Mod friendly multi car policy

Recommended Posts

It's that time of year again and my current insurer (Admiral) have hiked up the price for renewal.

I'm on the look out for any recommendations for multi car insurance that is mod friendly so I can compare quotes and get the price back down.

If it helps I am trying to insure the zed with just aftermarket exhaust and my shed saxo with a few mods (exhaust, induction, lowered, alloys, larger brakes)

Obviously I will be ringing around the usual 'specialist' suspects but they can never seem to give a decent quote. Maybe because I'm 24?

So, any recommendations guys?

I'd try getting quotes from other companies and then call admiral and they will drop their price

That's what I plan to do but struggling to find anyone that will insure both cars. Will give the guys on here a call later but not hopeful it will be cheaper from past experience

we've recently switched out insurance from admiral multicar to Esure multicar, after 6 years I think. Esure quite a bit cheaper and were fine with the modifications I've made to my beemer.

Alternatively, sell the barryboy saxo and buy a proper shed, like a Volvo estate diesel!

I'm pretty sure Admiral will drop their price as soon as you call them. Do that then use that price against other companies.

Im with Admiral and they certainly do. This year, as always, they doubled my premium. Quick call up after a 30 second check on confused to give me a base line price, and they happily dropped. Some years I dont even bother checking on confused, i just ring up tell them I can get it for 50% less than they are quoting and they always drop the price straight down. So, if the OP cant get a price to compare against, just make one up! Last years premium is usually a good starting price.

Also consider what you deem to be "mod friendly". In my opinion Admiral aren't...

Sure, they'll list the mods on your policy if you ask them too, they'll charge you an inflated premium for having them, they'll even tell you that they'll cover them. What they won't tell you directly (although it is in their small print) is that, in the event of a claim, they will only ever pay out a maximum of £500. For all of those mods. Combined.

They said to me, in the event of a claim any modded parts would only be replaced with OEM ones!

Edit: Just out of interest which insurance companies do people recommend for multiple cars with mods, and penalty points on DL? I'm guessing Admiral won't be a good choice.

Thanks for the advice all. It's all sorted now. Quick summary for anyone who may be interested:

- eSure couldn't insure me on the zed!!! Didn't bother getting a quote for the saxo

- Admiral wouldn't insure the recent engine swap in the saxo

- Many other normal insurer's also wouldn't touch the saxo

- Got both cars insured through Adrian Flux for £175 cheaper than the Admiral renewal, with better cover (lower excess, more mods, breakdown cover etc)

- Other specialist insurer's couldn't match the Flux price
