  1. Bad time to be talking about leather seats in this weather isnt it?
  2. Just taken her for a spin with tunes cracked up. Tried touching the metal before puttin my feet on the ground and didn't get shocked so that's a start. I thought it was unlikely to be the amp but I only notice it when getting out after having the music loud, maybe I just move about more when it is Got the cloth seats + mats, usually wear jeans + t-shirt + trainers and get shocked whether it's on gravel or tarmac....
  3. Cheers for the suggestion. I'll try and figure out if its something like that
  4. Installed an Alpine 800W amp in the glovebox of my 350z. It's grounded to the metal below the glove box as far away from the fuel tank as I could get it with 4 guage cable. It works perfectly and I haven't had a problem with it except I get a small shock off the bodywork after I turn the ignition off and the amp has been sucking up a lot of juice (music loud). Seems to be proportional to the power the amp has been using. Like I say its not much just enough to make me scared of touching the metal as I get out.
  5. Bought some damplifier pro to do my doors along with my sound system install but when I took them apart I noticed how tight the fit is. Just wondering if anyone has done any work with sound deadening in the 350z. Where are the best places to stick it? Any tips on doing the doors so that the panel will fit again afterwards?
  6. Yeah think I'm gunna go with an Alpine PDX-1.600 as it will stack on top of the existing amp Undecided on the sub yet, was thinking maybe one of the Hertz ones, purely on looks right now lol Still not sure why im missin so much bass though. I have the rainbox front components and spl dynamics 6.5" woofers in the rear both hooked up to the amp. Neither set seems doing much below 100hz there's a bit round the high-mid thats seems a bit dead too
  7. No sub at the moment, was hoping i could get away with not having one as I wanted to use the stock speaker locations and i've heard how annoying it is having the sub right in your back. Thinking its probably going to have to be done now... Still I'm sure I should be getting more bass than I do right now. Almost nothing below 100hz
  8. Fed the wires thru the standard harness as per http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/Front_Speaker_Wire_Routing Basically take the block apart, drill thru in a place away from the other wires there in both sides and feed the wire through. It's a pain in the ass but the only way to get the wires in. There's just enough room to get at the harness and get the wires through without having to take the door off
  9. Certainly not happy with the sound at the moment. There's a little noise from the amp but generally the sound is good across the whole range. I'm guessing it could be the staging as the speakers in the stock position are pointing straight into the footwell. Adjusted a few things on the head unit which have improved the mids but sub bass still seems really shallow.
  10. Yeah that's the only place i could find with enough space on the door and enough clearance from the panel. The panel fits fine with a good amount of space around it still I was exactly the same! Bought all this stuff last september and only just round to finishing the install. Was quite shocked to see the amp that I paid £350 for is now up to £530. Crazy
  11. Thought I would share the latest step in my project. Swapped out the stock front speakers and hooked up these Rainbow CS265.25 Germanium speakers to an Alpine PDX-4.150 amp in the glovebox. Still need some tweaking at the sound staging in the 350z seems to be terrible First time I've done anything like this so it's been learning all the way
  12. Yeah noticed when I was playing around with mine that a surprising number of things stop working when you unplug the AC unit
  13. They're SPL Dynamics HF-6.1 woofers. Idea is they'll be taking Mid-Bass just to add a little more punch to the sound coming from the front
  14. Thought I would share the results of the days labour. Changed out the stock rear speakers and ran new cable to the amp situated in the glove box. Pain in the butt to get all the panels off and on but glad its finally done Panels all off, new speakers in place: Final result:
  15. Tried the metra facia, it's not perfect but does the job. Seems that units tend to sit slightly too high when using the standard mounting brackets.
  16. Still not round to hooking everything up, only have the weekends and its been raining alot recently, will let you know more when I do. Unit seems to work fine, plays pretty much anything, gps works well. It does have the outputs you'll need for the bose amp. I connected it up using a standard iso adaptor and the steering wheel control unit so the steering wheel controls work with it. Track skip seems to only work one way, but according to the docs I have you're meant to use the sony adaptor for the new pioneer units so im going to order one of those and swap it out and see if it's any better http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/steering ... 9-674.html is the connector you'll need. I hacked mine up a bit as it needing grounding. Will keep you posted on the sony connector situation
  17. Got the Metra 99-7402 through today. Ordered from http://blamoshop.amazonwebstore.com/Met ... 6Z9K28.htm as was the first one I found that could ship to the UK without any messing about. Hopefully get that in this weekend. Still need to find time to do the speakers too
  18. It's the non-BOSE system I'm replacing so there is no standard sub. That amp is going to power the door and rear speakers. Sub will be a job for another day
  19. Quick update. Been busy last few weekends but got round to fitting the amp today. Decided to go with the glove box as the install location as it's pretty much the perfect size and with a few holes drilled it's really easy to get the wires there and out of site. Ordered a Metra 99-7402 from the states which is going to take 2-3 weeks to get here. Hopefully get round to putting the speakers in tomorrow. Got a new set for the doors and rear. Also picked up some Damplifier to do around the doors
  20. Look like the rims off a rover zr 160
  21. Decided to give http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine- ... -4846.html a try. It's actually really quite small. I was thinking about putting it under the passenger seat or in the glove box.
  22. stuck it under the dash by the dials as suggested. Works absolutley fine going to see about getting the fitting kit next. After that I need to find a good spot for the amp and get the new speakers in
  23. Thanks for the input Which fitting kit is needed? The GPS aerial doesnt need to visible at all then? You can just put in inside the dash? I've connected up the various wires and done all the re-soldering. Everything seems to be working on test, including the steering wheel controls
  24. Yes it's slightly smaller. Sure I read somewhere else someone had the same problem. Could make it line up with the centre but still not going to solve the problem as there is already a bit of a gap at the top. Oddly the facia that comes with it is bigger than the standard 350z one and doesn't fit in the standard hole. Will have a look around to see if I can find any different facias. Anyway, on with the install tomorrow
