shire350Z
Think you may be right there guys, one of the mechanics said something about oil being in areas it shouldn't be can't remember what he said now I'll check tomorrow.... Suppose it would be a good idea to swap these gaskets out on the new engine I get then too.

shire350Z
Well turning a massive negative into a small positive while the engine was out thought it was a good time to get the bay clean where I just can't get when the motors in and treat some of the small areas of rust, results below pretty happy

shire350Z
Well guys finally got my zed back from the garage and all seems well, as my oil pressure gauge hasn't been working for a long while now and I haven't been using the car much I can't remember what it should read, bought a new gauge from Ewen which now works but the pressure seems a little low! Unless this is normal?? From cold start up it fires up to 90PSI then when warm drops to around 15/20PSI as in the picture below, is this normal or should it be reading a higher PSI when the engine is up to temperature?
HiddenWomble
would be nice if the manual told us what pressures were safe... i've been working with 30 on tick over once warmed, and 60psi at 60mph in 6th gear (or 2K rpm). my HR seems to stick to that very well, but i have no idea how far up or down it could go before it's indicating a problem. i think DE and HR pressures are the same, at least when i was asking for numbers before the test drives i got a few DE owners chip in and all agree. did the garage check the oil gallery gasket? Kaveney
My one is the same when very warm 15-20 PSI . Alan
shire350Z
Yeah and said everything looked ok, seems to be more the HR engines with those issues, was reading back over a few threads and seems quite a few are saying the 15/20 Psi mark is ok, One guy said Nissan say above 14 PSI is ok but I'm not sure how you relate that to be a issue, if it could run at 15 and be fine for years that's fine but if it gradually gets lower its not looking good (again)
HiddenWomble
I did wonder where I got the impression the gasket was an HR issue only, sounds like you bumped into that so I probably wasn't going mad Sounds good though, normal pressures and then it's just a matter of keeping an eye on them over the years
Oggieteepo
Looks like a nice motor, mines tatty so glad it's sorted would have been a shame otherwise.. FYI my pressure is the same when the engine is at temp on Idle.
