  1. Definitely take it elsewhere, if nothing else you rule out incompetence.
  2. Also, doctors and bus drivers and firemen going on strike can f*ck the hell off. Doctors I almost get, bu the last two? Greedy bastards. Sorry to hijack Chris, wanted to get that off my chest though
  3. Honestly? My first choice would be to take it somewhere else to see if they find the same thing, but obviously don't tell them that there might be problems. If your usual place can't see anything immediately wrong then it's unlikely to be a cheap fix regardless, so a quick £80 alignment may not be a complete waste of time if they can find something from a clean perspective.
  4. I wouldn't even ever have dreamed of asking for time back if I was ill on annual leave (the fact it's my own business aside!), I would just look at it as incredibly bad luck.
  5. In a way, he's correct as any IAM trained driver will tell you. You do lose a certain amount of control, however I tend to subscribe to the book of needing to brake rather than accelerate at those speeds. Rich put it best at the top of this page.
  6. Remind me again how Europe is doing in terms of economy? And they wonder why things are screwed On a related note, we got a young lad with us who does one day a week at college. Apparently he's only supposed to do a maximum of 27 hours a week with us, with a further 8 being the lone day at college! That's not remotely close to 5 days work, how the hell do they expect us to teach him anything?! Luckily the kid's got a sensible head on his shoulders and ignores it, but what a stupid idea. Was never like that when I did my course 10+ years ago.
  7. Silverstone-something was an S2000 colour I think. Could be wrong though.
  8. Come on folks, not again... http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/3dfilm.asp Always, always check Snopes first!
  9. Could not HAVE known who he was f****g with
  10. Any one else feel the need to have a nap after reading this thread?
  11. Have you tried asking the manufacturers? Would seem to be a good place to start.
  12. Vertical axis is gear ratio (top graph is before FD, bottom graph after) and horizontal is indeed gear. There's some very subtle differences between the two graphs if you look closely, but it's also highlighting that despite the ratios being different on paper, once you add the FD they're very close. Really it would be worth doing a graph overlaying the ratios with speed as well, plus showing the power/torque curves too. As for what makes a 911 feel faster than a 350Z, about 100bhp more, 100kg less and a different power/torque curve will do that
  13. Would you buy a used car with a gap of almost half a year in it's servicing record? I understand your reasoning, but I wouldn't look favourably on it. There's absolutely no reason why you couldn't do what you're suggesting, and I may even be tempted myself, but you're not really saving anything anyway as the MOT is peanuts compared to a service.
  14. Going back very briefly to when I asked about how gear ratios work, I asked a mate who explained that you simply multiply the given gear ratio by the final drive ratio. Using the two examples I gave, and just to show what difference the FD can make on a car, here's a couple of graphs I knocked up: Top one is original ratios, bottom one is multiplied by the final drive. Given the Zed has a marginally shallower curve, I'd say that it's probably got a closer 'box than the 911 does. However, you can now see why the 911 feels so much quicker than a 350 (and why the FI Zeds feel bonkers) as you've got a load more power but an almost identical curve. Of course, we're now miles off tangent but I thought it would be interesting to view the comparison. For sh*ts and giggles, here's the chart comparing the two cars above with a host of options that the Cobra kitcar builders have. The T56 is the spec my mate is using on a 427 block, the other specs are the gearings used on the original Cobras, in both close ratio and wide ratio options in two different FDs:
  15. Bingo, I was going to say the Capri as well!
  16. It's utterly horrendous, and check out the shutlines on the rear: Appalling. Okay, so it's not quite that bad, but it's certainly no looker. That front end has a distinct whiff of Kahn about it.
  17. The sequel has been on iTunes for a few weeks now, and it's of the 2011 race
  18. If you fancy a change frequently then it's a good way to get into a new car.
  19. Heh, I do the speed reading thing too so I totally understand where you're coming from, the missus gives me so much grief when I miss the obvious too!
  20. So you didn't actually bother reading the great big "First time users in here please - Introduction to this forum" thread at all then?
  21. I didn't say you did I do drive my truck for economy, but never my cars. MX-5 barely sees 4th gear, and the 911 lives at the redline unless I'm plodding along the motorways in 7th.
  22. I didn't say I drive any of my vehicles like that
