Rock_Steady
Although the GTR is am amazing car. I don't see it as a bargain or the R8 for that matter. In a few years they will be but 30k is not a bargain in my eyes. You all must earn more than me. I couldn't spend a years salary on a car! Not everyone does spend their salary on a car. They just pay it off monthly.

Paddy78
You can get some older Merc AMG stuff for crazy money now I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the big engined Mercs. SL63 etc... not for me but again, bang for your buck! That's a great shout, loads of power and noise! What am I, a f**king mirage?
docwra
Same way I called the Murci in the first post a bargain, as if you want a manual mid-engined V12 supercar you'd need to get an F50 for half a million quid. Yeah, but thats like saying "If you want a house in Kensington youre going to have to pay at least £2m", it doesnt mean £2m is a bargain in the first place. Broaden the requirement from "V12 mid engined manual supercar" to just "supercar" then theres plenty of Ferraris, 911 turbos and even the GTR that would give it a run for a lot less outlay. I did mention the massive barges (could be jags, bimmers, Mercs, Bentleys, Range Rovers, whatever) - a mate of mine picked up an absolutely mint 02 plate S500 for a grand the other day, but he is also seeing about 12 mpg and thats not bargainous in a £1K car. coldel
Heres one for you to shoot down in flames, Renault Megane 2.0l on an 03 plate. £1500, full panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start, tonnes of electronics inside, great seating position and comfort, decent MPG on long drives, very good computer in the dash with all sorts of read outs. For fifteen hundred quid, have been very impressed and surprised!

I am not saying that its a cool car, I hate driving it, but for £1500, 50k miles, full service history, brand new pirellis, all optional extras included, for £1500 for a run around, it aint arf bad for what the wife needs! For fifteen hundred quid, have been very impressed and surprised! I paid £800 for my GTI-6, it may not have keyless or a panoramic sunroof but its actually fun to drive and took some decent scalps when I took it to Rockingham as well, will do 40+ mpg if driven carefully as well. Weve also got a 207HDi, OK it was a bit more than £1500 but is comfy, quick enough and returns anything up to 75mpg, thats not to be sniffed at. For your Megane to be a bargain Id be wanting to pick it up for £500 and see 50+ mpg, while Im sure its a great car theres loads of other stuff you can get for the same money - to use previous example you can get an 07 plate Kia Cee'd for £1500 that has more equipment and at least 15mpg better .......... How about Saab 9000 turbos? Massively spacious, comfier than your bed, arguably quicker than a 350 in a straight line, bulletproof reliability and easily less than a grand, if they were RWd I dontt hink Id have bothered with anything else in the last 12 years. Jetpilot
You dont have to be able to afford it or justify the expense to see something is a bargain. I cant afford a Gtr but appreciate its a bargain. Likewise i am working in a flat for a client at the moment, they bought it three years ago for £525k, they spent £150k when we refurbished it originally and its now worth around a million, it was a bargain at £525 and i will never ever ever have that sort of cash, but its still a bargain Edited September 25, 2015 by Jetpilot
Juggalo
BMW M6. Nearly 90-100k new. You can pick up an early one for about 16k. V10. 507bhp. Entry level supercar for same price as a new corsa. Still looks like a repmobile though, they all do. For 16k, I'd want something that catches the eye, not induces a yawn. Anything rare will get an admiring look from an enthusiast, the note alone from the S85 in the M5/M6 turns enough heads. I don't know about the area you live, but I've never seen another M6 on the street here. Seen a hand full of other 6ers, which makes them rare enough as it is, never mind one with a factory V10 fitted I agree with your point about 3 and 5 series, though, they are 2 a penny all over Europe, same goes for Audi 4's, 5's and 6's. I couldn't tell if it was a 1, 3, 4, 5 series until it passed and I saw the M5 badge. if I spent 50k on a car, I would not want any one to mistake me for a 118, I don't care how fast it is. I think that's why most of us buy Zeds. They're quite rare, distinctive, attractive and you won't mistake it for any other Nissan, let alone any other car. I'm almost contemptuous of Beamer and Audi drivers for the lag of imagination and style. Bland. The only ones that get a pass are the BMW Z. And the last good looking Audi was the Quattro IMO. But why does it matter? Surely as long as you enjoy your car who gives a flying f**k what some stranger or even someone you know thinks about it. Also there are plenty of people out there who honestly don't have a clue about how much one car costs compared to another, ...all these people know is that Ferrari means expensive, Ford means common, Citroen means French cheap cr*p, BMW means Rep mobile etc etc blah blah blah. I have always spotted them from a mile off with their distinctive styling, doesn't matter if it's a 635d, 645ci or an M6, they all stand out. 350's/70's stand out too, that's one of the reasons why I bought a 350 originally and why I'd love a 370 at some point. No matter what you own, someone, somewhere will think it's something else.

No matter what you own, someone, somewhere will think it's something else. Maybe, but that's not really what I'm getting at. I'm talking about the formula BMW use. If you left Uni with a degree in product design, the last place you'd want to work is BMW or Audi. You'd want Jag, Ford, Vauxhall, Nissan, Honda, etc. You can use your imagination. BMW and Audi don't really have one. I agree the 6, Z and I look more distinctive, but they're pretty much exceptions to the rule/formula. Ekona
Vauxhall, imaginative?! I'm sorry, but all the brands you mention create some seriously dull looking cars for the vast majority of their range. All Fords essentially look like scaled versions of each other, Nissan create the most boring mainstream cars on the planet next to Toyota, Honda's range sends me to sleep, and even the regular Jags are hardly exciting to look at. I'm not saying that a 320D or an A4 2.0TDi are interesting, but it's not like the Mondeo, Insignia, XE, Micra or Civic Tourer are setting the world on fire. Think Audi are dull? Haven you not seen the latest TT interior? That's stunning, and very creative with the LCD dash and controls on the air vents. They lead the way in interior design right now. However, I agree that BMW have slipped up a lot lately as their core range is bland, as are the M cars to look out inside and out. Nissan is a deathly dull brand, by and large. The GT-R may be quick, but it's definitely not a looker.
Zeezeebaba
Every manufacturer has at least one model that I like, it's all about individual perspective. Corporate identity and mainstream segment rivalry mean most cars are similar. It all depends what's important to the individual tastes and needs. The lines between reliability, performance and build quality are more blurred now than ever before. Certain brands still ride high from the days when the reality of the product was superior to the accountant led cheapness of others. It used to be Jap for reliability, German for build quality and everyone else for cheap cheerful repair costs and purchase price. Not so clear cut now in reality unless you have the money for top end stuff. Badge snobbery is a misguided concept now and I first started to see this when the original Ford focus emerged back in the 90s, it was a vastly superior car to everything else in its segment but because it was a Ford it took time for people to adjust. The die hard ford fans at the time even carried on buying the dismal escort such was the reversal in fords philosophy.
