Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48
Darren-B replied to Darren-B's topic in Other Cars
Well my brother is dropping the wheels off for tyres tomorrow & this evening I managed to fit the shocks & re-assemble the front suspension. Also I removed the oem air box & got these babies fitted I know it's probably more efficient with the stock intake, but `i don't care, once the engine bay is refreshed these will look so much cooler Hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to give it a little tune up, check the gaps, timing, sync the carbs & adjust the fuelling if necessary. -

The bushes won't be done until the back to metal strip down as they are likely to need doing again if I'm let loose with the sandblasting gun -

Your always going to have a short service life with any filter on a SC'd car, as the amount of air being filtered it much more than of a NA or turbo'd car. All the time the engine & SC is spinning it's drawing air through the filter, most of it is dumped through the blow off when your not using WOT. That standard GTM setup for stage 0 or 1 is probably the best setup for longevity as there are 2 filters giving a much greater surface area for filtration over a single filter like the one I used on my stage 1.5 setup where the filter is located alongside the bell housing of the gearbox. (a much dirtier area) Unfortuneately Pete I think this is just a price your going to have to pay for having a modified car. If you keep the revs low when not hooning it the service life of the filters will be much greater as there will be far less air being drawn through the filters.

Yeah Yeah Yeah keep going, just watch out as you might wake up one morning to find your zed completely stock Well this evening I decided to pop out to the garage & remove a few bits from the car in anticipation of a small delivery tomorrow So front wheels removed, brake callipers removed, suspension strut, hub removed then the springs compressed & removed, finally the shocks pulled out of the casings. Left hand side literally fell straight out but the right was a bit tough. Had to replace the spring with a scaffold tube them bolt it down onto the strut in order to pull the shock out, bit of a pain but has saved me some time for when the goodies arrive -

I must say after driving your 370z yesterday I love the TT setup, it was worth every moment we spent building it, maybe we can swap once you get your tune done -

Well I have now covered just over 200miles in the old girl, I can see this strip down & rebuild being delayed somewhat. The car is an absolute joy to drive, took a little drive out to RT Performance yesterday to help out SOB (Octet) with his TT 370 build. Really can't fault the car, both motorway & city driving, it's spot on. Although I did find out that one of the fuel tank breather pipes is a little perished as I had a little leak when I brimmed the tank. Thankfully Octet was on hand with his hose to syphon out the excess fuel -

This must be the most awesome build I've been a part of. The car is truly unique. Sounds amazing now, wish I had gone down the turbo route with my 370z now. Oh well if that 2jz supra is left at RT much longer I might do a little swap with the 240 -

Well what an awesome car the 240z is :teeth: such a great joy to drive. I'm glad I got the car on the road prior to tearing it apart as it's given me a chance to get to know the car a little. It drives exceptionally well for a 43yr old, other than the front shocks being a little tired & the wheel alignment not being perfect after changing the steering gators theres only a few little bits that need to be addressed: -The boot hatch is moving around in it's guides making an annoying squeaking sound -The heater is blowing out lots of dust, leaves & other crap, it's also hot all the time. Other than that all is good, the engine is sweet, loads of torque, the clutch was still slipping in 5th at first but after a while it seems to have stopped. Another thing I noticed is that women love it #Adrian, I'll see you in the morning, -

It is showing it's age, just not full of holes I wanted a good base to start with. Having nearly all standard parts saves a lot of money trying to source things like door cards, trims etc. Just about to go for my first proper drive now I have the plates 4 things I hope not to need: Tools jump leads tow rope breakdown cover -

Don't use washing powder on fabric seats, I learn't this on the Leon, every time it gets a bit damp the seats become covered in white stains, it's either the washing powder I used or something the previous owner had done all over the car -

Quick update: So stripped out the rear interior the other day Looking a bit yellow & discoloured with age So after a gentle rub down & clean with some alcohol based solvent I gave them a refresh Before & after Need to make a replacement panel for the boot lid as it's warped & has a tear in the vinyl. Need to re-fix the chrome strips & awaiting for some new white panel rivets (blinking hard to come by) Still a bit disappointed that I haven't found any rust holes yet -
