Porsche Mission E

It looks like Porsche are finally taking the EV stuff seriously:

  • 600bhp
  • 300 mile range
  • 15 minute recharge time - via 800 volts (current max is 400 volts on Tesla SuperChargers)
  • and it doesn't look half bad

No idea about actual production or price, but I suspect £100k+ to compete with a P90D-L.....Things are starting to get interesting on the EV performance super saloon side of things :)

Basically, it p*sses all over the Tesla in every way that matters.

It would if you could buy one today, but you cannot, not till 2018 at the earliest :)

Still it looks good, makes me wonder what to do in come late 2016/early 2017.

The Audi-e-tron looks like it's going to make it to production too by 2018, so VW are putting plenty of cash behind EVs.

Jaguar/Landrover are apparently prepping a full EV too, that test bed chassis looks almost identical to the Model S chassis.

Will be interesting to see who can get what out into production the quickest - Either way looks like plenty of choices will be coming in the £50K+ EV market :)

They're all still smug-mobiles for the super rich who don't rely on an EV as their only means of transport.

Wake me up when you can buy one for less than £20k and I might consider for the daily commute. I'd still want a proper car for the weekends though. ;)

Clearly VW feels its interesting enough to pour a heap of £££ into EVs....Personally I've never liked any VW group based product, VW/Audi/Porsche none of them have ever interested me. But they've put their £££ down and starting to show some potential.

Nissan is already fully committed to EVs, but sadly Infiniti simply don't have the budget to develop something that will rival Audi/Porsche/Tesla.

Like it or not more and more EVs are coming, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Nissan stick a EV drivetrain in the next Z, they are already hinting it's going to be cross over, so it's not beyond imagination they might do a whole drivetrain change.....I bet your guys are looking forwards to that ;)

The manufacturers are being forced because of tightening emissions regs targets they have to meet across their ranges, personally if they chuck out ev stuff to allow full fat stuff to exist i am all for it

But "interesting" it is not, sure you keep posting on the wrong forum by mistake

Let me make some recommendations for you:

Or are they all as dull as the cars themselves so you thought you would keep posting here to enjoy being a cat amongst pigeons :surrender:

If that's the case then all talk of cars that aren't zeds should be banned then.

I personally find 911's and new mustangs boring but I don't tell people to go and chat about them on other forums.

I like the tesla and don't mind gangzooms posts about it.

Double standards and all that

Dislike!

I enjoy your posts Gangzoom. I've never driven an EV but i get the appeal. I appreciate driving all types of cars, it doesnt have to be a V6 or V8 monster for me to enjoy it. ;)

Dude, for someone thats usually so well informed, have you been asleep for the last 5 years or something? Audi have been running flywheel accumulators in their WEC cars for 3 years now and Porsche for 2, the Nissan GTR-LM concept was mental as well.

Infiniti are part of Renault/Nissan and are the leading manufacturer of EV's globally with $4.2bn sales and Teslas were operating out of a shed in California a few years ago, I hardly think its a David and Goliath situation is it?

They're not though, that's the point. However, let's not go down that route again, and instead lets just appreciate that a large manufacturer has decided to make an EV that doesn't send people to sleep just looking at it.

I'm aware of all that, but it's only now VW have put two cars on the show that look like they will likely go into production. The motors in the Porsche looks interesting, especially about heat management, though I always thought it was the battery heat management that limited Tesla for track work. But I know VW are using LG for their batteries which is a different chemistry from Tesla.

If priced like for like, with similar specs, I'll pick the Porsche badge over a Tesla....will mean holding on the Leaf till 2018....So potentially an extra 12 months of milk float jokes

Looks like a proper future car B) and Porsche don't get much wrong, or at least keep when they do they keep working on the mistake for 50 years to get it perfect

When the tech inevitably trickles down to normal human money it might make for some er, interesting, options down the road (assuming infrasructure catches up and some sort of standards are agreed upon).

i think tesla opening their tech up to the rest of the world will help with the roll out. sure what they have today might not be in the station just down the road from you in 5-10 years time, but when the whole world gets to tinker with tech then the rate at which is improves and matures is so much faster than big corps can do on their own.

while EV's can't compare with combustion in every regard right now i think the fact we have some viable options is the start of EV becoming the norm. sure there are still issues with the rare metals the batteries need, but that too is being worked on by our boffins. EV just makes too much sense considering the global drawbacks to fossil fuels.

that said i'm glad i'm living in this era and have a 3.5L V6 to play with cos while EV can clearly perform, it just doesn't sound as sexeh :)
