My work offers this scheme but I was under the impression it was a 12 month hire agreement and at the end of the 12 month period you could buy the bike from your company at market value. At least thats what it says on the government website. Sounded like a duff deal to me so i didn't bother. R Thats basically correct but the "market Value" is a mere 5% of the purchase price, so it's basically the same as your monthly payment. If you are in the sub< £38k tax bracket like most of us, you save about 30-40% on the RRP.

Cycle to work scheme is tops, but I won't qualifiy till next year in my current job. boo! Mind you, the £1000 won't even buy the frame of the bike i want! They're usually heavier, lose capacity over time, and are expensive to make in terms of resources. Porsche have a flywheel unit in one of their development racers, but what you save in weight, you lose having to convert the energy twice, from mechanical to electical, and back to mechanical again. Much prefer the lotus solution of a reletively small engine purely driving a generator to turn the wheel motors, near constant rpm and low fuel consumption, but with fancy torque vectoring and that max torque from standstill capability of straight electrical drive. A sports car is a car designed to be pleasurable to drive, all other considerations like practicality and running costs are secondary! Preferably more cylinders than wheels. (although there are a few exceptions - elises, caterhams etc..) I know you get FWD sports cars, but i'd rather mine weren't!
