  1. A long awaited update,

Managed to get all the 'loose' items primed & flatted back, then painted their designated colour. light surrounds, cubby doors, tow hooks, bumper brackets etc

Adrian helped me out with the front grill which is made up of a million pieces

He de-greased, scrubbed & keyed them up ready for paint

They were then hung & etched, followed by a quick coat of high build primer

Also got these finished in Black

Then today I made my own GM paint to match my wheels. Decided to use a water based base coat as I want a satin finish on some of the parts, which means applying a satin lacquer after the base coat. Using a water based base coat is easier as it sprays a lot flatter than the acrylic 2k

Left it to bake for a couple of hours then a nice wet coat of what was supposed to be a satin lacquer

Have made a bit of a boo boo with the lacquer as I used an extra fast reducer & hardener along with the room temp around 30degrees so it flashed of within minutes leaving me with an unwanted gloss finish

Oh & the car itself is ready for paint :teeth:

  2. Yes, but worried a bit now... I think I'm just going to risk it

I made sure I bought a car that already had the IMS upgrade, otherwise it was something I was going to do. Not really a big job to do if your that worried about it & also a good selling point. The cars with the upgrade certainly sell for a bit more so it would be money well spent.

There is risk in buying any used car & always seems to be something that could fail with every model. look at the vq35de, lots of engine failures due to improper fuel, oil.

  3. Surely you still have to pay the vat tho, even if your not vat registered?

Yes if you import something from outside the EU as an individual, vat or non vat registered business you have to pay vat & duty on the item. Then if you are a vat registered company you can claim the vat you have paid on the item you purchased back. Then if you sell the item as a registered business you are required to pay vat on the sale value of the item.

  4. As above the rattle is to be expected, but 6th gear will be the alignment plate under the gator from inside the car.

Not to sure about the starting issue, assuming the correct plugs (gapped) are installed

Could be tps needs a reset (may have been touched or moved during the plug change? But that's a stab in the dark tbh

  6. So with the mixed opinions I'm still confused.

The car is US spec so LH drive & was in close to original spec when I bought it. So no splitter, no spoiler & the rear quarter side lights. I believe all the JDM & Euro cars had the boot lid spoiler & splitter on the front also without the rear quarter lights.

I think I'm going to continue prepping the spoiler & splitter. Paint them both body colour off the car, that way there will be a perfect colour match if i decide to fit them once the car is painted. At that point I can decide if: a) I want to reduce the height of the splitter & B) change the colour of the spoiler to GM or something similar.

  7. Mine was 2kmiles boosted when this happened, fortunately Berks replaced them under warranty BUT I still got stung by customs, got taxed for the shipping & value of the goods. Just something to bare in mind.

Glrnet also had a set of Berks fail, they didn't break up but the cat material inside came loose inside & gave his exhaust a rattle.
