  1. I don't think we've had any sensibly priced truly groundbreaking cars for many years. Those that have been, either in design or technology, have either been poor sellers or just utter garbage. Alpine? Ostensibly an old design anyway. RR Evoque? Can't say I've seen many. Veloster? Not over here. I'd probably accept the Smart range in though, as there's an argument that they're the definition of a modern city car. Possibly also the original Cayenne for the modern fancy SUV, but man that was NOT pretty! Outside of normal money, the P1 definitely tried to do something different.
  2. Ignore him. Literally the best thing to do.
  3. It stopped both Toyota AND BMW, the only way they could make another car was to share the cost of the development! Fact is, no-one wanted a 370Z then, and no-one wants a 400Z now. If it ever comes it'll be many years down the line and it'll be unrecognisable from anything most on here would actually want. And I don't include myself in that many, as I know I'm the only miserable sod who wants a manual 'box and an atmos engine
  4. Exactly. As I've said many times before on GZs many EV threads, an EV is absolutely perfect for city driving and the dull commute. Long may they continue building EVs for that purpose. However if you actually want to drive the pants off the thing...
  5. And how many concepts without an engine do you see that ever get built?
  6. Like what? Random sketch on a page?
  7. So basically not a Leaf, then.
  8. Make it a spec-by-committee 2.0L turbo and it’ll sell peanuts, because why bother when you can buy a quicker and more practical hot hatch? Make it something different by using a V6 and it’ll sell peanuts, because it’ll be so thirsty in comparison and people are terrified of spending £40k on a car and then a few extra quid in fuel. There’s no right answer. Everyone is making 4WD hatches now because that’s what the majority of people want. A 2 seat coupe/convertible the wrong side of £40k just isn’t popular, unless you’re a premium manufacturer. A new Zed simply wouldn’t sell enough to make any money. Even the 718, the best sports car you can buy for non-silly money, isn’t doing anywhere near as well as previously because it has an engine that sounds like a toaster: in all other aspects it’s flawless, but making it so anodyne with that engine now has people looking at alternatives.
  9. You can’t buy them in this country any more though, sadly.
  10. Definitely go 3” straps, and preferably 6pt so you don’t run the risk of submarining in an accident. I’m not familiar with the bar you mention, but assuming it’s a brace between the two sides of the car and is of a reasonable thickness, then I’d be comfortable using it as a harness bar. Should be okay if you use wrap around harnesses too.
  11. Source? And if possible exact figures, as my cynical head is saying that’s only possible if it’s a country where Jag either sell 4 vehicles a year anyway, so it wouldn’t be hard to suddenly have 90% of sales be from a new car
  12. As Adrian says above. Basically if you have 19” wheels or bigger then it’s the PS4S for you, if 18” or smaller then PS4 are still excellent. I run the PS4 and they’re better than the old MPSS.
  13. Not a lot, or a very lot. I can count the number of times I've used a torque wrench out of considered necessity on one hand, the amount of times I've used one because it was just as handy as a regular wrench on a few people's hands, and the amount of times I've used it for wheel nuts I've lost count. In reality there's two types of torque setting, JE (Just Enough) or FT (F***ing Tight) JE for sparkplugs, FT for most other things! Should you use one every time? Of course. Do most people? Nope.
  14. *tyres I only ever ran N rated on mine when I had the warranty, but then I happily ran without a warranty for the last year of ownership too. Sack off the warranty and enjoy the car.
  15. How many miles has the car done? What weight oil are you using?
  16. I have a set of Roland HD1 which I use, and after trying a few different kits I found the sensitivity and feel of the Roland stuff to be just that little bit better than the competitors. The HD1 has long since been surpassed by Roland, but I’d still be towards their kit if I wanted something new.
  17. Intro to Iron Man 2, up until he starts speaking on stage. AC/DC ftw. Also Independence Day for the rumbling of the craft when approaching LA, because a well setup system is about subtlety as well as power.
  18. If you have anything on there that wasn’t on there when the car left the factory, it’s a mod. If you didn’t declare it, then there’s the very real risk the insurance company could void your insurance. Admiral are particularly hot on this, too. That said, if you didn’t hit a person or property then they’re unlikely to look into it too much so I wouldn’t worry about it right now. However, this is why I say to always declare everything, because the last thing you want to be worrying about after a crash is whether you’re actually insured or not! I’m puzzled about the wrap though, that’s definitely something they want to know about so I’m very surprised that they didn’t care when you told them. Very odd indeed.
  19. I lost a bit of performance with my Popcharger on a Revup, but it was worth the trade off for me to free up some more noise. Losing 5 bhp is neither here nor there, but extra tingly aural fun is always appreciated But yeah, Alex is right of course. As with anything, you always stick with closed airboxes for performance.
  20. I suspect they're brilliant to drive, and I've love to have a go in one, but those looks... I just don't see the beauty that every one else seems to. The proportions are just all wrong, especially on the back end.
