Denmark / Norway / Sweden Road Trip - Have you been?
docwra replied to Stutopia's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Ive done a fair amount of business out there, they only come out late at night so be prepared to start drinking at midnight, or later ......... BTW, shop around on hire car, youll find not everyone limits miles Not everyone sp[eaks English either, youre OK in cities but more rural places can be a little tricky. The beer will give you the shits as well, or at least thats my experience Only cheap way to get drunk is to get on a Ferry to Estonia. Seriously -
Top job boys Did you measure the coilover heights before doing them up though? Alignment might be a bit funny if they are at different heights, just a heads up
-
Straight up, Id ask to see the service manager and get him to justify that bill - it takes 2 seconds to confirm the roof isnt working, 10 seconds to check the fuse and 30 seconds to move a seat, but more importantly, you could and did do all of that yourself before taking it in. Id refuse to pay it, telling him he had just replicated exactly what I done already, there was no new information from their investiagtion and there were no special skills or tools involved.

My 350z Race Car Project from Velociraptor Racing
docwra replied to VRRacing's topic in Member Build Projects
Probably too late but I went from Mu's to CL07's and the Lorraines were considerably better, Ive also got Pagid RS29 on my BMW and they are similarly awesome. EBC's arent even in the same game IMO. -
Sounds like a familiar story, the best guys are always in demand, hence they are always busy ........... Id definitely go the standard 2J route, you can get everything (transmission, instruments, cooling etc) in and working properly before you take the final step, its not like youll lose any money on it either - decent 2J's are always going to hold money. Lets be honest as well, even on stock turbos it will still do what, 430hp, thats hardly inadequate is it? I know the losing interest feeling, but surely you remember the last time you had that first drive in a full fat mentalist wagon that you built yourself, Im smiling now remembering when we first got my S13 working with the forged engine ......... and promptly broke it within an hour racing an Evo but y'know
-
Nope, so its quite feasible they would have pulled the OP to find out who he was
-
Why not get that information before you get in your car and waste time and fuel? I know I seem like Im having a pop but Ive been through this myself and 9 times out of 10, if the guys isnt sending you the info as soon as you start asking questions he has something to hide. Good luck, I really hope its the right car for you but alarm bells are ringing ..........
-
Jesus man, youre a dodgy sellers dream, youre now comforting yourself with the thought that a guy youve never met must have checked out stuff you arent going to bother checking out yourself If you cannot get pictures and documented evidence of why it was Cat D and what was done to fix it then dont waste your time, seriously, its cheap for a reason.
-
They dont have a great rep TBF, but then not many of the replica companies do.
-
Big deal, I get that most nights when I walk in the pub .......... and when I return home to the wife afterwards
-
Ill have to keep an eye out for you Stew, I may have seen you this morning actually - Im now in the Black 135 coupe that doesnt go anywhere very slowly
-
Bang on the money, if could be Cat D because both bumpers needed replacing after getting cracked, or it could have been bananaed round a tree - find out what the damage was, satisfy yourself it was repaired correctly and theres nothing to worry about. Personally if I was buyign a wrapped car Id just ask them to remove it before I handed the money over so I could see what I was getting into As for judging people ........ Im a businessman, Ive got loads of people on this forum and about 5 others who will tell you Im as straight up as they come, I can also get anything MoT'd and I know exactly how to hide most faults on a car, at least temporarily. Obviously I wouldnt, but you should never make assumptions because the guy selling "seems nice and honest".

And this is one of my points, if he could have got a local labourer in for £80 a day then thats what your value was People in Ekona's trade rarely get out of bed until they need to cancel until another day anyway
-
If youre getting £150 a day for less than 8 hours a day doing unskilled labour in a bodyshop let me know when you need more staff
-
Sorry, read that back and it might look a bit harsh on Vlad - the point as that you both need to know what the score is before anyone does anything
-
"Technically" it looks like you were helping a mate out TBH - did you actually take 7 days holiday and tell him this is what you were doing? £50 also has to be 3/4 of a tank of fuel as well, were you really doing 100 miles each way every time? Did your mate see £150 of work (thats at least 10 hours hard graft IMO) every time you came in? If he had paid a local labourer £100 per day would he have got less? Sorry, but Ive seen this kind of thing before, one "mate" overpricing his time and input and the other thinking he was just having a "mate" help out, mate 1 then expects work to be done at knock down or non existent price. Whether you like it or not, in time, facilities and expertise the guy could have done at least £1000 of work for someone else, so the net cost of painting your car to his business is £1000, thats no small amount of cash for a start up. Its the difference between cost and price - just because I know my landlord only pays 85p a pint for beer doesnt mean I should expect him to give it to me for that, even if I have done him a favour recently. Likewise, if I pitch up a barrel of Becks Vier thats come into my p;ossession, he isnt going to pay me £3.50 per pint for it. The only way to stop this kind of thing from happening is to agree what the terms of your arrangement are before anyone does anything - Ive no doubt if you told your mate at the outset you wanted £1400 for 7 days of help he would not have agreed, to put it politely
-
Not yet, theres a guy coming to look at weekend and another next week, the missus is using it for work today as well!
-
More like you get what you pay for .........

Hes a famous, and hes a famous thats known for being outspoken and badly behaved. See also Dan Bilzerian, Russell Brand, Christian Bale, Jason Plato, Downey Jr, Charlie Sheen, Pete Docherty ...........even Bieber was trying to get in on the act at one point, the list is endless. and it didnt do any of those guys carers any harm. The public love a badboy, simple as that. If Beeb sack him off, he still has £50m int he bank and Sky will fall over themselves to get him on board, I dont see what the fuss is about.

Fueltopia Barrel Sprint - My First round
docwra replied to StevoD's topic in Motorsport & Track Days
The guy that won it, Rich, is a very good mate of mine, we started drifting together about the same time. Moar practice and youll make him look ordinary, I bet -
Youve got to love all the experts, some great advice here ....... The guys Ive spoken to with it say handling hasnt really suffered, in most cases its better than OE and arguably as good as coilies but ride always improves - the cost is the major issue but if youre just looking to run uber low then check out lift kits like Stance Solutions, they can be used alongside traditional coilovers and dont cost anywhere near what air does. Having seen some of the recent tests (the GTR vid up there is a good one) Id be tempted to consider it as an alternative to a £1500 set of coilovers ......... except I spent a lot less than that on my coilovers BTW, bouncing cars and hitting switches is hydraulics, not air
-
The odd racecar adds to the fun sometimes though, Ive spent many a lap chasing ....... sorry, being chased by Civic/Clio Cup cars and the 911 GT3 thing that was at Spa last time I was there was awesome - ironically we heard he got thrown off for dangerous driving eventually

So BM is moving to Germany...Hello Nurburgring.....
docwra replied to BulletMagnet's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I am a tax specialist, do you want some advice? If youre living overseas and working overseas then HMRC arent interested in you at all, if you are living in UK and working in a country where HMRC have a dual tax agreement you just have to prove that youve paid elsewhere and they will leave you alone again. Switzerland is a bit different as its non EU and has some very strange rules, but if BM is living permanently in Germany then he has to pay into the German system, its actually one of the only EU countries along with Austria where by rights you should start paying local taxes immediately, the 183 day rule doesnt apply. -
I dont want to seem like Im having a go, but Ive only ever been on OPL trackdays, including 2 Circuit Days run events at Spa, another 5 of their events and 10+ from other companies including RSR IIRC, it seems to be the way these days and is always made clear before you book. Ive also never seen anyone overtake in a braking zone, and TBF I think its a little bit naughty to suggest that it happens, I cant imagine many marshalls or track day organisers letting that kind of thing fly. Hell, Ive organised 4 OPL trackdays myself with SXOC and weve only had one incident of someone trying to overtake under braking or on the wrong side, that said we are a car club so youd expect better manners. Likewise, thorough briefings and wristbands are standard form too, Ive no doubt the RSR days are excellent but its not really fair to suggest that other organisers are cheaper because they are more risky. Like I say, Im really not having a pop but trackdays have come on a lot in the last 4/5 years in my experience.
