Whilst sorting out the spare (junk) bedroom, I found this old copy of Banzai from August 2009. Contains an article about the club and coincidentally pic of my old zed (Dino), Marzman, me and Lucy (my other half). Must have been one of the last Wales trips we did before parenthood took over. Happy days nice memories.

370z Replacement in testing at the 'Ring
stanski replied to 350Butcher's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Whatever do you mean its probably a special 370z edition model they are offering, after the last poor anniversary edition, drilling holes in the front makes it a little more hardcore, although Zedmanalex did this at least 10 years ago, so there is nothing new under the rising sun (see what I did there!) Whatever they do it will no doubt be based on the current Duke styling elongated and some weird vents installed, but really an infiniti q60 coupe with a zed style dress? What I always liked about infiniti was the hybrid electric power models weren't there to save baby rabbits from pollution but to boost the power! -

Do you mind? That's my best Cambridge boating blazer! I have since discovered electric toothbrushes and fancy toothpaste.

Erm very random, is your way to avoid congestion charges or build a cool ride on mower with attitude!

Re Porsches they might handle well etc and look pretty but the 2 Caymens my other half had were nothing but trouble, exposing how cheaply made they were. I know the Caymen saved their bacon but the first one Caymen S (2007) had engine issues, window winder mechanism failed, radio playing up, the second revised shape Caymen (2010) had a cable snap for the gear linkage ,cable ?? In a car like that with a crappy plastic fitting that fell to bits leaving her beached in the outside lane of a motorway slip with no way to move. There were a lot of other issues which just highlighted how it was almost built to cost, reliant on the badge to keep the price high. She wont touch another again! I hope they have resolved all of those kinds of things in the new shiny ones?

Sorry for all the Ev posts but VW have jumped on the volks-wagon now and did what I will do to mine (one day!) Good idea, like the flip up tail light power feed, but whats wrong using the original petrol flap at the front? Plus all the mud gets thrown up in that wing area. Not sure why they needed to wrap the runnerboards around and make them fatter, maybe to cover the extra battery packs? If you look at vw's press site you will find more pictures not least the UP engine and controller. Sheesh its huge! If you look at the zelectric and other classic conversions its just got the washing machine motor , controller and empty engine bay this thing is almost as big as the old engine? I shall expect stupid prices for this conversation. Just have to wait for the tech to drop in price. 5 years I recon. https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-germancars/vw-e-beetle-on-the-way-to-frankfurt/40898

I have to agree however strangely manufacturers are still bringing out large engined stuff , just look at piston heads and top gear. Although they aim at the higher richer market segment. Its also nice to see Mazda continuing to develop petrol engines and rotary engine. Nissan on the other hand , their main customer base is SUVs , bread and butter stuff like Micras and the other end GT-R , thats it. Everything else in between is niche or on hold whilst they decide how to handle electrification ? I expect others are the same? I still hope for a new Zed but even VW dropped the Beetle their iconic car.

Problem with these designs is scale half the time? They generally are smaller than you imagine and lose that wow factor impact on the street? Its ok the front looks a bit Peugeot-esq cross with RX8 and the back with the current infiniti q60 coupe? Although over all its ok , its not really that ground breaking or exciting stylewise. The second part is the interior, the concept will look fab but then the accountants get involved so we end up with a watered down version of their current range. The Honda ev concept for example was superb, yet the production version looks a bit toned down . We wanted those massive alloys!!

Strangley like this one!! Got to love beige however its very knightrider isnt it! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201905298445716?atmobcid=soc3

The art of a good photographer! Lets see what its like on Saturday.

We are back on Saturday to Leeds will take a proper look and see if I can see inside? Not that I will be buying one anytime soon, happy with the Stang, although it does look very dated compared to all the futuristic Lexi (plural to Lexus)?
-
I just wasn't that impressed especially with all the fanfare around it? Maybe as it was a dull day and it was in a dark blue colour? Like I said its probably superb engineering but just didnt do anything for me? Must be an age thing. I'll get my cocoa!

We nipped to Lexus Leeds to look at a replacement M2 for the other half, whilst there, (next door is Toyota) and sure enough a Supra at the front of the showroom. Sadly didn't get a chance to go in and take a look, sit in it, but honestly , underwhelming car. I only noticed it being a petrolhead that I am on the way out. Its teeeeny weeeny , 1990s style wheels you could probably buy cheap off ebay. The front just looks so boring, again 1990s . Yes I get it they are trying to recreate their 90s heyday. Its like Toyota version of an old 90s raver , still thinks he is cool but is bald fat and looks like Daddy pig. Aceeeeed...... Shame. I am sure it handles well and everything else and is no doubt a piece of exceptional engineering, you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it so to speak. Ironically the Z4 stands out more.

Exactly. Lets be honest we are a bunch of old school nutters driving (or former drivers) of a 70s inspired Datsun in a world of generic bland machines that no doubt will run rings around it. Although its good Nissan kept the old barge alive, they could have really tried to make it a bit special, come on 50 years is a big landmark? Missed opportunity, lack of funds I expect but some naff stick on graphics thats it? Anyway onto the next model...

If there was ever a way to show you cant be fussed, or worse a nissan accountant has decreed, we have no money in the pot to do anything but get some vinyl stickers from ebay, that will do for now. Its a warmed pizza up from the night before isn't it, just so you get your moneys worth. Surely would have cost them peanuts to stick a spoiler on the back, dump the springs a bit, put a variable valve exhaust, and just do 'Something!!' with the interior, even if its a nice pale pallet of colours ? Cream/pale grey maybe, anything to drag it out of the edwardian funeral parlour. Does it have a Dab radio yet?

Is there really no service cost for an Ev? Being naive here do they have 'normal brakes' still or just the regen ones? Surely they have bearings that wear out and steering and some sort of cooling system for the drivetrain? Presume its going to be a check the tyres, check the software, top up washer bottle and offski you go? I agree that if the UK went fully renewable green tomorrow it would make sod all difference to the world, whilst everyone else is still pumping crap out, not least the energy involved to mine for the minerals and ores required to manufacture the batteries and other components unique to EVs ,then ship them and the finished cars around the world in cargo ships powered by sails? Ooh hang on no diesels.... Its good to see peoples opinions on this thread and yes the press does seem to focus on either end of the spectrum, bad and good about EV, rather than a more down to earth review, which only people who own these cars today can really do, because they face the issues not mentioned in press articles and also ways around them by planning and common sense. Sadly I will always be a petrolhead and as much as I accept the EV eventuality I do feel sorry for kids who have never or will never experience what we did growing up with the stinky gas guzzlers with all their foibles yet great fun at the same time. Being able to drive how we choose and not having some stupid computer telling us the slightest deviation from the expected route. Welcome to 1984 Mr Orwell would be proud ( rather than 1984 Duran Duran, big hair etc...)

Colin I have to agree. I hate touch screens or those Audistylie fake speedos! Yes they look pretty but are we all really 12 years old and need to be entertained the entire time(like their chavvy flash and swipe indicators) sorry off topic! What we need is a V6/V8 engine to charge the battery and some huge electric motors to pull the skin off your eyelids when you put the foot down. They have this self charging lark the wrong way round haha! I dont really like voice control probably because of my northen eee by gum accept the voice woman dunnneee understand meee... I am old fashioned I want a proper button even a knife switch will do. Tech luddites please make a line here.

The daily mail is always correct because it uses hard facts from Wikipedia!

I am just wondering how we will be able to sue the fire service, ambulance or police for not turning up because they either had to stop for a 30.min charge of their vehicles, or not turn up at all.
