  1. You should alter pressure dependant on tyre selection, not size. For example, stock RE040s should be run at 35psi, T1Rs at 37psi (due to the softer sidewalls) and PS2s at 33psi (due to the harder sidewalls). On top of that you've got stuff like the R888s which should be run at daft pressures (27psi!) due to them being able to get very hot and very sticky very quickly.
  2. You'll never get every decision right as you're only human, but the openness and clarity of each decision that the Mods make here are one of the reasons this place is such a success. I for one applaud the way things are done around here, and long may it continue.
  3. Syphon as in proper syphon, or as in drain the tank? He'll be lucky to be able to do the former, I'd expect the Merc to have an anti-syphon system in there at least. If you mean drain the tank and chuck it in yours, I can't see any reason why not.
  4. PS2s or RE050s. Ultracs, T1Rs and 452s do not have 'great' grip in the dry in my experience, only the first two do. They're all capable tyres for the Zed (the Toyos and Falkens at the budget end and the Vredestiens in the middle) but if you want great dry grip and good wet grip then the Michelins or the Bridgestones have got to be what you're after.
  5. Do we really need any more smilies though? This place already has loads which never get used, and I never find myself saying anything that requires a smiley we don't have. All that would happen is that they'd get over used to death in the first week, then never used again.

    Tyre problems

I wouldn't drive anything on cracked tyres, let alone a performance car.
  7. Damn shame Dave, you've been a very good Mod on here over the years I've been here. Thanks for all your hard work and effort in that time
  8. That's because it was designed for power steering, so when it goes it's always much heavier. I've been driving a friend's '79 928 which is very much like the Zed (albeit 200kg lighter) and it felt so much more alive in your hands, and that's on old tech! It's just a personal thing, I agree that for 99% of people power steering is the best solution.
  9. Didn't pre-Revup/HR cars not have speed sensitive steering? Or am I just imagining that up? FWIW I wish the steering was a bit heavier at times, as I'm not overly fond of power assisted steering on a sports car. It'd be nice if it was switchable really... *wonders off pondering if it's possible*
  10. Import cars can use either their original size plates or UK ones, UK cars have to have a UK size plate afaik. Been like that for while I think, but check the current VOSA MOT regs to be sure.
  11. Not legal but I'd be amazed if anyone ever picked up on it. Just be aware that you could get hit with the usual fines for running one.
  12. Rolling road or trackday will tell you.

    TAX!

We should get a Car Tax forum somewhere on this board I reckon. It'd probably be the busiest one out of them all!
  14. For fear of repeating myself yet again, you have to give them reasonable opportunity to make good any repairs. That's not my words, that's what the law says, so do that first and if they don't fix the issues then you will have some kind of recourse via the court system. If you march in and demand your money back they are (quite rightly) going to tell you to naff off. Please try searching the interweb for this kind of information, it really is all over the place. Tbh the amount of people who go to S2K4U, moan about the lack of knowledge AND the crappy customer service and then still go on to buy a car really puzzles me. If someone's being an arse when I'm trying to give them money they're not going to be any better afterwards, so I just wouldn't give them my money in the first place.
  15. Yeah, that. Jump through the legal hoops first so that there is no comeback on you, and if you still get nowhere then speak to a solicitor and take it from there.
  16. You have to give them reasonable oppurtunity to make good any repairs. They won't.
  17. Very unlikely it's been clocked IMHO. Is the mileage stored in the ECU or the dash clocks?
  18. Google for them, there's hundreds of bad experiences out there across many forums sadly.

    R888s

Cost isn't too much of an issue for me with tyres, I'd rather spend money on them than on things that make the car look prettier Same reason I went with the PS2s originally, I want the best rubber I can possibly afford for the car, as that's where there's so much gain to be had. They're cheaper than the PS2s as well!
  20. S20004U sell @*!# cars as a rule, and sadly I think you've got one Good luck getting anything out of them, personally I'd consider it a hard lesson learnt in doing research about garages before buying.
  21. Exhausts don't last 5 mins anyway, and the Zed can eat clutches. Tbh probably nothing to worry about, what does the service book and MOTs tell you about the mileage? What about the interior wear, especially the drivers seat bolster?

    R888s

Exactly what I was thinking too. Already got plans for uprated ARBS and some droplinks won't be far behind, but I didn't want to shell out just yet in case the tyres aren't entirely to my liking on the Zed and I go back to the PS2s. Interesting to see how low you set the pressures, gives me a good idea for a baseline to start on mine.
  24. But surely they gave you a price breakdown when you ordered it? Granted, when ordering a high-price car I guess you're a bit less sensitive to the cost options (especially with Porsche), but you surely wouldn't just order a car and leave a deposit without actually checking what you pay for? Dunno, might just be me.
