount of traffic. Check out near the end were he nearly looses it at McLeans. I love the little giggle from his passenger.... I've got a big winged high capcity baffled sump, so oil starvation is not an issue. It runs about 6 litres of oil with the oil cooler helping. Standard Cossie engines are 3.5 litres. Oh and yes it over fuels massively so some of the smoke is fuel. I only get around 4 mpg on track...

sinbad
Damn thats mad!! Just finished watching it +1 sounds awesome when you pass and the flames last for ages lol Your car looks mighty quick too, but i always thought the cossies were rare now adays, doesnt seem so on that vid I remember when my bro used to have the 4x4 version, and the previous owner put some custom made "cut" springs on it. We went over a rail crossing at aroun 60mph and ended up on two wheels He promptly swapped the springs!! @16years old i used to love that car, he even let me take it out a few times. Theres a white cossie near me with gold wheels, saying how old they are they still look the business! You need an in-car vid now...

It was at the RS National Day so only Ford RS cars were allowed on track. Also has the advatage of being an unsilenced day. They moved it to Rockingham this year so I didn't bother. I went each year up until then. Quickest car on that day was the white Escosrt Cossie right at the beginning. This is an Ex Carlos Sainz WRC Escort Rally car but with a 500 bhp engine and at the helm a very experience driver Steve Scott from A1 Rally Sport. sinbad
Just pulling your leg mate with the rarity thing! Guessing Rockingham is pretty boring in comparison. Ive been to a few RS owners gathering before, was a few years back now though. Im pretty sure ive heard of Steve Scott when i watch the rallying on Eurosport. Does well too if i remember right. Steve Scott builds Cossie based Fiesta's and Focus's. He's currently racing a Fiesta Cossie 4x4 in the Ford Saloon Car Championship and is sponsored by Performance Ford, and yes he does well. He took his Fiesta to Trax at Silverstone a few years back and did a 0-60 sprint in 2.9 seconds...

I wasn't there but heard all about it. Most of Steve's cars are white to start with as he buys the shells direct from Ford and they are usually white. Kev946
Kev - You've probably seen it a trillion times, but just for you: That's Lee Mannings (Porkie).. If you look at the video he passess the Escort follwing Steve Scotts Wite WRC Escort right at the beginning. He's running about 650 bhp last I heard. Kev946
BTW Reyland is Martin Hadlands garage and he specialises on Cossie tuning. is is rumored to be running around 800 bhp+. He did the Gumball in2004 with Lee Manning as passenger and rolled his Escost Cossie in North Africa at over 150+ mph. Lee was thrown from the car and spent months in hospital.. This is a new shell now and re-build now with even more power. http://www.reyland.co.uk/projects/ReylandEsCos/ Martin has the caravan towing top speed record and is 4th fastest in the How Fast Lap round Bedford Autodrome. See http://www.howfast.com/top25.asp http://www.gumball3000blog.com/index.ph ... d&sbutt=Go Pictures from the Gumball 2004...before and after...
