Wrighty086
Being a newbie I thought I would post this after reading the "why it's a bad idea to mix tyres thread". Presently my car is in the alloy specialists workshop having my original wheels refurbished and powder coated gunmetal grey (probably a waste of money but didn't think it was too bad for all 4 wheels at £260). I had decided to replace all four tyres (ditch finders) whilst getting the wheels done, but the tyre place only had MPSS in 245 45 R18 and convinced me to buy two Uniroyal Rainsport3, 225 45 R18 (same price as the MPSS) for the front, otherwise I would have to wait a week for them to order in the 225 MPSS. As I'm in a rush and wheels will be finished tomorrow I've gone with it but now having second thoughts as it's a lot of money to spend (£550) on something I'm not 100% sure of (I still have the Uniroyals in my garage ) Just wondering what to do now and after some advice. Could I fit 245 MPSS's all round? Would anyone recommend the above mixture of Uniroyal (have a good write up) with the MPSS? Am I worrying over nothing? Edited to say, what about fitting the Uniroyals all round in correct size? Are they any good? Edited August 20, 2015 by Wrighty086
SHEZZA
Seems daft if you ask me to get your wheels refurbed then have brand new tyres fitted that are mixed. Can they not just refit your old front ones till the MPSS Arive
Ekona
You'll be okay. The setup you describe will give understeer, but it's better than oversteer or chronic oversteer if you fit same size tyres all round. Tbh I'd have kept the ditch finders on until you can get the MPSS in the correct sizes. At least they'd have matched, and you were used to them. Just fit the correct MPSS on the front when they arrive, and chuck the Uniroyals on eBay.
Stutopia
+1 I wouldn't put wrong profile on the fronts for the sake of a week with the old ones on.
Wrighty086
Unfortunately I don't have the time as I leave the North East next Wed and drive back South. Also trying to get them fitted whilst the wheels are off rather than worry about them getting damaged by a fast fit tyre garage so quickly after having them powder coated. Anyone have any experience with the Uniroyals?
Ekona
They're fine. I wouldn't fit them to a 350, but for something like an MX5 they'd be a good choice. Just drive with a bit of caution and get the tyres changed over as soon as you can.
Wrighty086
Okay thanks for the help. I'm about to order MPSS fronts via Blackcircle, they can have them delivered and fitted at a local garage by Tue next week. All in will only cost an extra £8. Jetpilot
Try tyreleader or oponeo, they are usually the cheapest for tyres.
