How different to drive is the 370Z compared to the 350Z?
docwra replied to twobears's topic in 370z General
Errrr ........ very similar cars actually, the 370 feels like a development of the 350 in everything it does, it even looks pretty similar. Interior much better on the later car but handling characteristics are quite similar, the power delivery isnt dissimilar either, if Id shut my eyes I wouldnt be sure which I was driving. 370 is definitely better but by how much is personal opinion, mine is "not enough". Sorry, but a 370 is pretty much what you would expect 350Z Mk2 to be, to call them totally different is ridiculous. -
Not too expensive to run, and some fun. Oh and something quicker than the current 206 1.4 I have use of, which does 0-60 in over 14 seconds. Jesus. If a 207 is "fun" then youre on the wrong board, badly - seriously, can we get a moderator in here, this is depressing. I have an Hdi and I think its a great car, practical, amazing economy ......... but I also have a GTI-6 and an MR2 which knock it into outer space on the fun stakes. Admit it, your missus is buying the car and youre just trying to gain some man points back by pretending that you have some input in the decision

Considering importing 370Z Nismo from Japan - advice req
docwra replied to hmale4yu's topic in 370z General
What, change the suspension very slightly and chuck a half arsed remap on it? I never understood why this forum seems to view the Nismo versions of the 350 and 370 as different cars when in reality the 350 was just a bodykit and the 370 is a bodykit, slightly stiffer suspension and a mild remap, its hardly the difference between a 330i and an M3, or even a Focus ST and a Focus RS. Sure, they look better (arguable in the case of the 350 IMO) but are they really a different car or just the same one with some overpriced mods? -
They are, but most that will get it have had it by now. The biggest problem with an MR2 is the lack of luggage space, you get about two large shoeboxes. Cracking cars though, we are on our 2nd and possibly abut to buy a 3rd, very little touches them for sheer driving experience.

Umm yeah, love to see you on the Krypton Factor LOL Planks and bits of 4x2 chopped at and angle will do it without too much grief, use trolley jacks to get the posts in

E66 which becomes the E111 from Innsbruck (roughly) to Villach. Crap video but about 4 hours of this: http://vid152.photobucket.com/albums/s161/docwra/VIDEO0052.mp4 -
GTI-6, Ive had 3 and although the interior is dated these days the performance and handling are still as good as anything. I replaced all of the suspension with OE stuff a few years ago, chucked good tyres and brakepads on it and used to say that on anything other than a racetrack it was pretty much as quick as my Zed, they got it right with that one for sure.

Been there, done that. Another 150hp and it would be very difficult to move on from but its got a bit too much weight and not quite enough power And after a struggle between M235i/1M I bought a 430hp 135i coupe with M3 running gear, its awesome. Brakes are actually pretty good with high quality pads and it would keep up/pass everything on your list up there other than the Aventador, its about GT3/997T pace in a straight line. Ive also driven an IS-F and although I preferred it to the E92 M3 its a bit big and heavy, an R35 would be good fun but I think you'd struggle to do much better than a 718 Cayman on these kind of trips though.

Still got mine, still going to be buried in it

Yarp, 206 Gti is a not a good car by any means, the Clios and Meganes are much better. Focus is a bit juicier IIRC, you thought about a Swift?

If you liked this one, the Schlumpf Museum in Mulhouse and Petersen Collection in LA (OK, its a long way to go ) are both worth a visit, I might do a similar thread as Ive just about recovered from the Petersen after 3 weeks Cracking pics, the road going R390 is the boy for me -
so the out come as you said of it being a slower car isnt quite true Grip =/= speed, the car with less unsprung weight will be faster in a straight line but slower round the corners.
-
Great post ......... physics isnt subjective though. Less unsprung weight leads to better performance, thats a fact.
-
Thats ........ not quite the spirit but its better than feeling sorry for yourself. Remember: shes the one thats lost out here, not you. If youre proper lucky youll meet an absolute blinder of a replacement and then see the ex out somewhere, at the least youll get the jealous eyes, at best you can tell her to do one as shes not half the girl that the one youre with now is, this should also get you near instant action with the new squeeze too, win win

Ive now spoken to two guys who have spent more pounds on maintaining their Maseratis than they have driven miles in them. Not including fuel. A cheap Mazzer is cheap for a reason, are you that brave?

docwra replied to monkeybrain1234's topic in For Sale
Nope, no price. Im actually test driving one of these in about 5 minutes too, wouldnt have minded a comparison -
This is why you should always do a massive burnout after fitting new tyres.
-
If strapping a supercharger on and hitting 400hp doesnt "fry" then then +25hp from a remap certainly wont
-
Becuase they actually weigh about the same - the 19's are slightly lighter but the bigger tyres would offset that.
-
TBF we dont know if anyone else lost it there, only that one guy was unlucky enough to be caught by John Law. My bimmer went sideways on me coming out of a motorway services the other day when I was totally off throttle at about 20mph, it threw me for a second as expected the TC to kick in but then realised that TC doesnt work when youre not on the loud pedal Id imagine the OP is being genuine as its a little difficult to argue "accident" when youve flicked it onto the lockstops and done a full circuit with smoke pouring from your tyres, which of course is the only way a 350 should be driven. If youre gonna go, then go big
-
Yes, unfortunately youll have a job proving that you werent pulling a cheeky drift. shame, as the difference is bloody obvious to anyone this side of Stevie Wonder. sounds like bored copper with nothing better to do
-
Because you might as well just run 18's, 19 tyres will cost more than 18's if your burning through them on track and they wont really look any better staggered. Yep, mainly this, you also have to split two sets of wheels. But ......... It works, I definitely preferred the feel of 18's against 19's on the front and it definitely looked better than when it was on 18's all round. Despite what looked like a contradiction up there, it is possible to have less acceleration, more grip and less steering feel all at once. The tyre width doesnt make as much difference as wheel weight, tyre compound oprobably has more effect than anything.
-
Sounds like youre a fan of the car and will keep it so its worth putting some money into it. As others have said, 370 and HR arent different enough to justify increased cost, and power mods arent really cost effective so Id sort out chassis and make it sound nicer. If you could find some S/H bits you could probably do coilovers, brakepads, exhaust, intake and maybe uprated anti roll bars or some new chassis bushes for under £1500, car will be so much nicer to drive afterwards too

You're right, maybe it's only 100ths you lose, but it's VERY noticeable in terms of feel. Everything feels heavier and clunkier, and at low speeds like you find on the roads is where you notice it the most. Heavier wheels just make the car feel lumpier and more weighty, which isn't a trait I'd want. Even the difference between Rays and OEM 18s was huge, when swapping between the two. Must stop agreeing with Ekona .......... I ran my 350 on 4 different sets of wheels and my 200Sx on more like 10 and hes right, it is noticeable, particularly on the front end, more than 100ths of a second anyway. If youre only focused on performance then the smallest, lightest wheels is the only way forward,.

It was once TBF it looks like a lot of money but when you compare it to other plastic widearch cars that have gone through I dont think the money is too bad, its just had a fresh respray and new wheels and tyres too. I can vouch that its a hell of a drive too, after Greg had it for a week he called me up and asked "what else" had been done to it as it drove far better than it ever had any right to
