  1. Can I make an alternative suggestion, one that's perhaps more radical? Ditch the sub-forums altogether. If we had two main forums, National & Local, then a sub forum in each entitled Convoys, we could reach a much bigger market. National meets will sell themselves, you could happily sub forum out each even if you wanted. What I'm talking about helping really is the local ones. If we got REALLY strict on thread titles, this would be very easy to do. I'm thinking something like this: 1. ESSEX - Pub meet at The **** Inn, Tiny Village, 25-4-16 2. YORKSHIRE - Run out across t'moors, Even Tinier Village, 17-7-16 3. SCOTLAND - Haggis eating competition, Hamlet Of Four Men & A Sheep, 3-11-16 ...and so on. Very easy to scan by eye as to events local to you (hell, even the search function would work perfectly with that!), keeps everything so simple, but allows everyone to see what is out there and when. Keep a sub-forum for convoys, with the same naming scheme. If people don't name their threads properly (and they won't!) then it's not too hard for a mod to change. If you want a volunteer mod just for that task, then I'll do it: You can set permissions so I can only mod in that forum and keep me barred from the main mods forum. Biggest issue I can see is with potential meet discussions, but that could be done like so: 1. LONDON - Potential pub meet, June/July 2016? 2. CORNWALL - Drive out, weekend of 23/24 April 2016? Again, a question mark should always be added. Easy as that. I just feel we're not really making the most of the events section, and it's too convoluted for it's own good. So yeah, merge what Grundy said here and I reckon we could sort this out easy.
  2. The 2nd finest M NA engine ever says otherwise. Special very special. Character? Maybe, I'll probably give you that one as that might have been why I didn't buy one. I would say that the M3 has a very strong identity, and part of that appeal is that it's not all shouty shouty. Some folks do want that though, I concede. Not sure I'd ever consider a car because of the owner's club though.
  3. No, I don't get the quote comment. Do I not normally use the quote button then?
  4. So we're going to write the Cayman off because it's lighter, has more power in the 3.4L and handles better? Oooookay. There's reasons not to get the 987C, but I can't say it should be those. M3 weighs the same as a 350Z, has an absolute stonking engine, and one of the best chassis of a generation. Given you're putting the Holden up as well, in every single measurable way the M3 is a superior car. I agree, the 370Z interior kills it for me too. The exterior is lovely, and a shape that was miles before it's time and is now perfect.
  5. Why did that not surprise me Well someone on here has to have good taste
  6. In terms of cars that are just crap, I've never owned a poor car. In terms of a specific car I've had that wasn't very reliable, I guess the MX-5 that rusted away is probably the worst. Still an utterly brilliant car though, I loved it!
  7. I think repeated dosings with a bowl of soapy water (Fairy Liquid is fine) is probably the best way to go. That then sucking it up with your new Vax ( ) is what I would suggest. Ultimately though you may well need to remove the carpet to clean up underneath it, or even replace altogether.
  8. True, but pretty much no-one ever spends money on buying a car to then say actually, it's a pile of crap and I don't like it. Basically people very rarely complain about an item, but they're very quick to complain about a service.
  9. Kanye is next. I hope.
  10. So many other arguably better cars at that price point, it's why I simply couldn't consider a 370 unless you absolutely love the brand. I would certainly drive the Cayman and M3 at the very least.
  11. Take the finance out with someone else, must be a better way.
  12. It's Silverstone. It's April. Of course it's going to rain! Car looks good
  13. I would stop letting others top up for you, and start weekly checks of the level on a definitive surface. It doesn't have to be perfectly flat, but it does have to be consistent so you get an equivalent measure every time.
  14. Given the low interest rates right now, any reason you haven't just been and bought the Tesla already? Given you've managed to save £4K a month, you could've put half that on the Tesla monthly payment and still been massively comfortable.
  15. It's 1L/1KM, but yes you're correct that's within tolerances. Which I think is utter bobbins. Porsche use the same spec for their engines, and that's utter bobbins too.
  16. There's no way they could know, tbh. I'm assuming you don't do any oil level checks yourself to back this up? Just run the car as usual, and check the level after every couple of hundred miles, you'll soon know if it's burning it. You can't really fit a HR to a DE, it would cost more than the car is worth as it's not a straight forward swap.
  17. I did the maths based on those sums, and I worked out I could get a 1.6 Focus and run that for just an extra £23 a week. Or the price of a good takeaway, if you will. Proper engine, gearbox and noise. Obvious dig aside, that's a great write up. It's far more honest about the car and the use of it than you've been before, and it's a much better read for it. The para on the long distance was spot-on, and whilst I might say that because it clearly aligns with my own views, it also comes across as wonderfully honest. When you say plug in at home, how is this done? Assuming not via a regular 3-pin plug as you did on the farm!
  18. There are some things in life I worry about. There are other things that I don't. Having emissions that are exceptionally good on an MOT would go into the latter camp, and would never be thought about again.

Sounds like your Dad didn't go to the right garage. If the repair was that cheap, then it would never have been a write off,
