Let's have a look in different perspective.. pro and cons and in way what tricky Ricky said is right but pending on angle of view.... Pro of spacer:- Widening the track either by spacer of offset, this would reduce the weight transfer. That's good news in a broad brush (as the theory is we can utilise grip on both inner and outer tyre. ) As tyre grip relates to vertical load you put on a given corner. Increment of vertical load you the more grip you get ( that's why F1 aero as an example) but it has a tip over point, where overloading the grip falls rather rapidly. Con:- For both spacer and offsets, the input position is further outboard. That's means the moment arm is greater than standard. (Moment is force x distance). Therefore the input into chassis components would be far higher. (Bushes as an example) Durability will fall for sure. For spacer now in a mechanical bolt joint, the number of components within the sandwich increase the clamp load decreases. The stiffness of the joint can fall. Because previously in stand format, you have the friction due to clamp force between wheel mounting face brake disc and brake disc to hub and bearing assemblely. Now considering a spacer added.... You have wheel to spacer, spacer to brake disc then brake disc to hub and bearing. Therefore in order to achieve the same clamp force and the force to be less than friction forces between the component would be less. Therefore up in torque of the wheel bolt would be required. Then of course to validate the up in torque properly, some scientific tightening experiment will be needed to ensure the stud or bolt are not into the yield proportion of the torque vs angle graph. Maserati Granturismo, Aston Vantage or ...... Decision P8
docwra replied to Sam Mcgoo's topic in Other Cars
DO NOT BUY THE ASTON. They look good, sound great .......... and thats it. Unreliable, ridiculous thirsty, not actually that quick (like 350Z not actually that quick), Ive known three guys own them and all three recommend steering clear. A DB9 is a better bet and not that much more money, but for the love of god not a Vantage. I have another couple of mates with Gransports and they adore them, one lad has had his for a while and its spent as much time in the garage as out, the other guys has driven everything in the world and pretty much put the deposit down straight after the test drive. As for other M1 6RF (catchy name dude) has nailed the list - Bentley, R8 are worth serious investigation and its very difficult to look past 911's ........... Id probably be stuck between the Maser and the R8, and then end up in an XFR-S -
Ive got some that Im selling, Ive just put the thread up on here but imagine it needs a moderator to press the button. One wheel has some slight kerbing but the other 3 are mint, looking for £350 if youre interested?

Errr ......... no, you are massively over thinking this. As Ive said, I didnt like mine with 5/20mm spacers but loved it with 25mm, your best bet is to put them on and see how you get on with it. Creating bespoke suspension setups so you can run your wheels 20mm wider is madness, the chances are you wont even notice the difference in the first place. I lowered my car 55mm, put 2 inch wider 18s on the front and 3 inch wider 19's on the back as well as adding 25mm spacers all round and the car handled noticeably better, no question, you may be pleasantly surprised and even if you arent remember you can always take them off .........
-
From my 350Z, I used them mainly as fronts on my driftcar so they havent seen a lot of action in a while :wack: Fronts are 18 x 8.0 ET30, rears are 18x8.5 ET33 and they are pretty much mint apart from some slight kerbing on one rim (pictured) Tyres are nearly new 225 Toyo T1Rs on the rears and worn but legal 215 Acceleras on the front, Im after £375 delivered.
-
My 350Z handled better with wider wheels and 25mm spacers, no question, and on my old S13 I wouldnt be able to tell you whether the spacers were on or not. They dont actually alter any geometry, why should it be any different fro using a wheel with an additional xx mm of back spacing on it?
-
I think its the harder compound but it wasnt as good as DO-1J, R888 or RSR's, they rears are becoming very sensitive to rain now as well. I dont even think they are that old, have prob been on car for 18 months, maybe a bit more. They are good, just not as good as the others IIRC RSR's are the least durable of the others, I might try some DZ03's next time round but definitely going MPSS for winter.
-
Did a track day at Rockingham on NS2-R's on my 135 at weekend. They were good, predictable, hard wearing ......... but didnt grip anywhere near as much as Id hoped even when up to temp, arguably only as much as an MPSS does. Top marks for durability but not so much for grip

Work Emotion XD9 mate, Driftworks are the official UK Importer these days too
-
Corrected that for you

Hes just said it is, he will clear it later but email if youre in a hurry

If you need me to relay a message then let me know, Ive dropped him a line on failbook to let him know though

Nope, thats Cambridge and its pretty indicative. TBF Ive been having a long running discussion with a cyclist mate and we have both agreed that Cambridge is an anomaly, they are absolutely mental round here. The same mate was kocked off his bike by a taxi last year and came out of the deal a kidney lighter, even if the cyclists are at fault (and he wasnt) they are always going to coem off worse if theres a problem, hence this status quo of who is worse. Fact is there are bad cyclists and bad drivers, but the drivers cause more carnage.

Alright dude, welcome to the "Ive moved on from rusty jap motors" club Give it about 10 years and all of DW and SXOC will be on here I reckon
-
Hmm, Id say 350 wins on noise too, its more predictable in the chassis then the M3 but less communicative. M3 brakes are @*!#, really @*!#.
-
And yet mine gets humiliated down a country road compared to my mates lotus Elise ! I find Elises to be mobile roadblocks on track though, weird isnt it?
-
The car is also less likely to launch itself off the rollers and into something solid, hub dynos are portable too.
-
On track a Zed is a damn quick car, it has to be said - surprises a lot of much more expensive metal, I think the key is how accessible it is
-
I stopped after "theres always a lot of wheelspin on a dyno" and "tyre deformation ......." If you have wheelspin on a dyno then it gives incorrect figures, you just end up with a with a big lump in the middle, and tyre losses are tiny, most decent dynos have adjustment to remove them entirely. ETA: You might have 1hp less between hub and wheel Bodyboarder, but a slight difference in temperature or atmospheric pressure would have the same effect so its irrelevant at the end of the day
-
@octet, no he didnt, apparently you lose 20hp between your wheelnuts and the tyre surface
-
It does say OPL in the blurb, sounds pretty decent actually. I think I may stick myself in for this one, just want to check Spa days first so it doesnt clash
-
Since when has hub and wheel horsepower been different? Why do you get less at the wheel then the hub, is it a property of the alloy its made of or maybe tyre deformation?? Flywheel horsepower is at the flywheel i.e. if the engine (rather than the car) is on a dyno, wheel horsepower is that with transmission losses. I think you are taking "at the hubs" a bit too literally my friend

I was there to watch that lap ......... as was everyone else within a 20 miles radius of la circuit de la Sarthe, I dont think even for the start the crowd was as big. The car is an icon, and was great to see and hear giving it (nearly) full chat, if you ever get the chance to see and hear a 787 or 767 in the metal get it done, you wont regret it

Explosion rocks central Bangkok :( 12 people dead so far
docwra replied to Adrian@TORQEN's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Dont know actually, having seen video it was only a little bomb, apparently hidden under a motorcycle. Didnt look anything like the Muslamic bombs Ive seen recently, more like a pi**ed off student or something
