Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48
Darren-B replied to Darren-B's topic in Other Cars
Thanks Colin, although some may disagree, I have never been truly happy with the finish on either of my previous zeds so this one is going to be exactly how I want it -
that is the correct position, the markings are for when you release the belt by inserting a 3/8 wrench & turning anti clockwise until the two holes align. then insert an M6 bolt or something similar to lock the tensioner off whilst you change the belt. There is no adjustment on the tensioner. If your hearing a 'whiring' noise there is possible a spun bearing on one of the pullies, but with your mileage I would think that is highly unlikely

Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48

I got a little more done today. carbs, exhaust manifold, fuel lines & the remaining gaskets changed Then filled it up with oil & turned it over a few times to ensure all he oil lines were clear. Everything seems to be in order & I have a steady flow of oil coming through all the cam lobes Unfortunately I can't yet install the alternator & AC pump as my extra supports are in the way. So will have to put them on when it comes to installation which is certainly a long way away -

Or shall I just come down on Sunday to pick it up? -

Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48
Darren-B replied to Darren-B's topic in Other Cars
Little update: Unfortunately I didn't achieve as much as I want to over the xmas holidays due to unforeseen circumstances I did however get the rear suspension re-assembled with new bushes, wheel bearings, shocks, springs & SS nuts & bolts Went for some eccentric bushes as per the front in order to get the geo where I want it Also got to work with stripping off the sound deadening inside the car & then the outside This has been a very long & painful process 4no. 25litre buckets of crap has come off so far & I'm no where near done, got all the nooks & crannies to do yet. I got a little distracted yesterday when a little package arrived from the US, after travelling around 6kmiles in less than 48hrs it has since been lost in the UK for 3weeks before it made it to me Parcelforce YOU SUCK So this afternoon I un-buried the engine components & got to work with the help of a mate We had a fair bit to do: Camshaft sprocket replaced with new, Crankshaft Sprocket replaced with new, new front & rear oil seals, all new valve stem seals, new timing chain, runners & tensioner. New head bolts. All new gaskets to everything that has a gasket, new water pump, new oil pump, All new studs, new chrome engine bolts, & then to put it all together Timing chain runners being installed Head gasket overlaid onto new alignment dowels & no1 TDC Head overlaid Chain on & timed New water pump installed Timing cover installed with a little Bling (chrome plated bolts ) Head bolts Then torqued after modifying the engine stand to relive the end of the block from some of the weight New oil pump & distributor installled Oil pickup & sump installed along with some more bling, SS hex bolts Then fuel pump installed, filled with oil & turned over a few times by hand to get some oil back in all the lines, silky smooth & nothing made any strange broken type noises I hope to get the rest of it on tomorrow so I can get it stored away -
Accidentally topped up pink coolant with blue coolant????
Darren-B replied to Jake4136's topic in Other Cars
Good reason to flush it out on the Mini -
Count yourself lucky my mate done all 4 on his R8 back in May when we tried to beat his record of 48mph on the train. Looking forward to the videos

Accidentally topped up pink coolant with blue coolant????
Darren-B replied to Jake4136's topic in Other Cars
Get it flushed ASAP I spent around 5hours last weekend unblocking & trying to flush a cooling system on a Corsa where the coolant was contaminated. All the small hoses, throttle body & heater matrix were blocked solid of cork like sludge -
The Nismo goes to Abbey Motorsport for an Uprev
Darren-B replied to Andrew Donnison's topic in 350Z General
Hey, I'm no bully, I'm just looking at what has been gained from the outside. I've been there & done that in the past. Now I just look at it all this tuning of NA cars & wonder if it's even worth bothering with if you haven't already focussed on the handling side -

Plus taking a day off work aswell as the HFC's I'm guessing at around £65-£75 per hp on a nigh on 1600kg car, so an increase of about 7hp/ton for around £700 -

I'm rocking around like I'm still 21 but I have to compromise with driving around in a 43yr old zed -

No it's an addiction, Adrian doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs or even eat meat, not sure he even sees to his wife hence the highly modified car -
I ran Meister-r's on my Mx-5 pretty much on the softest setting to make it drivable with full poly bushing on the car. If I was to go down the MX-5 route again I'd skip the poly bushing if I was contemplating road driving & if going FI would probably go for the same suspension setup as it does help put the additional power down, also really helps if your going to go for sticky tyres. Otherwise if I was going NA I'd probably just put a rollbar (these really stiffen the car up) and some top end budgets with some aggressive pads such as yellow stuffs, then go have some fun
