Correct, and it's driving the tuning guys in the US nuts! It's more the torque than the power though, as that's what kills gearboxes. I don't think the PDK is a weak 'box, it's the electronic controls that are getting in a faff and reigning the output in. Anyone can engineer a stronger shaft, but decoding specialist gearbox electrics is a little more specialised. It will happen eventually, but probably on the 991 rather than the 997.

But are they? How many people actually buy a convertible to drive hard and enjoy having the roof down when doing so, and many people buy one just to look cool and waft around in? Even on here, more people buy the Zed because of how it looks rather than how it drives, and we're all car nuts so I suspect the number of poseurs out there is significantly higher! If you can get the pose-factor along with a solid MPG and are never going to be interested in chasing the redline, then I can't see why you'd buy the petrol over the diesel.

You have three options on the 997: Manual, auto or PDK. Never been in an FI 911, I do keep looking at 996 GT2s though. Would love a 997 version. But they're out of my price range and I think there's only 1 UK car with the PCM3, which I'd consider a must-have on a 997.

I dunno, diesel cars these days don't really make tractor noises anymore. Even my truck makes a fairly entertaining (albeit harsh) note when you're really ragging it, and that's just a 3L four pot with a single turbo. I would never buy one, pretty much for the noise reason alone, but I can see why others would.

Remind me again which version yours was? Was it the previous gen with the SLR-style headlights, or the one before with the square-o-rama ones? I really like the new one, and am grateful that there's still an AMG model that has a V8 but no turbo strapped to it. Along with the C63, of course. It's just a huge shame there's no way to turn the TC off completely, as that really puts me off. I wouldn't mind if it was off properly but came in if you were completely hamfisted (Porsche do this), but it's the fact that it's always nannying at a level that bugs me. It shouldn't do, and it's stopping me buying some very good cars, but it does.

It's true, just checked on MBUK. Probably not going to see that mpg figure in the real world, and it'll make a horrible noise, but as a good looking cruiser that's pretty good value.

What happens if you start again? Like, right from the start. Remove a wheel, take the pads out, push the pistons back in, replace the pads, check fluid, rinse and repeat. All with the top off the reservoir, of course I know you said you bled the calipers, but try starting from scratch and see what happens.

Possibly a slight variation between EBC pads and Ferodo ones, certainly nothing I'd worry about unless they're different side to side. Most pads don't cover the entire surface of the disc, but some do.

I could understand them breaking up in a turbo application with the incredible amounts of extra heat, but an SC? You've not got solid mounts on the engine or gearbox, have you Darren?

Agree with Marzman and Ace on this, either buy a cheapy cheapy one and expect to replace it fairly quickly, or buy a really good one and stick with it for life. Definitely stick with wired though, dremels aren't much cop on the really big stuff and if you do need to use it outside you can always run an extension cable.

That's the first alezan-interiored car I've seen that doesn't have the daft steering wheel with the orange bit at the bottom, and it looks far better for it. That was the one thing that always put me off wanting it on mine. Top car OP, nothing quite like a revup ragtop for the proverbial win

I don't think it's a case of not capable, it's either ignorance or forgetfulness not to remove the brake fluid reservoir cap. Greekman is spot on about the possibility of rupturing seals, but tbh I'd have thought it would be nigh-on impossible to push the pistons back in with the cap on (especially by hand), so I suspect that the OP did remove the cap.
