Lincolnbaggie
I need to know which rock band covered this song (and I don't mean Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart or Sheryl Crowe). Someone must know (and Google isn't my friend anymore)?

mbs
P P Arnold - The First Cut is the Deepest was the first of her singles to reach the top 40 although she had already released four singles. This song had been especially written for her by Cat Stevens. Us oldies are good for something
Lincolnbaggie
We won't answer if you don't ask politely Sorry about that; got my work head on. "Does anyone have any idea who recorded the First Cut is the Deepest apart form Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens and Sheryl Crow? I'd be ever so grateful if any of you good people could help me out on this. Thanks in advance (you lovely people you)" Is that better?

I keep singing it in my head, and I've definitely heard a different version but just can't place it.... Cheers for any more thoughts anyone
mbs
More info: [edit] P.P. Arnold version African-American expatriate singer P.P. Arnold, popular in the United Kingdom, had the first hit with the song, reaching number 18 on the UK Singles Chart with her cover of it in May 1967, well ahead of when the song appeared on Stevens' album. The Arnold hit featured an up-tempo, soulful vocal set against harpsichord, horns, and strings. Noted 1960s British filmmaker Peter Lorrimer Whitehead made a primordial music video clip for the song, featuring a non-singing Arnold cavorting on a British beach alongside The Small Faces. Stevens is said to have never released his original recording as a single, because he felt Arnold's version was definitive.
