1. My clutches last over 100K on every car I've owned. Its all down to how you drive. That said it does sound like something faulty in the clutch. Maybe (in other words I'm guessing) some clutch plate contamination or a localised problem on the pressure plate?
2. I Hope these pictures work, the weather is <ahem> variable here at the moment Wheels: Worst dent, any others are only tiny: "] Worst scratch, any others are small stone chips: "] KTA Gear Knob
3. I love my 350Z, never have I had a better car. Sadly the time has come for it to go as it's not the car for towing and plugging through muddy fields which is what I'm going to be having to do soon. 04 plate GT, Manual, in Azure Blue. Entry level pricing for some very lucky buyer. 168K miles, all spent cruising up and down the M1 and A1 over the last 6 years. There is nothing gentler on an engine than unstressed cruise control, hence everything is in perfect working order with no clunks, whistles creaks rattles or other such stuff. The engine is a strong as an ox and pulls like one too. The gearbox is smooth, no notches or crunches, every gear slots in perfectly. As you might expect from a forum owner, it has full service history (really!) with the most recent service on Tuesday 7th October 2014 so everything is good for another 9,000 miles. MOT until March 31st 2015 Receipts for every part fitted over 6 years so you can be sure everything is replaced that should be, if it needed to or not I really have taken the best mechanical care of this car and it's ultra smooth and reliable. As you will also expect, 10 years old and 168K on the motorway has given its fair share of chips. The odd car park door ding and scratch has happened over its life too. The Rays alloys are good but have some bubbling and chewing around the rims in some places but when clean its not too noticeable. This is what you should expect on an older car and do not be surprised - it is nothing major and the body and wheels clean up nicely but it is not perfect. It is all easily and relatively cheaply fixable if you have the time but I don't have the time and this is to your benefit as the car is priced accordingly. Now the interesting bits. 2 keys. Brand-new (<3K miles) Vredstein Sessanta tyres all round. 20mm wheel spacers for a better wheel arch fill. These look great. Serviced last week. Regular 4-wheel alignment done also. Oil pressure is very strong further showing the strength of the engine. 45-60psi at tickover when cold dropping to 30-45psi on hot tickover. Genuine Japanese 5Zigen Pro-Racer exhaust with blue-tips. Wonderful sound, but never too noisy (very expensive new!)- a gentle burble when cruising, a raw-throated roar when you plant your foot. Cobra y-pipe. Lighter and less restrictive than the standard exhaust y-pipe. EBC yellow stuff brake pads approx <8K miles KTA engraved stainless steel gear knob. K&N Panel filter and cold air intake slot (see front of car) KW V1 suspension. Currently set at 15mm lower to avoid speed bumps but is widely adjustable. Firdenza Lightweight Clutch & Flywheel. This lighter operation means faster rev pick-up for a better throttle response. The flywheel has a replaceable face so you never need to by a new full unit. 5/16 plenum spacer. A common fitting used to ensure all cylinders get equal airflow for best power. The car has been rolling road mapped and tuned to make the best of the added parts. Bose ICE has the 2.5mm jack feed so you can attach any device with a headphone socket (iPhone, MP3 player etc). Original fitted Nissan hands-free phone bluetooth unit. Fashionable stubby aerial Did I mention it drives like a dream? You will not be disappointed. To avoid us both being disappointed, you must have comprehensive insurance cover arranged if you want to test drive the car. Viewings available in central Newcastle upon Tyne (3 minutes walk from the train station or I can collect you). Please send a personal message or feel free to ask any questions. Price £3,995 OVNO. An exceptionally cheap price for such a great car!
4. Sticking brake pad. I'll bet you will find the pad well crusted into the calliper.
5. Are you kidding? They can barely get a decades-old system working, much less something which relies on modern technology! You have far too much faith in the DVLA, young padawan Funnily enough I've been working with the DVLA in a two-steps removed sort of way regarding some of their computer systems - and you are right. Any HMG computer system is a mess in my opinion.
6. Apologies if this has been listed before but its a valid point. Currently if you sell your car mid-month you only get a refund of duty from the end of that month. The buyer also has to purchase theirs from the start of the month they buy in. Buyer and seller are out of pocket and HMG get paid twice for the same month. Now everything is computerised there is no reason why this duty can't be paid on a daily basis - in fact it's archaic that it still operates on a monthly system. This petition isn't explicit about the advantages of moving away from the old month system but some other options could be made possible, such as buying a set number of days in advance rather than a full 6 months or a year. Anyway, if you agree with the basic idea that you should not be penalised for selling or buying a car mid-month then please consider supporting this petition. https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/70266
7. Price seems fair but if you polish it up it will sell more easily GLWTS
8. From experience I had the same issue and it was a fluid leak. In my case the pipes around the cooler had given up. Normally the steering was fine then a sudden heaviness then ok again, presumably when a hittinga bubble and loosing some pressure. It I topped up the fluid and did a lock-to lock test a few times it was fine again for a while - until the level dropped again. Your fluid should not be lower than the minimum level when stone cold so that's a good time to check it. Also take a look at the colour as murky fluid means its not happy. Check the engine tray at the front and the pipes and rack for sticky messes, although it can be only a small weep that lets the levels drop.
9. A bit late maybe, but yes. The 6 is one step harder (hotter) than the 5 on a NGK plug http://www.ngk.com/learning-center/article/225/heat-range-conversion-chart
10. It may seem a strange question to ask given I'm not actually intending to make this mod, but has anyone on the forum tried one of the rear mounted single turbo kits? I know one worry is the lag, and another the exposed oil line, but some real-world feedback would inform my inquisitive mind Incidentally I have seen a much older post about this but still no-one who has tried it in the UK or specifically on this forum? http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/18364-rear-mounted-turbo/page__st__40
11. Google it. You don't have to pay legally. Only the council and police can give legally enforceable fines. All they can claim in court (which they will never bother to do) is the cost of depriving them of the use of that portion of their land for the time, which is pennies. Ignore, or if you don't want to ignore google will give you some stock letters.
12. I have to vote for (2) as the others have stretched tyres Not that I mind as its a damn fine looking car actually doing something car-like
13. I do stuff like this but I'm a tad more than a quick drive away. Yes you can get a cheap telly anywhere but it depends how good yours is. If its over £400 to replace its rather obviously worth doing. I wrote you some top tips but after checking the comments on the youtube vid and realising that you managed to electrocute yourself trying them, I thought better of it. I don't want to be responsible for you finishing yourself off properly next time Take it to a repair shop (yes they do still exist)
14. If you have cleaned the throttle body and changed the MAF you should perform the idle relearn procedure. That should do the trick - unless you have a leak
15. 165K and 10 years old and all is well on mine. For that matter its the original battery too. If it aint broke don't mess with it
16. I'm not sure that's entirely true. Yes it is good to have a reliable income and the practicality is that, for an individual, small regular payments are better, but the odd big boost of cash is useful for a charity too. For example, many research projects last a number of years and are very expensive. To have a boost of cash means that you can commit to projects over many years knowing that you will be able to pay for them and that the project you choose can be of a level higher and more ambitious (i.e. expensive) than perhaps you would have felt able to commit to before. Charities would love £1M a year reliable income for 10 years for sure, but having a £10M lump sum in the bank instead is as secure as it gets On the subject of the cold water challenge, here is one Australian perspective: https://www.youtube....h?v=nWe4ds6ATJc.
