SherlockH
So I've got the stuff together to do a few minor mods, I know pretty much the direction I want to take the car in (i think) even though I don't really want to modify it being a GT4. So there's a few things I've done which I haven't taken pics of ... Yet, but at the moment the cars in bits and I still need quite a few things before it's even near an acceptable level At the moment I'm in the middle of fitting a reversing camera and fitting my carbon fibre plenum, I don't get paid much (being in the forces) so things are quite slow for big parts. So far though parts purchased: Tarmac Sports Bolt Kit (Fitted) Carbon fibre plenum (Fitted) Carbon fibre engine cover (fitted) Android Head Unit (thanks buster For helping me out) Stubby aerial (fitted) HKS Oil filter (fitted) Greddy Sump Plug (fitted) Mishimoto fan Shroud (fitted) Cobra Y pipe Tomei Ti Expreme exhaust This is how the Android HU started out: So many cables This is the head unit that's going in Had a crack at the loom <got stuck so went to buster, he said I'd done better then everyone else just had to wire in 2 cables> damnit Anyways he worked his magic for the steering wheel controls and done the buster mod So the plenum: Ergh Throttle body off ready to go to mopedmark in the morning along with my bonnet catch Worried when I seen these two pipe and the CF plenum doesn't have them Not to worry though I can do a throttle body coolant bypass Here's it being test fitted So problems I think I'm going to run into now: - OEM strut brace won't fit anymore (suggestions?) Rich260
So problems I think I'm going to run into now: - CF engine cover won't fit Sell it and get a Rare JDM harness cover. Surly you don't want to cover up that CF plenum?! - OEM strut brace won't fit Spacers/ longer bolts as per fitting a plenum spacer - 6 bolts will be missing from middle Don't think this is an issue. The base of the plenum needs sanding down which I'll do tomorrow, anyone got any suggestions on a slightly thicker gasket as if like more of a compression seal, original gasket is so thin? Locktite 510 Gasket Eliminator?

buster
your gonna need to put spacers under the strut bar mounts to clear the plenum m8 or change it for an aftermarket one
SherlockH
Bit of an update as I've managed to do a few bits and bobs even though the weather is !!!! And I'm now soaked Here's what the head unit looks like installed really pleased with it but think I'll order a new fascia see if I can get it to sit flush (bit of a nightmare) Not bad for a Chinese eBay job head unit really pleased with its endless functions Here's the carbon fibre engine cover with the plenum not so sure about it, plus the top left bolt hole won't line up What's your opinions ? The carbon fibres between the two seem to have a slight different colour to them Then decided to get rid of the fried egg, only took 10 minutes really easy mod to do Now going to make a start on polishing the old plenum heard this take a long time so it's something I can do when the weathers bad and I can't work on the zed Started putting the bolt kit in so here's how today ended up looking Anyone know how you get the studs out that the engine cover/plenum sit on ? Is it just s case of two nuts and undo it ? Edited November 14, 2015 by SherlockH
SherlockH
So finally after a never end battle with the plenum I got it to seal, there was so many problems with it, like poor finishing, took loads of sanding to get nice a flat and smooth there were chips all over it, the person who made it must have got a lot of air in the mixture as I started to find air pockets. The vacuum lines weren't properly drilled But all has been rectified after probably 20/30hours of work, it's all came together and is a work of art
scobie140
When i fitted my Kinetix plenum I cut a new cork gasket for it, Opted for this over NAF as its softer and the torque settings for the plenum isn't very high. A little smear of Hylomar just for extra peace of mind and its sealed perfect.

Has
Like what you've done so far! Got an old kenwood double din headunit in mine but the maps are out of date without a way to update them past 2014. I was actually looking at this double din headunit on ebay. Got a link to the fascia? Also do you think as I already have a double din in mine from the previous owner it'll just plug straight into this new android headunit? Not sure if the wires will match up but at a guess I'd say it should all wire up fine, the fascia requires quite a bit of chopping mine still isn't right The fascia is on incartech website

GMballistic
Loving them indicators!! Think this is a must!! Where did you get them pal? I just got them off ebay pal just search for silvertech bulbs cost between £5-£10 Same ones I bought for my Zed when I had it. SherlockH
So I decided to order some Spec-D / Junyan Headlights for the Zed as one of mine headlights stopped working due to the ballast dieing and the other had overspray on. In another post I mentioned about getting some XKglow headlight bulbs and seeing if they would work, but I'm just going to do something similar the hodaka. So here's the headlights packaged And the instructions (not that they're any use) And finally here they are: Problem is they come with a 6 PIN connector but luckily there is a pair of 350z 8PIN headlight harnesses on eBay think the seller is P15ULT (just waiting on them arriving) I think these headlights are pretty well built in my opinion, only gripe is that the wiring is a bit of a mess so looking forward to rewiring them and putting some heatshrink on the clear up the mess, bonus is they have a recess and mounting points for a matsushita (350Z) Ballast on the bottom, so rather then order Morimoto ballasts and bulbs I've ordered some Gen V Matsushita ballasts to fit in the original mounting area. Will need to pot these to make sure they're 100% waterproof. So I got to work de-pinning the connector ready for the new one. Voila Started disconnecting the cables Blue Cable is the Low Beam +be Red is the High Beam +ve Black is the Xenon -ve In the middle is the LEDs White cable is for the sidelights +ve Black is the common -ve Bottom is the Indicator with Halos Spliced in Yellow cable is for the Indicator +ve Finally all Stripped clear of wires apart from the Halos which I'll remove once I open the headlights. SherlockH
So here as a few of the bits and bobs ordered off eBay Also ordered some Mini D2S Projectors which are 2.5" same size as the original, i would have kept the original Projectors that came with the headlight only they were mini H1 and I wanted to use the OEM ballasts are I can interchange them with my OEM headlights should these not be MOT Legal So moving on it's time to open up the headlights, which I was dreading as I didn't know weather to bake them in the oven or use a heat gun, they barely fitted in my oven and I was worried the metal in the oven would melt the plastics so I went with the heat gun option so I didn't ruin them. This is the same route hodaka took so thought I'd follow suit. Finally got them open, thought it would be a 15/30 minute job, oo what a shock I got. Took me an hour and a half to get one to fully separate, so I've got a friend to help me do the other one tomorrow. The 2 Halos are different sizes one is 90mm OD and the other is 80mm OD. Another hurdle I've ran into is the mini D2S Projectors I ordered won't be in stock for another 2/3weeks so looking at somewhere else to get them from while I order a new set of Halos. Will probably go with the Morimoto XBT Halos as I can control them via Bluetooth on my head unit same as the XKglow Demon Eyes.
