Bodyboarder81
Hi all just wandering what's a half decent code reader that I can use for my 08 plate HR zed ... Needs to be able to read fault codes and be able to erase them . I use a I phone 6 ( heard you can get an app to use with the code reader? ) Sorry for the people I've asked before , can't remember what you said A link would be great Much appreciated
Stutopia
I bought the iobd2 reader and companion app, which was brilliant, until I recently had reason to suspect that it didn't pick up every code. Grrrr. So I'm on the look out for a replacement myself. You can't go bluetooth on iOS, so your looking for a WiFi one. Watch out on Amazon and fleabay as there's a few fakes (not even genuine fakes ). Last one I picked up was a few quid, supposed to work with android (I have a nexus 7 lying collecting dust), that didn't work either

Stutopia
I was thinking uprev tuner but I'm loathe to have a dirty Windowz machine in my world, I'm doing my best to eliminate tech support from my personal life and just keep it at work

Stutopia
I've been doing some reading and Dash Command seems to be well liked for the app side, there's some compatible "dongles" on their website: http://palmerperformance.com/hardware/ Check out Wasso's post (post#205) - http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/92221-ipad-mini-install-obdii-dash-command-page-10/page__st__180 From what I've read, lots of people have had success with Amazon/eBay ones for between £7-£20 (other reviews show they can be hit and miss). If you buy from Amazon, it's usually simples to return something if you have issues: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?k=wifi+obd2+elm Then there's a bunch at about £60-£120, like - http://www.kiwiwifi.co.uk/product_info.php?name=PLX-Kiwi-2-wifi-for-iPhone&model=kiwiwifi&prod=PLX-0029&osCsid=0bbbec04605d280004739bd1cee84559 Then you start to get into bigger investments, the wireless dady appears to be - http://www.espautomotive.co.uk/smartphone-devices/obdlink-wifi-scantool-works-with-ios-iphone-ipad-p-57.html From what I've read, I'd say take a bash on a cheapo wifi unit for dash command. If it works, you're in, if it doesn't you're only £10-£20 down. Or go balls deep on a higher price one and hope they've done a good job! Randy_Baton
took me 4 attempts at cheap ones (~£10) to find one that worked. This is the only one I could get to connect. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051CFGBA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 Its never reported any faults though! I use Dash command or torque
Gudzy
I have one of these from eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181670410282 It's worked in every car I've tried it in which is a UK DE 350z, S2000 and jag x-type so I'd recommend it. I've tried a Bluetooth dongle but I couldn't get it to work.
Stutopia
Just got all crazy and spunked £9 on this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121660462838?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I'll let you know when it lands if its any good. If it doesn't work, I'll suck up the £9 and do it properly: http://www.h-dev.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=25507

The best thing about Cipher is that UpRev claim it uses Nissan proprietary protocols - meaning faster logging rates and higher res data over generic OBD gadgets. My guess is probably half the reason for it's high cost is royalties to Nissan for access to their protocols.

jimboy2
I've had enough with Bluetooth ones so went with a hard wired one. Only used it twice to read my code due to HFC and then cleared. Seems to work pretty well OBD MATE OBDII OM123 Car Vehicle Code Reader Auto Diagnostic Scan Tool for 2000 or later US, European and Asian OBD2 Protocol Vehicle (Orange) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUW2PB4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_WBVXvbEHEB4J9 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUW2PB4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_WBVXvbEHEB4J9
Bodyboarder81
Ok thanks for all this info and links:) I want to get the dash command app to monitor what I can ..... Do I need a wifi/Bluetooth dongle to work with this or are they two completely different items that don't work together?

d95gas
Guys, You may be interested in "Nissan Data Scan", seems to work a treat and able to do a lot more than your average app. Be advised its best to get the recommended hardware to work with it, but they are cheap enough on eBay and 100% works with NDS and our Zeds. There are 3 varities of Nissan Data Scan, so have a look through and select which one is applicable...... All cheap enough so you are not spending a fortune. http://www.nissandatascan.com/
