StevoD
If you Didnt see my Report from my First round please look here http://www.350z-uk.c...my-first-round/ Right so my second round (the Championships 4th round) So my second round of the FBS, this time it took place during the Ultimate Street Car show at Santa Pod last weekend i had missed the 2nd and 3rd rounds due to a decision that i would not return untill my Kaaz 2 way had been fitted. So for this round as it was a Ken Block Gymkhana Grid Qualifier a Stop box had been added to the end of the track which you must stop in and not pass out of so another thing to adjust to. The usual 6am start was on order to get the cars packed and ready to roll me and my Friends headed down to santapod not really knowing what to expect for the day, We arrived and started to set up our area and start pumping tyres up after a drift day we take all the air out of the tyres as makes more space and less chance of an explosion as the wheel are carried in the back of a hatchback. And well the Day started out well on a down as we blew the 12v pump up on the first tyre at about 23 Psi, so we jumped in the skoda to go to the local halfords or petrol station to get another and got told If we left the show we would have to pay to get back in so that idea was scrapped but the Guy at the gate said the Pitstop shop on the strip might have them by this time it was around 9:30 and drivers briefing wat at 9:45 so i ran like a mad man to the shop to find they had a couple left on the shelf so i bought them all, and went to the briefing as my friend pumped the tyres up, I was a bit nervous to see how i would get on with the new diff, as i knew it was great for speedy drifts from donington but not tight technical stuff but the difference was day and night compared with round 1 although we had a few spins Although after a few runs in morning practise i had decided the Uniglory tyres just sucked, i had zero idea on what was happening at the back of the car, So after lunch i put on my favourite tyre to date to drift on a Set of Kenda kr20 and jumped in the car to find my Clutch Pedal stuck to the floor, so after a bit of playing with it came back so im guessing either the heat of the gearbox doing runs then not having space to do cool down runs boiled the fluid or the slave was on its way out. Although My friends where timing my runs and i was still way off the mark, after looking at the fast cars and finding out they were all on semi slick r888 or 123s tyres we had a play about with the damping and tyre pressures and as i lined up for another practise got told practise has finished and qualifications runs where about to take place. So i sat and watched as the FWD and AWD drivers had there qualification runs Then My time came my RWD group got called up and i head down to the start line going out on a blind set up, carried out my first two runs and wasn't feeling great as every run i was last to the box. But it got worse as i lined up for my 3/5 run i staged up and the car just died, no power at all. So i jumped out the car and had the joy of pushing it back off the start line to find for some random reason the battery terminal had come off, and as i wasn't allowed to cross the track to the pits i had to find a way of getting a message to my pit crew that i need a 10mm socket so enlisting a stranger to run around the track i eventually got we got started up and lined up, this turned out to be my fast run with a 23.25, i ran round for my last run and cocked it upon the second barrel passing out the course so was a DNF So that was it nothing more i can do was it enough? turns out there was 17 rwd cars and 16 would go through to the knock out rounds. And the Commentator stared listing off name 16 place - 15 place - 14 place - By now i was thinking im clearly number 17 then, But as they got to 12 place qualifier i heard my name and me and my little crew looked at each other in shock So grinning with excitement we went back the pits and well my pit crew went off for some well deserved pancakes, whilst i just sat thinking how the heck did i do that but we had worked out i was up against number 5 qualifier and good friend of Mr Dedman Hadley Fulbrock who i know is on point and very consistent, I was then Called up into place and send down to the Start line with Hadley following i got choice of lane so chose the right hand on the ground i qualified best in it, and well i fluffed it but as expected i lost and Hadley went through to the great 8 i ran a 23,72 and Hadley ran a 20.40 and that was the end of my day. but i was super stoked to qualify let alone not last and then got taken out by the guy who finished 2nd at the round i don't think is to bad. despite the tyre inflater, clutch and battery issue.
