  1. Couldn't care less, it's peanuts in relative terms of how much the car costs to run over a year.
  2. S'okay mate, we all know it's not your fault you're ancient It's a true point though. Not a huge amount we can do about it, except divert every single penny we give to developing world countries and look after our own for a change. Just my 2p.
  3. Jesus titty-f*cking christ that is the most distracting thing I have ever seen. Clever idea, horrendously implemented.
  4. I think this is all getting a little bit out of hand now. Nothing wrong with the forum nor the club in the slightest and hasn't been for years, and suggesting wholesale changes to how it should be run is doing a huge disservice to the good folks who run this place.

    Test drives...

Weird that, Cambridge and GT-R wouldnt actually let me drive a 370, made me drive a GT-R instead. Must be the way you look Didn't even get as far as going up to see them, the bloke was so utterly rude on the phone insinuating that I was wasting his time and that I must be after one of the cheaper GT-Rs in stock and not a brand new one, especially as I was probably after top money for my 350Z which he obviously wasn't going to pay (all his words), to which I basically told him he was being utterly rude to a potential customer, that I didn't like his attitude in the slightest so promptly buggered off and bought the 911 instead. He probably did me a favour in the end as I'm sure I'd have been seduced by the GT-R and bought one without even seeing if I could get into a Porker instead. Still, no reason to treat someone who may want to drop £60K on your doorstep like an idiot. Still rankles me, that one.
  6. Hadn't noticed that, good point. Again though, and for fear of repetition, I'm not referring just to that one single poll but the idea that any popular poll on here should be acted on. I'm sure some famous person at some point must've said something along the lines of "The people have no idea what they want or what's good for them!"
  7. But how many people voted out of how many people are regular users to the site? Again, I'm not trying to use that example as the be-all and end-all of my argument, but I'm sure you can see the point I'm trying to make. Just because the vocal minority may want something, that doesn't make it right for the majority and the team have to balance up every decision they make for the greater good and not just to keep the peace.

    Test drives...

On a serious note though, if you want to be taken seriously as a buyer then ring and make an appointment for a test drive as that way they're not either going to judge you on how you look, nor how much cash they think you might have. If they start taking the p*ss down the phone then you've only wasted a phonecall rather than any effort. I've had incredibly rude dealers on the phone before who I've actually had to stop mid-sentence and tell them that they're treating me like crap, and that I won't be buying a car from them. Mentioning no names of course, but Cambridge and GT-R are two valuable words here. That said, I've also built up good relationships with dealers just by dropping in off the street on the off-chance too, so sometimes you just need to get lucky.
  9. But the successful ones don't change things just for the sake of it, or to appease a small minority of people who want something gimmicky for the sake of it. That's not to belittle your idea in that thread Sarnie: Whilst it's not something I would use, I can appreciate that others would, it's more a case of why waste time and effort over something that can already be achieved in a different way (in a sig) without any problems? If Apple added every little thing that the vocal minority want their iDevices to do, we'd end up with an iPhone that's hideously complex and fiddly for the majority (see: Android). How about if Coke kept changing their recipe? My point is that change for the sake of change isn't always a great thing. The club is constantly evolving and expanding, and the recent tie-up with NMGB is a great example of this and is opening the club up to new opportunities.
  10. Wow, appears I missed quite an epic thread last night. The best governments in the world are dictatorships. They're efficient, you don't get any petty squabbling, and things get done. Democracies are full of arguing and popularity contests rather than actually trying to work out a good way to get things done. Since this is just an internet forum and the risk of being sent to the gallows are slim to none, I would humbly suggest that voting is a terrible idea. Even in the few years I've been here, this club has gone from strength to strength and all based on the decisions of the team that run it. Were we going backwards or standards were slipping then there may well be good reason for change, but as it stands there is no point tinkering just for the sake of it. If you want some banners for photos on a run you're doing, whether that's in Scotland or Devon or Outer Mongolia, just PM one of the team and I'm pretty sure they'll be able to arrange it that you get one.

Surely at that point you just lie? Why on earth would you tell the truth??!!
  12. I know one ex-Mod who hadn't met anyone when he was handed a Modship Not really sure that matters a lot mate if I'm honest, as all moderating is done on the interweb where it doesn't matter where you are
  13. I've yet to sell a vehicle that didn't have outstanding finance!
  14. You know that's not going to be a cheap fix, don't you? At least not to get it to a point where you'd be able to sell it on. Seats, carpets and seals aren't cheap for Porsches. I'd hire a trailer myself and go and collect it, at least you can see it in person before committing.
  15. Not you personally, I meant in general. *backtracks*
  16. If you're too stupid to remember when your insurance is due, then that's your fault. Same with MOT and VED.
  17. Get some Vaseline on the seals.
  18. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... zone=PDPz1 ^^ That one is worth the extra £10. Ratchet spanners are a godsend at times Spot on, Ian. That one you linked to Rmacnair isn't the Pro range, the one Ian posted up is.
  19. Anything that cheap is worth a punt, you could always split and sell if you got bored of it. Regarding tools, if you're going to buy them then only buy decent ones. There is nothing more frustrating than getting halfway through a job and having the tool break on you because it was a cheapy cheapy special. No need to buy all SnapOn ones of course, but just something with a decent brand name on will do: Halfords Pro range are excellent and they're often doing deals on one bit of kit or the other.
  20. Do a Defender up correctly and you'll make a nice profit on it, especially if you've the cash to upgrade it into a nice mud-plugger.
  21. Defender or the Golf for me out of that list. Parts will be plentiful and cheap for both, and there's a vast amount of knowledge out there if you get stuck.
  22. No issues here, replying on my iPad 2 now. Try a re-sync, or wipe it and restore.
  23. They are, and you'll spend most of your time hunting around for the silly bit of electrics that playing silly buggers rather than fixing anything mechanical.
  24. Break a Zed and it costs £000's to sort, plus it's your only car. Break a shed and you're only down the cost of the shed. I think the OP is doing it exactly the right way, mechanics is mechanics really once you've got the basics down.
