  1. I'm guessing because fast road is now in the vernacular, whereas tarmac rally would still sound specialised. Why wouldn't a road car want a tarmac rally setup? To me, that would sound not a million miles away from what you'd want, hugely compliant over firm surfaces that are good to poor in quality, but with a certain amount of compromise in terms of people wanting to go faster.
  2. Why do you think I bought a snotter of a BMW
  3. I owned a 911. That was my dream car. Cost me a fortune, but I got to live my dream. Can't put a price on that, I reckon. Some people have lots of foreign holidays, which you could argue is even more of a waste of money. I prefer to waste my money on things with engines.
  4. I know I'm usually the first to tell people their cars are overpriced, but that seems reasonable. FI at a sensible power, tasteful body mods, and a respray in THE most gorgeous Lotus colour? I really don't think that's a million miles off, especially when you think what Payco was asking for his the other day.
  5. Exactly. Costs a fortune in fuel but makes an awesome noise, worth every penny.
  6. But a bike is so different from a car, which is why most people don't have one. Price is irrelevant, I know I could go faster on a bike for less, but performance isn't the be all and end all.
  7. Definitely compression fittings. Couple of sets of plumber's grips will get those bad boys off.
  8. I buy whatever car I want and f*ck the depreciation or running costs. Life is too short, and I may go out without a penny to my name but I'll still consider it money well spent
  9. Bet the Yanks love it, that's why.
  10. So you're comparing old cars with old technology against a new bike with new technology?
  11. I doubt it's that much though, given that RHD cars are pretty much only ever going to be used here, Japan or Australia. And I can't see someone in Jap or Aus buying a car there and registering it here (or vice versa). Nope, there's no two ways about it, those numbers for McLaren are miles and miles out, which means I'm not sure how far to trust the other figures.
  12. I blame the women of Hull.

    Who will win???

Never knew they had plastic rear screens. They have just gone up in my estimation. But not by much.
  14. McLaren themselves have 16 2016 cars available on their website... Okay, I'll stop now, point made...
  15. There's 46 McLarens from the Sports and Super Sports series from 2016 for sale on PH alone right now. A couple are 0 miles, a couple are LHD, but even ignoring those that's well above the 18.
  16. I highly doubt McLaren only sold 18 cars in the UK last year. They have 6 showrooms, so that would mean they only sold 3 cars per dealer, or one car every four months. I'm sure they're profitable, but they're not that profitable!
  17. No, you'd go anywhere else to get to Amsterdam. Hull truly is the armpit of the world. Apart from maybe Bradford.
  18. No-one ever goes to Hull out of choice.
  19. Why spend all that money loving something you only use half the time? You can still keep something in good condition and use it all the time. You could save your self £10K and just stare at a picture if you just want something pretty to look at

They're awesome. Anything with a plastic rear window is okay by me

I think you're massively overestimating the 370. I think the times may be closer, but the Megane would still win. Rarity is the most pointless reason for owning a car ever.

Both cars were hooned to the limit and beyond, to me. 2 secs is an age on a track like that, just shows how competent the Megane actually is. Never driven a Megane, but if it's anywhere near as much fun as a Clio then I can see why people would buy one over a 370. £10k less, quicker in all conditions, cracking chassis, more practical... Unless you really want the V6 noise, why get a 370? But yes, I'd always choose an average RWD car over a good FWD car too. I prefer my driven wheels at the rear, more fun to play with.
