  1. Also, no GT means no Synchro-Matching-Doobrie. Surely that's the main benefit from a driving perspective over the current Zed? As much as the car has grown on me, it doesn't do enough more or better to justify spending any money on a new one now, especially when they'll probably plummet in value by the end of the year. In a year's time maybe, but not now.
  2. Actually, I'd say he's not far wrong
  3. I disagree. The pressure will be exactly the same regardless of length, as 8psi is 8psi. The difference comes from the fact that the turbo has much more space to fill, hence it'll need more time to fill the pipework so you will have more lag than on a conventional setup. If you're getting a pressure drop of that magnitude, then the turbo is incorrectly sized and can't keep up with the flow of air that is being asked of it, or the wastegate/boost controller is poorly set up. In my experience of turboing cars using aftermarket kits on an MR application, even reducing the intake length from maybe 2m to 1m (going from an IC setup to a CC one) on a GT28R on a 1.8L, the lag time was significantly reduced. Like I said, with a large capacity engine you have far more torque available from lower down so you reduce the feel of the lag, but as the engine size decreases this gap will be far more noticeable. Assuming the turbos are of equal-ish size (which they are given the estimated power outputs), then if one has 3-4 times the length of intake pipe than the other then it also has to have 3-4 times the lag.

Quite possibly. I only tried them on the off chance that they'd even touch a 350Z for track cover since I only knew them through the Lotus guys, but given that even the TD cover alone is worth somewhere near £400-600 I thought that it was a bargain.
  5. The plastic spatula that comes with a George Foreman Grill is your friend here. Number plate adhesive is infinitely more sticky than badge adhesive, and I've always found said spatula, some hot water with car shampoo in and a detailing clay to be the best combination.
  6. How do u discern lag from a dyno???? +millionty It's like when people say that a correctly-sized twin-turbo setup doesn't have any lag, when due to the very nature of the kit it has to. Any rear-turbo kit will have between 3-4 times the lag of a similar front-mount setup due to the increase in pipe lengths.

Big thumbs up from me for these guys and gals Insurance is due on Sunday, had a renewal from Elephant for £950. I'm 29, 10yrs NCB, car garaged, £600 excess, intake + exhaust mods declared but not covered for value, 10K social miles per annum. Spoke to Steve at Richard Eggar after hearing good things about them via SELOC (Lotus club where I'm still a member), and got all mods covered for full value with NO increase in the premium as long as there's no power increase (not hard on the Zed!), 4 track days a year included (either 4 UK or 3 UK + 1 Euro), discount for being an owner's club member AND for doing a Car Limits day with Walshy back in 2004, £400 excess and all for just £770! I vary rarely make posts like this as most people are capable doing the insurance legwork themselves each year, but since RE are a smaller company I'm not sure many people will have heard of them. Not sure how competitive they'd be if you're young and/or have very little/no NCB, but for me they were awesome.
  8. \So? As Rob said, you've got so much more pipework there that no matter what you do with the turbo you will have more lag simply due to the laws of physics. It's a solution that will only ever start to work with very large capacity engines, something which US muscle/sports cars have in abundance. If you fancy waiting about half an hour for the turbo to finally spool then they work well, but if you want something that remains vaguely drivable then there are a million better options out there. IMHO, obviously.
  9. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... *breathes* ...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG! Seriously, that'll lag like an utter bitch due to the length of pipework involved and be horribly undriveable. There's an E60 M5 running around with a twin setup like that which at least has 5L of V10 to try and get it going, and yet I still can't believe it's anything other than utter gash and a way of engineering a problem when we already have an under-bonnet solution.
  10. I thought it was just me going mad!
  11. Exactly, so very illegal on a car made at least 30 years later Sorry matey, didn't read your post properly so that's why I thought you didn't get fined.
  12. Nope, if your black and silver one is the pre-1973 style then that's still illegal and you were lucky not to get the fine.
  13. In all honesty and without trying to sound like a complete sanctimonious tit, a number plate is one of those things that we've all got to have and it's all got to be legit, much like an MOT or insurance. Given that I can't think of one car that looks better with a numberplate, surely it would be better to simply just to suck it up, put a legal one on and stop trying to find a way round the law? If you've already been done by your local police then they know who they're looking for, and I really wouldn't attempt to antagonise them over something as trivial as a plate.
  14. I wait at least a good 30-40 secs before nailing it to the redline ;) Usually about as long as it takes to get me to a piece of road where I can actually enjoy the car, so anywhere between 5-7 mins and then it's dependant on outside temperature (I'll wait a bit longer in this weather). Tbh unless you're running serious power via FI then even 5mins is probably overkill, these engines are pretty strong and meant to be driven.

    jag supercar??

No car company should bother making concepts of any kind for the next 24 months as we know they simply don't have the money to develop them further. They especially shouldn't bother when they look as good as that Jag, as that's just plain cruel.
  16. If in a spin, both feet in. Hit both brake and clutch and hope for the best. If you get the tail wagging a bit on purpose (or even if not) and you're quick/talented enough then you can catch it by steering into the skid whilst maintaining a steady balance on the throttle (don't lift off, you'll simply spin quicker), but for 90% of people my first line usually works as the best way of getting yourself into the least amount of trouble.
  17. If you can pay the debt off quicker than monthly payments but still can't afford to do it in one lump sum, you're better off putting it on a credit card that pays cash back and paying it off over 4-5 months than you are taking out one of the insurer's credit agreements. Thing about AF that I've found in the past is that they will insure anything and everything and usually a good amount cheaper than anywhere else, but you do suffer a bit in regards to customer service. It's up to you whether you're prepared to put up with the ballache of it to save a few hundred quid: I did when I insured a previous car with them, but not so on the Zed.
  18. You can get MS Office for Mac anyway, so no need to dual-boot Windows and all files are cross-compatible. I got an iMac last year to accompany my PC and I love it just as much despite never having used OSX before. The only thing I will say is that you'll need a decent mouse as the bundled one will break within a month or so: It's really a piece of @*!#.
  19. They will ship over here for a further $350, so call it £750 delivered incl. import duty and VAT.

    insurance

Now that's a novel idea ;) Cheers for the heads up, any chance of letting us know who the companies in question are?
  21. It's also very easy to drive a FWD car quickly as if you go too fast you'll simply understeer: Back off the power and you'll regain grip, allowing you to carry on without too much fuss. It takes a lot more confidence to drive fast with RWD as you have to remember that letting off the power is sometimes the worst thing you can possibly do (unless you've done it intentionally ), so it can take a while to really get into the flow with a car. It took me 3 years of driving MR to fully get used to the balance, but only about 6 months to get to the same standard with FR. It's mostly about time, understanding the way grip, power and weight distribution work with RWD, and then applying that to build your confidence up. I don't mean that to sound as patronising as I know it does, it just sums up my experiences with various cars.
  22. There's a RAV4 and a C-Class around here that I've seen, and a few years back they did have a Focus ST170 estate they used to use on the M11 corridor.
  23. As above, get yourself to Just Tickets.
  24. Not sure about the roof lining on the second one, but if they'd used that colour for other parts of the interior it would've looked quite good. I'm not a fan of wood-effect finished either, but the one on that first car does look like a very high quality example of it, and I'm not convinced it actually looks that out of place either.
