  1. And thats a 1.4 Skoda. Not being funny, but you kinda expect it from a VXR or Focus RS, but not from a 1.4 Skoda. Id be crying into my dinner anyway
  2. Fair reply Mack, Ill give you that Partworns - you might get yours inspected (actually, by who, the Michelin Man? ) but most people would read that as "help yourself from a tyre pile", thats the dangerous bit. Ive never met a tyre inspector and Ive known a couple of people suffer blowouts at speed, Ill stick with the quality tested option thank you Slicks are a different story but again, if youre using DS2500's you probably arent quite ready for them yet Likewise with the brakes, there are 1500 registered users here and no-one has ever had the same issue, this suggests that its specific to your car - Ive seen well over 450 deg C on mine (standard calipers, discs, currently Carbon Lorraine RC06 pads) and wasnt suffering any fade at all, not to mention that fade is generally down to fluid rather than discs or pads. Sure, brake ducts arent going to hurt but neither are loads of other changes you could make Oil temps - I dont know on my car :o but Ive spent time with others to know its not caused any issues with FI being involved - again, like the brake ducts you could do it but theres a list of stuff Id be doing before I got to that stage. I didnt say anywhere you shouldnt do cool down laps, just that theres no need to keep <2K rpm or whatever, they are more for brakes than engines. I can see youre only trying to help so sorry if I was hard on you at all but Ive been around forums, tracks and modified cars a long time and Ive seen a lot of inaccurate advice given, myths perpetuated and just downright wrong stuff being presented as facts (welded diffs and stretched tyres are two personal favourites ), some of which I wish Id known was wrong when I first read it so I will tend to stick an oar in from time to time
  3. Seriously though, the MPSS are very good in the wet, RE050A are decent enough that you can notice a difference too. If you really want a laugh, try full race wets though, its absolutely incredible how they can make a wet day feel like a dry one
  4. Compared to the Audi and Merc offerings the Beemer feels like a racecar.
  5. OK Mack, you keep telling people stuff thats not correct if it makes you feel good. http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/-warped-brake-disc-and-other-myths Likewise, in your link to that thread (what exactly was I supposed to be seeing in a picture that wasnt there?) you said yourself that you didnt get overheating with DS2500 but did with yellows, regardless of the pad its more likely to be the caliper at fault - I personally dont consider either to be a track pad anyway but its pretty obviously not something that happens very often, Ive never see a caliper change colour before and neither had anyone who answered that thread. An oil cooler kit is at least £200 + installation which I think is expensive for something I dont actually need, and telling people to use partworns rather than new tyres is criminal advice frankly (think about it ....... where did the partworn come from? why is it a "partworn" in the first place?) - Im planning on using a spare set of rear 18's with Nankang NS2-R's as Ive been suffering from my rears overheating a lot, I know a lot of other guys who do similar for track as when you really push "hard" you start to need something different front and back. Even your last post says a lot to me - every track briefing Ive ever been to they tell you they will only accept mechanical fixing of an internal camera, I guess you must have missed that in the "donkeys" youve been doing tracks huh? You have every right to do whatever you want, but spewing forth inaccurate advice while assuming the position of expert is not something Im down with - a lot of people dont have prior knowledge and are at the least will perpetuate the inaccuracy, at worst it could actually be dangerous. Youre stone cold wrong about warped discs, youre blaming a lack of ducting for a brake caliper problem, youre telling people to spend money they dont need to and then suggesting that one should use secondhand tyres from a totally unknown origin in preference to (in my case) RE050A's and MPSS front and back. Sorry of this sounds like a rant but Im not down with bad advice.
  6. Yep, we are at 24 in 12 cars with a second group of 10-15 coming down too, main additions this year will hopefully be a beer pump and a bar Campervans arent great for the drive but my god its better once you arrive
  7. A freind of mine has this map on an E90 335d, he reckons its quicker than his 500hp RB26DETT 200SX. Good work that man.

    Federal 595 RSR

Sorry, you said "other contenders" The RSR is very good, probably the best value for money but from what Ive been hearing the NS2R is a cracking tyre for the money, Ive known two guys from one to the other and really noitice and improvement. Im probably going to go with NS2R's myself next time as Im doing more and more track stuff and Im finding my MPSS are melting pretty quickly, nothing wrong with an RSR though EDIT: NS2R and NS2 are very different prospects
  9. We actually took spare wheels down in the van for that as well, was planned for months in advance The start of this one gives you a better idea of the setup and a better view of the Gendarme afterwards as well

    Federal 595 RSR

Nankang NS2-R, AD08, Kumho V70, Toyo R1R probably in that order Pilot Sport Cup are the daddies but are not cheap unless you can find them secondhand/part used
  11. Back on the horse that threw you I say, then have the steak for dessert
  12. Your experience is different from the guys insuring SXOC and Driftworks then EDIT: Actually, I didnt say it was waffle by any means, I just said from my previous experience its easier to get a policy written for a certain type of car and that saving can be passed on. Do you have your own underwriters or you are buying "off the shelf" as it were?

    bit of a odd one

Why not a Lexus though? In fact, if you are too worried about fuel there are a lot of Luxobarges out there, Im feeling its the way forward - my mate picked up a V reg Merc S500 the other day for £800 and apart from a couple of rust spots its actually mint, only done 90K miles and drives like brand new. Im jealous.
  14. I watch exactly the same thing at Le Mans every year with about 300 other people, we are sorry we have all disappointed you so much. Apology accepted. Is it exactly the same thing though? E.g. an open public road with normal motorists on? Oh, its much worse, imagine a smallish football crowd stopping every single car (even when drven by pensioners) and urging it to burnout straight into the rest of the crowd. Its not called mad friday for nothing Probably my favourite video, this dude is a mate of mine. Note monkey boy dancing and the feelings of the Gendarme at the end as well Thats an open, public road BTW
  15. I watch exactly the same thing at Le Mans every year with about 300 other people, we are sorry we have all disappointed you so much. TBF, if you cant do a 1st gear burnout then you probably deserve to be stoving the car anyway.
  16. So let me get this straight - because youve spent 30 seconds putting your email address into a "register here" box on a forum you immediately become a better risk than someone that hasnt ..........? Ive been told by our club insurers its because an underwriter knows he will be able to offer better premiums when he is insuring 100 of the same type of car rather than 5, that makes a lot more sense to me TBH, but TBF that was before 99.9% of the market went straight to comparison sites.
  17. Errr, if youre offering 350Z specific policies then surely 350Z owners are who you "want" ...........? Most people sign up for the cheapest insurance available and a lot of people join vclubs solely for the discounts, what makes you think the 350Z should be different? you do make me laugh. I'm pretty sure they've mentioned that the people that sign up to forums are generally the sort that look after their car however, if all they're doing is signing up to get cheap insurance what sort of logic is that? This scheme is clearly not specific to a 350z forum, there are other places on the internet.. You know? The scheme will be agreed with an underwriter for a specific type of car, or in some cases owners clubs in general when there is more than 1 model. Anyone who has that car can generally access the better rates available but often the broker will only offer it to members of a given owners club as an incentive for all involved - he will then kickback some of his policy fees to the OC as a thank you. A more tailored policy will always be cheaper than a vague one, thats insurance 101. Its nothing to with "owners looking after the cars better", its a reduction in the standard rate offered by the underwriter due to having a smaller (or no) variety of models covered rather than marketwide, and reduced advertising, administration and other associated costs. As admin of a much bigger club than this for over 10 years and with cheques from 3 insurers that give our club members a discount sitting on my desk as I type I probably dont know what Im talking about though, eh?
  18. Its more fun and quicker than just about anything FWD and the handling and particularly feedback are excellent, its just a bit heavy.
  19. S2000's, Fast Clios, E36 M3's, S14 200SX's, Focus RS .......... TBH once youre moving there needs to be a big difference in performance to be noticeable anyway. As for discussing it, I know Lexx isnt a fan but lets be honest, you dont buy a 300hp 2 seat sports car and not give it the big one from time to time - the odd thread that doesnt state three figure speeds and how you were racing through villages I cant see will ever cause a problem. The PH thread was a powerful read though, wonder why it got taken down?

  21. Why am I still here? I like telling people they are wrong
  22. Ahhh, the lovely Mr Gush, I cant recommend him highly enough but I also know Charlie @ SRR has worked with Syvecs a lot, either way this is going to be one fast car
