  1. Hi Alex :)

I imagine I'll go for the used Brembo shims - as much as I'd like some Ti ones I can't justify the extra spends

Could you let me know how much it'll be to send me some used Brembo shims please? I assume they'll be fine to use with the DS2500's, the pads look the same....?

    Cheers,

    Leigh...

  2. OK, I think we've established that shims are a good thing, whether they're integral or separate to the pad shoe :teeth:

My new DS2500's didn't come with them as far as i can see so i need some.

If anyone has a spare front shim set kicking about let me know how much you'd want for them, Alex could you give me a price too if you're reading please ;)

  3. I checked my front pads this weekend and it turns out there aren't any anti-squeal shims fitted. They're the standard Brembo calipers and I'll be putting some Ferrodo DS2500 pads in soon.

Does anyone have any spare shims knocking around?

    Cheers :)

    Leigh.

  4. The shim is a flat plat which sits between the back of the pad and the caliper pistons, it should stop any squeals.

I checked my front pads this weekend because they were squealing and it turned out there aren't any shims fitted so i need some.

The problem for me seemed to be that the outer lip that develops as the disc wears was rubbing on the pad, so i knocked this off (rust/shale). I also copper greased the shoe where it meets the pistons and the leading and back edges of the shoe and the squealing has gone for now. Interesting that the lip was rusty and fell off the inside but the outside lip was solid metal, it must get damp/abused more on the inside.

  5. surely this is just another lichfield imports car? craigy if you havent heard of them go and have a look at their stock :)

I'm pretty sure the Evo article said it's for sale through the Subara dealer network. Apparently both Subaru and Cosworth are keen to make it work to prove they've they've both still got what it takes and that Subaru hasn't lost the plot entirely. The new car's been engineered to drive like the old ones - I reckon it looks lame and you should just buy a mint old one though :ninja:

Evo seem pretty excited about it bar the price...the upgrade parts aren't available separately either.

  6. Bank on doing 20mpg as a worse case scenario, unless you really do drive like it's stolen.

Seriously, if you need to work out the costs to this N'th degree the Zed might end up being a bit of a financial burden. On the plus side it's pretty cost effective compared to some of the 'premium' but not necessarily superior, competition ;)

  7. I just wanted to publicly thank Zmanalex for his service for some Ferrodo DS2500 pads that I've just received. There was a small issue with the courier and Alex bent over backwards to help resolve it. Good man!

  8. Thanks guys, I'll bear you all in mind. I'm mindful that by the time I've bought the exhaust/had it fitted used some fuel I may as well start to consider a nice new zorst ;)

If I'm passing your areas and still need it I'll give you a shout

In the meantime I'm still open to offers for these bits locally.....

    Cheers,

    Leeroy.

  9. My exhaust is blowing from the flange that connects the backbox to the pipe behind and I'm weighing up having it welded up or replacing with a good used backbox and pipe.

Has anyone replaced an OEM with an aftermarket exaust and got it sitting around?

Somewhere close to Bromley, Kent would be ideal....

  10. I just bought some Bilthamber shampoo, clay and Autobalm and they work a treat, tested them on my old SAAB which had a matt bonnet and roof and it looks mint now :D

I must admit I was a bit sceptical about the clay but it's great stuff. Another bonus is that Bilthamber's a UK company

  11. Has anyone used RSR on the Hastings Road into Bromley for wheel refurbs?

I went in there for a 4 wheel laser alignment last week and they seem good, almost bought some Falken 452's off them too but they couldn't get them in time for the Easter weekend.....

    Cheers in advance :)

  12. I came across a souped Corsa yesterday on the A1 near York, it was silver, newish - don't care enough to know what model year it was but it was hugely quick.

Admittedly I was in a high gear when he booted it but even when i dropped a couple of cogs I wasn't catching him as quickly as I'd like to have been :scare: We were at the upper limit of the national speed limit ;)

I can't believe it could have just been a remap. No other tell-tale signs other than those crappy Max Power 2" diameter wing mirrors :yuck:

  13. My key-fob remote signal has been getting weaker lately, I've had to get closer and closer to the car to unlock it. Being lazy I didn't replace the battery and when I went to unlock the car at the weekend nothing happened :bangin:

I got a new battery and tried it but still no joy so I'm assuming the fob needs reprogramming - is this normal when the battery goes flat?

When I reprogramme it do i need to do the spare key remote too? That one is working fine thank fook.

  14. I need 4 new tyres for the Zed pretty urgently (going for Falken 452's or Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas incidentally) and am going to be in Yorkshire for the Easter weekend so need to get them fitted en-route.

My route will be through Doncaster and across to the Skipton area. I checked Blackcircles out and Balby Tyres or a place on Oakwood drive (think it will be K. Butler's according to Google) look promising. Anyone used them?

Failing that, recommendations for anywhere between Donny and Skipton would be really appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :teeth:

  15. I did a search for this but couldn't find any info.

I'm about to tax my car and wondered if there is any benefit of taxing it for 12 months, ie is the tax going to increase soon.

I'm thinking that if the tax is due to go up in 7 months say, then i'll get 6 months now and tax it for a year next time to get in before the rate goes up :D

    Any thoughts?

  16. I noticed today that my drivers side window is dropping when driving along, enough to make the wind noise loud.

When I press the 'window up' button it does go up and the wind noise stops but a few seconds later it drops again. I did a search but couldn't find this specific problem, any ideas?
