  1. But is that because of the racing or the coverage? I'm quite partial to watching the BTCC too when I remember it's on, but I would say it's good in spite of the coverage, not because of it.
  2. Your ranting I actually understand, it's more the reaction of others that makes me chuckle. Not specifically referring to anyone on here or even here in particular, more across the entire interwebs.
  3. I quite like how everyone is so keen to slag off Sky's coverage when there's a 50% chance it'll be better than what the BBC currently produce. When have Sky ever screwed up coverage of any sport they've broadcast? I can't think of a single one, and I've been watching Sky since 1992. The reason they are so very successful isn't because we're all mindless sheep who follow wherever the money is, it's because they're actually very, very good at what they do. Leave your political/anti-Murdoch/anti-capitalist feelings at the door and you'll see just how much richer the current selection of television programming is for their existence.
  4. It's worrying how many people feel they have to justify the car they bought to other people, never mind like-minded enthusiasts.
  5. Jake will stay with the BBC as he wants to do the Olympics, so that's him tied for another year at least. Brundle will probably leave as his contract is up anyway, hopefully taking DC with him. EJ will stay with the BBC though, he likes the freedom it gives him.
  6. Photos like that make me really miss my old car
  7. Staple a £20 note to the front of the CV. That'll get you noticed. /unhelpful
  8. Viewing figures yes, but not necessarily income. You've now got two broadcasters paying instead of one, and that will offset any drop in sponsorship money. Viewing figures will likely be very impressive for the first year at least whilst people try Sky out, and it may lead to a new audience that otherwise wouldn't watch the Beeb coverage. I agree that last bit is unlikely as I can't think for a second where they would come from, but F1 as a whole aren't in the habit of making losses. F1 isn't a cheap sport, and by the very nature of it the fans tend to have spare cash (not all though, obviously). If they're passionate about the sport they'll more than likely shell out for Sky, so I'm not sure just how much of a drop it'll be. If it's about 50% it'll be a good deal.
  9. He said it needs to stay for the sponsors to keep shelling out loads of cash. The BBC can't afford the F1 and FOTA have a ton of very expensive changed to make to the cars over the next couple of years, and this is the best way to ensure that F1 as we know it carries on. FOTA wanted a much bigger share of the pie this time round and for Bernie to carrying on making the same profit as before he needs the extra cash to come from somewhere.
  10. +1 BBC coverage of F1 is superb, but compare BBC football with Sky football: Night and day. If Sky can bring that level of quality to F1 then I'm all for it. Okay, so I've got the full Sky package anyway so it won't effect me in the slightest, but I still say it's a good thing rather than a bad one. Sky excel in their sports coverage and know exactly how to produce a fantastic package, and whilst it might not have the character of the BBC programming it will certainly be a very slick and professional programme.
  11. Another handy hint I pinched the other day: When waiting at a roundabout behind traffic, don't look for the gap. Instead, keep your vision fixed on the car in front until they're actually on the roundabout itself, and then look for space to progress. This completely removes any risk of running into the car in front because you thought they were going to go but didn't I've been trying it myself recently and it actually makes no difference to making progress, as it only takes a really quick glance to see if the roundabout is free or not.

Thanks for all your hard work on here James
  13. But that involves actually going into Iceland, which is just the most vile chav-ridden scum hole I've ever been into. Never, ever again.
  14. 19 years old? Tbh I'd consider that good mileage and start looking for a replacement. However, how many PCBs does the boiler have? Sometimes there's more than one, although I suspect that any engineer worth his salt would've checked for this before giving up. It's almost always a PCB error and I've changed my one twice when it was having an issue with firing.
  15. To alter the question slightly, what if I was doing bang-on 30 (as I do) and the kid had stepped out and I'd run him down, would I still tell her it was the child's fault? Of course I wouldn't, but you can bet your ass I'd be screaming it in my head. If that's the kind of patronising crap they give you at these meetings, then I'm glad I'm on the right side of the law as I'd go batsh*t crazy at ridiculous examples like that. The rest of it sounds pretty sensible though, in fairness.
  16. No chance, not if you're intending on driving home on them afterwards. If you're going to take them and swap them, then as Was8v says they'll be fine.
  17. This but is utter b*llocks. If the kid had looked before crossing the f***ing road, then he would have seen the f***ing car and not been run over in the first f***ing place!!! Sorry, but stuff like that boils my ****. Teach kids to use the road properly instead of assuming that every car driver is a menace (even if she clearly was stupidly speeding in this case).

Still not passed the custard test though Looks a lovely example fella, really pleased for you
  19. Not really. I don't give a stuff about the millions of people starving in Africa because I don't know them, but I feel bad if a mate can't meet us down the pub because he's got a cold. We all read about the Winehouse loads over the years so feel like we know her, but we don't know a single thing about Private Dad Soldier apart from his job. It's all about making connections with people, and it's how relationships are formed on a social level more than all humans are bad because we care more about X than Y. Don't sweat it, I don't
  20. But he wasn't famous. Another dead soldier doesn't sell papers, one multi-million selling artist dying does. No-one's saying that it's right, but that's life and there's no point getting upset over it.
  21. If parts are £150 then you'd need to be selling for around £200, which tbh isn't outrageous for what you're getting, it's a lot of money for something that has no official connections at all. With a very spare £200 I don't think it would put me off, but as a mass market idea it's going to be very limited. I'd probably give it a go regardless as you've got zero initial outlay, and if people go for it then great but if not you haven't lost out. The other idea would be to sell the instructions themselves...
  22. I guess I'd pay £20-£30 for a set to build myself, however I suspect that they must cost significantly more than that in parts alone.
