I used to love Imprezas and if anyone asks me today what my favourite car is that I've ever owned I would have to say it was one of my Scoobies. I've owned two, I liked them that much. The first I had in 1997, it was a 96-year UK car with the full Prodrive kit on it (wheels, suspension, interior, engine upgrade) and the second I had in 1998. I imported a brand new WRX STi Type-R Coupe (which was the base for the UK's P1 variant). Owning this in 1998 when I was only 21/22 was pretty much perfect and is definitely the most fun I've had in a car on the Queen's highway. Problem is, now I've turned 30 (OK I'm 32 later this year ) I just couldn't bring myself to even consider getting another one. 10 years ago they were cool, they were rare, ownership brought you admiration and there was nothing else like them on the roads (Evo's were just as rare and I could eat Escort Cossie's for breakfast). Now, in 2008, they have become the definitive Chav motor and when people see them they turn their noses up in disgust. Its a great piece of machinery that has sadly become a victim of its own success.
I wouldn't drive one in public now if it was given to me free... and the STi is still the best car I've owned (at the time I owned it).
RIP Subaru
