Zeezeebaba Posted December 10, 2015 Share Posted December 10, 2015 The list of issues I've had recently have been annoying. 1)CEL light cause rear O2 sensor, both replaced. 2)Central locking not functioning correctly, new fob battery. 3) CEL light front sensor fail to heat, both replaced OEM. 4) Sidelight bulb gone and then mysteriously works again after two weeks. Aside from the sidelight issue which was a faulty connection all other CEL issues have returned and all rear their ugly heads when the electrical system is loaded eg when it's cold and I have multiple things on. I'm now thinking it's the battery as this morning my fob mucked about again only unlocking one side. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I encountered problems at the start of the cooler weather so took my battery for a health check (cost nothing) and found that my battery was pretty much fit for the bin. I ended up getting a Varta with 4 year guarantee and have not had a problem since. AS mentioned recently the battery goes through a really good workout what with lights, heater, rear screen heater, seats, etc, etc. This will just about finish it off unless you have dodgy earth or some other drain. Looking at the history the battery I removed was only the second one fitted in over 11 years so needed a change anyway. What with all new OEM O2 sensors and various other bits it should be ok now. Tricky-Ricky Posted December 13, 2015 Share Posted December 13, 2015 I would remove and clean all earth connections you can find, corrosion can cause havoc with the CAN bus error system, the other thing to check is the IPDM in the engine bay and the BCM in the passenger side kick panel, any leaks and water ingress in these areas can cause a host of problems with these units. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Zeezeebaba Posted December 13, 2015 Author Share Posted December 13, 2015 Yeah tricky I installed some LED side lights this morning and gave all the nooks and crannies a good going over. My worry was as you said with regards water creeping in and disrupting connections. The sidelight issue was down to water ingress from a missing arch clip letting water run over the top of the liner. Dicky Posted December 13, 2015 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Can't believe the battery is at fault here. When the engine is started the battery doesn't do anything, it only receives charge. All the voltage and current are supplied by the alternator. Check to see if you voltmeter is running at around 13v with engine running. Or turn on the headlights, heater etc then see if Reg headlights go brighter when you rev up. If so the alternator is ok, if not its on the blink.
