alistair1982
Hi All, Ended up being stuck in some flooding today in Kendal, unfortunately it was too deep for the Z and it gave out in the middle of the flood, I have managed to push it to higher ground and leave it for now. The internal electrics seem ok, radio etc all works central looking etc. However the engine cut out, I dont want to do further damage, and I hope it will be ok, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Not sure whether to get the garage to tow it on monday and have a look or see what you guys think I should do. Alistair
Ricey
Garage for definite. Honestly you'll be lucky if it's not snafu with it cutting out. Chances are it's hydrolocked Don't try and start it whatever you do Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Ekona
I don't get people who drive through deep puddles, I really don't. If it's too deep for your shoes, it's too deep for a regular car. If you think it might be too deep, then it definitely is! Always better off turning the engine off and abandoning it than attempting to drive through. Even better, simply reverse and go a different way. Anyways, lecture over. Ricey is right, could well be megaknackered, but only a garage will be able to tell. Do not try and turn it over under any circumstances, 100% recovery truck time.
alistair1982
Yeah thats what I feared, it was hard to tell as the water didnt seem too deep but i fear it may be bugger*d
alistair1982
To be honest I had turned back from one flood, and ended up stuck in another the river has burst its banks, I was trying to get the car to a safer place. Just a bit of a crap one to be honest.
Ricey
If you were under very low load or idle when it crapped out you might get away with the garage clearing the cylinders and a few other remedial bits. Otherwise it's bent conrods and all other manner of hell Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
alistair1982
ace... thanks guys, although the lecture was less appreciated... if you had seen what the floods are doing to peoples house here you may realise why i felt i had to move my car
Ekona
I've seen the vids, it looks horrendous. Even more of a reason to stay indoors and to hell with things when it's that bad.
Exec
Hope all goes well with the garage Alastair, keep us updated. Storm Desmond seems to be wreaking havoc! neighbors shed roof blew off and landed on the roof of my fathers car. Kendal isn't far from me up North, I used to drive a van through there daily and I know how bad it can get. Jay Kay
How deep are we talking and what speed were you doing when it died? Intakes are surely far too high for these horror stories? Could just have a splash of water on something electrical which may dry out???
alistair1982
water was about a foot deep probably deeper in places I was trying to get out of it so travelling up hill. I was travelling slowly, 5 or 6mph Whole thing as a bit of a nightmare really. Kendal is totally underwater.
JetSet
Did any water get into the footwells? Pete
alistair1982
no the water was below the sills, it was about a foot deep when I had to get out.
Sargara
If it was below the sills then i don't see how water would have got into the intake to be ingested? Unless you are using some aftermarket pop-charger style intake i think you may have been lucky
alistair1982
fingers crossed ... going to get it towed to the garage tomorrow and let them strip the top down and look at it
Ebized
Surely a dipstick check or would indicate if there was water in the engine or drain the oil to see what comes out? Seems a whole lot cheaper than stripping the "top down"?
alistair1982
the garage I use are pretty good so I am just going to leave it to them to see what they need to do. Fingers cross its not damaged. Least our house hasn't flooded like a lot of peoples here.... it could be a lot worse
HoundDog
Seen some of the pictures on the news how bad the weather has been up there. I feel for you and hope it's not to badly damage fingers crossed for you.
ZMANALEX
If hydrolocked, just pull the plugs and spin her over to remove the water, and keep your fingers crossed. Can't see it being hydrolocked if running stock air filter.

JetSet
going to get it towed to the garage tomorrow Well, I reckon the breakdown trucks are going to be kinda busy up there for a while . You may well be lucky but sadly it seems that hundreds of cars were overwhelmed while parked up outside houses, some were barely visible so deep was the water. Exec
Jetset is right, I hope you find a free towtruck! I'm in a badly hit area. Luckily my house is fine and out of the way although some cars are almost totally submerged. There are helicopters outside right now flying back and forth. Got elec back on this morning luckily. alistair1982
They have shut all the bridges now over safety fears, so can't actually get to it never mind a tow truck could be tomorrow before we see whats happening, plus I think the garages will be kinda busy! alistair1982
Just an update... Spoke to the garage who suggested I try the insurance company and they have accepted the claim as I was trying to move the car to safety. So just waiting for the tow truck to come tomorrow, then they can assess the damage. At least I am not going to foot the bill, which is a relief although I think it will be a write off if the engine is knackered
