RobPhoboS
I use ATE TYP200, you get a litre in the tin and it's very good value, and nearly the same spec as Motul RBF600 (which is meant to be changed every 6 months, very expensive imho). brillomaster
We've always used ATE Super Blue racing fluid on track - really cheap and haven't had any problems with it after numerous trackdays. EDIT just noticed I think Super Blue and TYP200 are the same stuff, except TYP200 isn't bright blue in colour.
Richf
Super Blue is great value for money, if you go on track then any fluid should be changed at least every 6 months , if not after each trackday imo
Spatt
thanks guys, mines probably overdue i think 12 months since last change. Disks and pads are being done in the next month or two so assume would be an ideal opportunity. off topic but brake fluid every 6 months common for performance cars? only reason i ask is a friend has a merc C 63 amg and he says brake not the same after 12 months... could be something else tho. thanks again
Richf
3 years from new and then every 2 years normally but if you go on track then you should increase the level of maintenance imo
RobPhoboS
6 months is for what I mentioned, Motul RBF600 (or after each track day). The stuff I use, TYP200 (which WAS superblue) can be done every couple of years iirc (or after every track day, advisable imho).
brillomaster
changing the brake fluid after every trackday?!? that's a bit keen! they only reason you change it is because it absorbs water which lowers the boiling point, and its not going to absorb that much water in a day. if you do actually manage to boil the fluid then maybe get it changed, but in 3 years of trackdays we've never boiled ATE superblue fluid. Watshot
Just had a quick Google, as the idea of a colour change to help identify when the new fluid reaches the caliper being bled sounds useful, and it would appear that the ATE typ200 which has replaced the Superblue is now amber in colour to satisfy the type approval or whatever. So do you guys who say you are using it have old stock of the Blue, or do you buy it somewhere else?
brillomaster
I managed to source some super blue from carparts4less, but the mechanic who bled the system did comment on its colour. Apparently brake fluid has to be amber colour. but you should be able to get type 200 easily enough.
Commander
Changing brake fluid every track day or every 6 months is a bonkers waste of time and money! As Brillo said, just change it when it needs changing.
Watshot
Shame, seemed like a good idea but I've missed the boat. Always seem to end up running far too much new fluid through, just to be sure. Would have been nice to have an easy way of seeing it. Obviously if it's old and dirty you get a better idea, but I never let it get that bad. Every two years.
