Jack Carter Posted January 7, 2016 Share Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Hi, I've had my 370z auto for nearly two years now and it has been flawless and trouble free throughout. Fully serviced at Nissan main dealer. This evening, I took her out for a run - about 10 miles. I didn't push it at all until the oil temp was up and even then I didn't floor it. When I arrived back home, parked on the drive and still running, I could hear a bit of a knocking noise which appeared to be coming from the engine. I've never heard his before. I reversed off the drive and drove around the block, back onto the drive, and couldn't hear it. So, I drove the car into the garage, put it in "park" and I heard it again. A slight blip on the throttle and I couldn't hear it again. Any ideas ? Has anyone else had this. It is concerning to say the least. It has only done 25000 miles. Cheers. It is due its next service at Westway Wolverhampton in March but I think I need to get it looked at before then. Cant do it tonight as the Mrs would lock me out if I start faffing about at this time of night It's a strange issue. It sounds beautiful when being driven. Jack Carter Posted January 8, 2016 Author Share Posted January 8, 2016 Video compiling as I type this. I think I may have sussed the issue. I think it is the exhaust. The video I'm posting shows Idling from a cold start, Idling when warm, Switching on Air Con, Gentle revving and idle - all of which sound perfect with no noise issues. The final part of the clip is after a short run in the car. The noise can then be heard clearly. While I was looking I dropped my keys on the floor. When I bent down to pick them up I could hear the noise more clearly from under the car so I got underneath and it was much louder there, which leads me to think it is the exhaust. Any thoughts ? Richf Posted January 8, 2016 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Its too early to panic mate I would suggest getting the oil pressure checked when hot first , a decent place should charge no more than 1 hours labour , once you have that data you can work out your next step As I said earlier its really hard to diagnose a fault like this online but bearing in mind the oil gallery gasket issue it could well be increased valve train noise due to reduced oil pressure at idle , but its just a thought The 350HR guys might be able to give you an idea of what they paid as a ballpark 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What is the consensus... Min dealer or Indy to have the Gallery gaskets checked while in for a service. I've had no loss in power / limp mode and the oil temp reaches the same level as its always done (though I appreciate that this is not the same as oil pressure.) Thanks for the help everyone.
