Build your own drone kit

Quite fancy doing something like this. But would want a kit to start with.

Something will a.l the parts required and a step by step guide on who to build it.

Anyone seen anything decent?

Looks like it will be a fun little hobby.

Ive always wanted to know this too. But watching drone racing vids on Youtube makes you realise there is some serious money/kit involved!

That looks great fun.

As with anything, when you go to the extreme it can get expensive. Not looking to do anything like that (yet), just something I can tinker with.

Have had nitro powered rc cars before and enjoyed stripping them down and rebuilding, but didn't like the mess.

I bought a Parrot AR drone a few months back for £150 off eBay. It is controlled using an iPad or iPhone. You have to be careful you don't fly beyond your wifi range. I learned the hard way, and the wind picked it up and before I knew it, it was out of control and last seen flying off into the distance, never to be seen again ( well not by me).

I have since bought another one and this time I have attached a gps tracker, which if it goes out of wifi range, it will hold its gps position until I get close enough to control it again. I have taken it up above our village and got some great video footage.

Just make sure you have plenty of open space to fly one.

Hi Jimboy, I've got a fairly cheap drone but it is always a good laugh flying it plus it can record video & take pictures. It's great for a beginner to start with though...

About £50-£70 odd for one like that I'd guess (my Mrs bought it so have no idea on the exact price).

Another thread on drones here: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/94393-what-drone/

I will be upgrading in the future to a proper drone that I can attach my GoPro camera too though. Got to get my house all sorted firstly though before I start looking at buying "big boys toys". :teeth:

Check these videos below out though for what a drone can really do....

Thanks for the reply. I'm really after something that needs to be built. I have more fun building and dismantling things than I do actually using them, strange I know! The search continues

I'm the same, ...love building models & R/c kits etc. The only reason I've the drone I've got though is because I got it as a gift from the Mrs and tbf it's been great as my flying skills have greatly improved from using this drone.

A guy I used to work with has built his own drone though from scratch pretty much and he mounts a GoPro to it for flight recording.

He opted for early retirement some years ago but when he was in work we 3D printed a few parts for him for his drone as a favour. He does have some videos on Youtube but I can't remember what name or tag line they're under.

If I see him I'll ask him.
