Nissan UK will not take any action on your behalf.

Your contract is with the garage that sold you the car and also with the garage that tried to fix it.

If they are the same garage so much the better.

Save your energy as you will only get more frustrated than you are at the moment.

Get an informed diagnoses from elsewhere so that you know what you are up against

The waiting game that you are playing is only depriving you of the use of your car which will probably just be parked up in the garage car lot somewhere.

Good luck.

Alex. :)

You wont get any joy from the garage you bought it from , its a 10 year old car and you bought it a while back it should be expected that things will go wrong

However Nissan are hopeless , you need to take it to a specialist for a second opinion, better to cut your losses

The problem was that the clutch pedal wasn't working properly. They had the car, they diagnosed it, they told you want was needed to fix it. Since that hasn't fixed the problem, you need to be setting a deadline here. 7 days is more than enough time for them to sort the car, so write a letter to that effect stating if the car is not ready in time then you'll take it elsewhere and bill them via SCC.

It's no different to asking a plumber to fix a dripping tap, he comes round and replaces the bath but leaves the tap untouched and charges you. The problem hasn't been fixed, and it should be.

Hang about, the reason he chose the garage he did was because it had a large "Nissan" sign on it and boasts of the quality of the training of their technicians then Id certainly make them aware - this isnt just bad service, this is a misdiagnosis that has cost a Nissan customer time and money.

I dont doubt that you wont receive payment direct from Nissan UK, but when one of their own franchisees repeatedly misdiagnosis a car and then gets very awkward I think a complaint to head office is definitely worth a punt, you may find they suddenly become a lot easier to deal with.

I really would like to believe that would be the case, but you just know that all Nissan Customer Services would do is punt that back to the dealer and wash their hands of any responsibility. Sorry.

Totally agree Colin.

As most of us know, Nissan will just direct the customer back to the dealer.

Sad but true.

As I work 12 hours a day I dont have a second to myself. We heard nothing back today so my fiancee caught late this afternoon and they are replacing the Master Cyclinder. Apparently the master tech has been in contact with Nissan technical services all day to try and get it resolved. When my fiancee asked if that is definently the problem they said....and quote..."well we hope so as we have tried everything else haha". Fair enough they are not charging me for changing the master cyclinder but it does make me wonder why they charged me for a new clutch (with them thinking that was the issue). My fiancee was told the car may be back tomorrow or Wednesday. I guarantee you that the car will be running on fumes needing a serious petrol refill.

I think I will lodge my complaint with the dealership. They "should" be the most experienced and be able to diagnosis and sort out a problem without any time wasting and thats why they charge more. This hasnt been the case. They have left me without a car, without a chunk of money, without a clue and without confidence in their work. They could of handled this much better but they seemed quite happy to take my £3200 promptly.

Pointless swopping out the master without doing the slave. :surrender:

£3200.00 and the fault still not fixed. :scare:

Might sound a bit harsh, but as the saying goes: "A fool and his money are soon parted.

You really do sound like a salesman dream.

Hopefully you will have learnt your lesson and realise that the Nissan techs and service personal (at this particular dealership) are a bunch of incompetent morons.

Crack on and lodge your complaint, however unfortunately, you will be pissing against the wind.

Hey Guys,

I am new to this forum. I upgraded myself from a MG TF (yeah I know) to a 350Z convertible 2005 (66k miles) car earlier this year. Its always been my dream car and I got it :)

About a few months ago when out driving I started to notice that my clutch pedal was popping back out promptly after pushing down on it. It started getting worse where it would just sit at the resting point and I woud have to pop it back out with my foot. I took it to my trusty local mechanic who said he lubricated the clutch to see if that would work. After driving it for about 20 minutes in traffic it did it again. He said that I would be best to take it to the nearest Nissan Dealership and have their mechanics look at it because he doesnt have the computers to reset the electrics etc if he has to dig deaper as he said there was some oil leaking as well and he assumed it was the rocket cover. He also said he thinks the slave cylinder is probably the fault.....fair enough as is a good honest mechanic.

I took it to my local Glasgow Nissan dealership. I left it with them a few days and they call me back. I told them what my mechanic advised regarding the rocket cover and the slave cylinder. I left it with them a few days. They came back to me saying that I needed about £2500 of repairs. The head mechanic also wanted to strip out the gearbox etc and check the clutch which would cost additional labour costs. I said okay as long as we get this stick clutch pedal sorted. So they billed me for the following......

New rocket Cover £60

Supplied and fitted tie rod end (socket kit-tie and assy-socket 99) £259

Supplied and fitted o/s/f lower arm bush £90

Supplied and fitted n/s/f lower arm bush £90

Rod Compl-Tensi £256 X 2

4 Bridgestone Tyres £780

Supplied and fitted rocker cover gaskets £220

Now the head mechanic said that the clutch was the issue and it needed replaced. So I said lets do it as long as it would sort the problem.

New Clutch kit £761

So all in including labour it costed £3200.

I dont really know much about 350z's but I really could do with your advise before this dealership start charging me more on a "lets change this and that and see if it fixes it" basis. I dont have that sort of money to pay out again.

Please help, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Alex's last post may seem harsh but he does not speak with forked tongue, and I really think you need to reflect.

I have quoted the main bits of your first post ^^^^^ to remind us, where you set out the background and have signed up on here looking for advice. Your "trusty local mechanic" pointed to the likely issue but declined the work as "he doesnt have the computers to reset the electrics etc". Fair enough, but his only mistake was to suggest you take it to the nearest Nissan dealership, but when you did point out the potential problem to them, they chose to ignore it and still have.

We still aren't clear why Glasgow Nissan carried out all the unrelated work - did you say something along the lines - "and oh while you are about it could you fix anything else you see wrong", or did they unilaterally carry out all the other stuff without at least calling you to authorise the work?

There is a wealth of experience on here - over 12 years worth with 350 zeds - and your clutch pedal issue is a well known one that has become more and more common as the cars get older. But as Nissan stopped making the 350's back in 2009, so the dealer knowledge has declined as they see fewer and fewer 350's in their premises to fix faults, partly due to the charges they make and partly due to....... yes, the lack of specialised knowledge. That said, there are few dealers around who have built up good reputations and continue to provide excellent service but most 350 owners on here will use specialists when needed, because they have built up good reputations and know the cars inside out. It is a pity you did not ask about those that are local to you on here first.

From your latest post it seems to us Glasgow Nissan are still flying a finger in the air, aided and abetted by Nissan Customer Services who we know are really not interested in non current models. Whilst GN are not charging for the latest work, it is looking pretty clear that will not resolve the problem given what Alex has advised - he being someone that Nissan themselves have sought help from when they have got stuck with 350z issues in the past! We are very fortunate to have his knowledge and experience on here and his offer above to look at your car was a real opportunity missed.......

I am only saying all this as we really hate to see new owners being taken for a ride by garages who really don't know what they are doing. And if you did not authorise all that unrelated work you should at least be negotiating a refund, or seek legal advice.

It took a Master tech all day to establish what was wrong with some help from Nissan!!!? Master Tech my eye. Usual Stealership bollox imo.

I think ownership of a 350z and having Alex up the road is probably the most ideal situation for any zed owner - I am astonished quite frankly that you didn't take up that offer to have a single person so hugely experienced with more knowledge of these cars than the sum total of the dealership staff ever, in total, over all the years they existed.

As above, do not sit back and hope that a company that has its own interests at heart rather than yours (both Nissan and the dealership) are suddenly going to sort this out and pay you a wad of money back - its up to you to take action and take control of the situation again.

Oh dear, poor guy.

Lesson learnt the hard way here I'm afraid.

One thing I never understand is why people come on here looking for advise then ignore any advice given and continue to make their situation worse. People here have learnt from the same mistakes and have the knowledge to help, listen to them!!

dont get how they did SOOOO much other work/repairs without authority? not like it failed an MOT.................. all four tyres? why didnt your other mechanic advise you of this? as tyres are a quick 10 second check for ANY repairer in the land.

To be fair clutches are fitted to quite a few other makes of car too. Diagnosis of a clutch fault by any professional mechanic is not hard.

I suspect things have got a bit lost in translation here. Clutch replacement isn't necessarily a bad idea on an older car if you are taking it apart anyway to get to the slave, and especially if yu are keen to flog a few parts and labour options to the punter, but to then not have it fixed after all that work is plain crap workmanship.

Hi Guys,

First off, I came on here as I wasnt sure who to turn to for assistance. Believe me if I knew about Alex I would have went to him first. The issues raised with the car at Nissan I did authorise. Its basically a case of saying "yeah get it all done and thats it all sorted" but the main issue was the clutch pedal which needed fixed.

Now I am sorry but I am not a mug. My trusted mechanic who was always very honest gave me the advice to check it with Nissan before he passed away. To be quite honest, having paid the £3200 for all the work with the clutch issue being fixed then I would have been happy enough. The issue is that they never fixed it. They told me the clutch needs replaced and thats what caused the problem. So paying for that should of resolved it and it didnt. I have then been flogged around with them telling me they have now done X, Y and Z....still the problem hasnt been fixed but yeah being quite cheeky to me about it. Then they finally hand me the car back in a dangerous state that they drove back to my house.

The car is now back and sitting in my driveway. They called and left a message on my mobile (having been instructed to speak to my fiancee as I can never answer my phone at work). The car is basically bogging. Completely dirty, greasy hand prints on the inside and outside. They also placed the car keys inside my letter box but did not push it through so it would fall below. They did this the first time and they did it again. If anyone was watching they could of lifted the letter box and simply take the keys.

I pressed down on the clutch pedal and it pops back out again (it does make a weird "kajoonk" noise when I press it down....that normal?).

I will take it out a proper drive at the weekend.

I think my issue is going to be directed straight at the dealership. I have no beef with Nissan themselves but if the dealership charge the prices they do and claim to be the experts with Nissan cars then they have that responsibility to fix the problem that they charged me for fixing. I think the keys in the letter box and the car being filthy is a slap in the face. Nissan do a complementary clean of your car when you get work done with them. First time I got it, it was clean, now it looks like its been raced on a dirt track.

I will definently use Alex from now on but I will be pursuing the dealership head office for some sort of explanation to all of this. Cheers for the advice guys.

Hope that's the end of your clutch woes and good luck going after the dealer. If it turns out to be spot on now, if I were you I'd want to know everything they've done since you dropped it off.

On the plus side, at least you've more or less got an entirely new drivetrain.

Nobody's calling you a mug fella, in hindsight researching the prices they gave you first would have been a good idea :)

I paid £700 for an exedy clutch, lightweight flywheel/ fitment when I first bought the Z and about £500 for goodyear tyres, I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound, just giving you some perspective.

It's common knowledge on here not to take your car to Nissan, I've seen so many post's similar to this one, it's always a shame to see new owners getting ripped off. It's understandable why you would take you're car there but but unfortunately the main dealers are clueless money grabbers and you've learnt that now.

£3,200 is a disgusting amount of money to be charged for the work you've had done, especially given that the problem is not fixed. It's a disgrace that they can get away with this sort of thing, while it may be pointless I'd certainly not go quietly in your shoes.

Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon without too much headache so you can start enjoying the car! Good luck.

Shame you didn't know of the courtesy car, otherwise you could have held it back until this fiasco was sorted out. Many years ago BMW diagnosed a part to be faulty and replaced it. The following day the problem arose again, thus the wrong part had been diagnosed . I took it back the next day and told them to put the old part back in, was then informed that they had thrown it out so couldn't replace it. I asked for a refund on the part wrongly diagnosed and they flatly refused. I informed them it would cost them more than the part in the end. When the sales manager phoned at the end of the three year term for the three company BMW's, which were always serviced on the nail too, quoted the previous situation and he was lost for words. However the outcome was the three cars were all replaced with another dealer which in fact offered a better service all around in the end, and never again were we faced with this dilemma. So I am not sure how you would stand buddy should you request a refund on all the unnecessary parts fitted. The best of luck and should you get no luck in the end, move on elsewhere and don't look back. :)
