beemerkev
Hi guys im looking to buy a 350z probably 2005/06 reg. I wouldnt mind a bit of a project car catc/d to bring back to life.I was wondering if you might give some advice re mechanical running issues to look out for, I was thinking either 6-speed manual or do the auto models have tiptronic option? All advice/opinions would be really appreciated Cheers Kev
tommoger
The clutch was a big one for me. Stock clutch went at about 50k miles, from what I learned through my research they have been known to start slipping as early as 25k miles and the stock clutches use dual mass flywheels which are more expensive to replace. I replaced mine with a Competition Clutch lightweight single mass flywheel and Competition Clutch Stage 2 Racing Clutch, been fantastic ever since

GMballistic
Welcome aboard. Re: the clutch. Just treat it like buying any secondhand car & check as best you can to whether the clutch is slipping or not when you test drive the car. My old '03 350Z was on 95K miles, supercharged with 436bhp and was still on it's original OEM clutch when I sold it. There is no certainty to when an OEM clutch will go at all as there are so many variables involved. Eg How the car has been driven etc. Link: http://www.350z-uk.c...-clutch-lasted/ Lots & lots of us members use our Zeds in anger on trackdays etc but the most recognised owner for doing hill climbing I'd say is Andy James. Link: http://www.350z-uk.c...ack-day-season/ Personally I wouldn't get an auto box especially not in a 350 but that's up to you. More info here: http://www.350z-uk.c...6-buyers-guide/ http://www.350z-uk.c...uding-upgrades/ http://www.350z-uk.c...-zed-on-95-ron/ http://www.350z-uk.c...tential-buyers/ http://www.350z-uk.c...-must-read-wip/ Also a good idea to have a good read of the service schedule for the 350 so that when you look at cars you know whether or not the servicing has been kept up to date depending on mileage/age of the car. firemansim
Mine was a tiptronic auto and I loved it, plus none of the usual clutch problems. Although, if you want an auto, it will have to be an import.
