  1. IPT up 2% though, so higher premiums for all next year. Again. Fuel duty will never go up again until we're a good 5 years clear of money issues, it's an absolute vote-loser for the working and middle classes, and we all know what voting power they've got these days
  2. I'd rather be slow in a 350 than fast in a FRS. I've driven some monstrous things on track, but nothing was as fun as my shitty old mk1 MX-5 that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, and going sideways round Anglesey in the glorious sunshine. No chance you're doing that in FWD. Trouble is, FWD does understeer by default. That's just what it does. It does cheap engineering, it does bags of space in the boot, it does open interior because no propshaft, but it doesn't do big skids and slidey-slidey fun tiems. I enjoyed our 182 while we had it, but I'd never want FWD as my only fun car. That'd be like only ever being able to eat a plain burger and never sample a Big Tasty.
  3. See, that doesn't sound fun to me. I don't want to win at trackdays, I want to have a play and feel the car working beneath me. I don't want to nail it as fast as I can on the roads and not feel like I'm near the limits, as that either means I have no idea where the limits are (dangerous) or I need to substantially up the pace or pick straighter roads (not much fun either). For a family car to do the shopping in, sure FWD is fine as it's cheap. For something to improve the driving experience, then the rear wheels have to be driven at a minimum.
  4. Now I know that's a lie, since they only did 7 seasons
  5. £20 is a fair price, I'll take them off your hands. Do you want to PayPal me the money, or send it by cheque?
  6. <3 DS9 so very, very much. Best series of ST for me, by far.
  7. How many times do you see an aggressively driven FWD car lifting a rear wheel on high speed corners? Now imagine if that car had a wing pushing the rear downwards, how much better balanced would it be? Hatch, coupe, saloon, doesn't matter: What does matter is the angle and location of the wing, but that's equally true for RWD cars. With FWD you're balancing the vehicle, as opposed to pushing the rear down for grip onto the driven wheels with RWD. If you're cornering at 100mph airflow doesn't give a hoot what wheels are driven, it only cares about playing silly buggers with dynamics. If you found that you couldn't steer at that speed, then something was massively wrong with your setup. BTCC alone proves this: [
  8. Wings do have a positive effect on FWD cars. It's a myth that they don't.
  9. Marvellous, thanks bud. Rear ARB sounds like the exact same thing I had on the 350 when I fitted the lower Summit braces to the back end first, so good to know. I know what you mean about them being too complete. I drove our one on the back roads at serious pace the other day, and there was nothing else I could've been in that would've gone any quicker at all. Apart from one slight understeer/oversteer/understeer/f*ck it just add power moment, it was manic but not hugely rewarding. That's why I keep the BMW around and why I want an Elise too, to be able to feel what's going on.
  10. No reason not to allow a RWD car to move around on the roads, but there's a time and a place. I can't say it's any better having a FWD scrabble wagon trying to understeer into a hedge...
  11. Ooooooh now I'm going to pick your brains How did you find the car after fitting the BC suspension, and the Whiteline ARBs? How many miles did the car have on the clock beforehand? Did you do it all at the same time, or at different times? Only asking as they're the exact bits of kit I want to fit to ours next year, so I'm very keen to find out details from someone that's done it already.
  12. Hang on, I'm not sure what your issue is here. I ENJOYED WATCHING TGT. I ALSO ENJOYED WATCHING TG. It was old TG I didn't like. I get they had to play it safe, I'm also disappointed they didn't take a risk and try something fresh. All this nonsense about me not liking new TG or TGT is rubbish, I've no idea where you've got that from. There's bits of both that I don't like, but there's bits I enjoyed very much. Budget definitely isn't irrelevant, it's key to the whole thing. If you're going to produce the same quality content, then why bother travelling anywhere and spending millions more? Like I said, I'm looking forward to the one this week with no cars, that could be genuinely interesting.
  13. I'd like to see her deal with a TV dinner without dribbling all over it first
  14. That's what separates good drivers from poor ones. My nan could probably drive as quick as me in an Astra, but she'd be backwards in a hedge in an Elise. RWD provides a better challenge and a better reward for the more accomplished driver who enjoys feeling a car pushing from the rear, rather than being dragged from the front.
  15. They have a racing driver to time cars. They have a race track. They have celebs (at least TG managed to interview theirs ). This is why I'll give it another shot, as the different location thing and lack of cars may make it into something different. Put it another way, would you expect a car costing seven times as much to be exactly the same as before, or better? I'd be pi**ed if my Micra had the same performance as a GT-R!
  16. Hi We're currently running a Blobeye STi PPP as well, absolutely stunning car. Good luck with the hunt, hope you find a car soon!
  17. Agreed, the few TG episodes were much more enjoyable than the first ones.
  18. So all they adjusted was a bit of front toe? Blimey. Agree with Kyle, that seems excessive on stock. You need to replace the rear bolts anyway if they're seized, so get that done and go from there.
  19. I can enjoy a *decent* hot hatch, but I'd rather an average RWD car than a good FWD car.
  20. Given that GT has seven times the budget of TG, I don't think it would be unreasonable to have expected something a bit different, but there you go.
  21. Because he's posting like a muppet Now, if the thread was "Why do people spend £40K on a new 320D when they could buy a 5 year old M3 for the same money?", then we'd all be happy. But he didn't. So I'm not.
  22. NO YOU CAN'T FFS You've done it again: Chosen a family car designed for five people and put it up against a car that has precisely nothing in common at all! It doesn't work as a meaningful comparison in the slightest. It's like me asking if I should buy a new kettle or a new chefs knife, as until you know what I need it for it's a pointless question PLUS I wouldn't be considering both anyway for the same job. Honestly, how many more times do you want me to spell it out?! Now, go and find two cars WHICH SHARE A TARGET AUDIENCE and we can have a sensible conversation.
  23. Might start using them again then. Good to know, ta.
