Real life experience of this - every other car in San Francisco/North California is a Tesla but you dont see any driving between there and LA, or LA and Vegas (where there are none at all) .......... I imagine this is because the first journey is 380 miles and the second is 270 miles and if you run out of leccy youll be stuck in a 120 degree desert - we were getting a bit worried in an ICE with a 70 litre tank

Edd Heads For Door Marked 'Do One' at Wheeler Dealers
docwra replied to Stutopia's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I remember being astonished when I found out it was Edd's production company as this means he actually employed Brewer and thought him the best man for the job The recent series has actually been very good, going into a lot more depth on what Edd is up to, will be a shame to see him go. The hatred for Brewer runs deep as well, Ive seen some epic ranting thread running to 10+ pages back on SXOC about him, the man is a donkey raping cockmaster. -
The Sugar Rays were a bit before my time so Ill have to say Tyson, didnt particularly like the man but never a dull moment, absolutely electrifying to watch ......... Benn and Eubank (and later Collins) was what got me into boxing, Pacquiao is awesome and GGG is current favourite I think, at least until Joshua has a decent opponent. Coincidentally I was at the O2 for my first UFC at the weekend and was pretty blown away by it - 13 fights, one was a bit dull but the rest were proper entertainment, 10 minutes break between each so just enough time to get a beer and have a gypsys without missing any action, great presentation, friendly crowd and it cost half what the last AJ fight at O2 cost me, a third what we paid for Froch/Groves at Wembley ....... While a great boxing match is great (I loved Chisora/Whyte, swinging from the hips at the end!) Ive seen some proper stinkers, UFC doesnt really seem to have any as I guess youd be submitted pretty quickly if you werent 100% committed to the fight.

I actually did a track day on them, it was a touch moist:

I ran RE050A on the front and MPSS on the back and Im still here to tell the tale

In my recent car buying mission one of my mates made an excellent argument for buying a Tesla. He had been driving an S500 Merc before and put it like this: "I used to spend £400 a month on fuel. Now I spend £500 a month but I have a brand new Space Car that drives itself" Compelling, to say the least

The Clio was production, this is why Aashes saying its mental - there was no reason for it. The story on the Delta S4's is an interesting one that no-one has ever been able to prove (and I cant find reference for anymore Apparently the homologation cars were forgotten about after Lancia went bust for the eleventymillionth time and left in some Italian warehouse. When a new buyer of Lancia found them they thought they would make a quick buck by selling them off, still on their original, now perished tyres. Following two fatal crashes (probably due to the tyres and the fact the car was never crash tested) they decided the car was too dangerous for the road and destroyed the remaining examples. The other awesome S4 story is that they took one of the Group B cars round Estoril in gravel setup, including tyres, "for a laugh". Supposedly it would have qualified 6th for the F1 GP a few weeks before Link: https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/henri-toivonen-at-estoril-exploring-the-myth

Undeniable. Definitive Essex drug dealer car = black Range Rover/RRS

Well, the geometry changes but not for the better, the Veyron actually sorts itself out so the toe, camber, caster and spring rates are the same when its running at 50 km/h and 400 km/h. Or at least so Ive been told, Im struggling to find anything to support this.
-
How many S4s did they make? Road cars? 200. However due to their immense price (£55K in 1985) they didnt sell very many and ended up crushing most of them. There are still 45 left, and they aint racecars ......... Already put the Veyron in as the defining technological marvel, did you know it changes its suspension geometry as it lowers itself?

See above, the compound charged, mid engined, spaceframed, 4WD Lancia Delta S4. Supercar I'll have. Hypercar, no way. Ekona started the thread, how can he be confused over the purpose of the it?
-
Nope. Its 20 years late to the party so could only redefine the class and it hasnt, at least not in most people opinions. Its repeatedly been described as the softest and most user friendly of the current hypercars, looks fairly plain compared to what it could do and from what Ive read could be driven quickly by your Mum. Compare that to the F1: design brief to make the "ultimate roadcar", buolt and designed by an F1 team, first production car to use a carbon chassis, still has the highest power to weight ratio of anything other than a Venom and was fastest production car for what, 20 years? A relatively standard F1 won Le Mans for crying out loud .......... all that and its N/A as well. If you truly think that the Clio V6 is the "defining" hatchback then you dont understand the question, it has literally nothing defining going for it (most mental would be a Delta S4 for the record). ETA: Dan called the F40 80's Supercar ......... and whilst you could probably make a claim for it being rare, exclusive, fast and valuable enough the F1 is more in each category.

I'm out of this thread, if you can't make a suggestion without someone telling you why it's wrong, this has no interest for me, might as well have made the thread title 'what do the core members think are the most definitive cars, and don't say anything we don't agree with or we'll tell you why you're wrong, even if its a subjective opinion'. Mate, its not that you arent a core member, as with about 30% of the replies its that you dont understand the question, definitive is not really a subjective thing. At least 5 people are all in full agreement that the Macca is THE Hypercar and the Golf is the THE hot hatch. Put it another way, would you really call a Porsche GT THE Hypercar, or a Focus RS THE hot hatchback? Neither were the original, neither are the fastest or realistically the anything -est. Both are great examples of their breed but not the ultimate, the Crufts winner, the benchmark, the example everyone uses as a yardstick or comparator. For instance, Guinness is THE Porter, Hoover make THE Vacuum cleaner, Cheddar is THE English cheese, these are definitive examples.

Agreed on small BMW's, cheeky little remap and they go like bastards too. For me its absolute sacrilege to consider anything 4x4 without looking at Range Rovers, they are so much more everything than an X5 ........
-
RR Phantom, Ferrari 355 and ......... naaah, Id just have a 458 and be done with it I think.
-
This isnt that hard of a concept is it? Think of it like reverse internet pointless, the more people say the same answer the more likely it is the actual definitive "x". So the Carrera GT is not the definitive hypercar, the McLaren F1 was the first and the La Ferrari and P1 are more Hypercar than the Porsche is, the FRS isnt even close to a Golf GTi or Pug 205 GTi. aClio V6 could be the definitive mid engined hatchback silhouette made by Renault I suppose ........? More recent examples include the Tesla and Prius, no denying those one for me ........... some more: Trackday special 911 GT3RS People carrier Renault Espace Pikey driftcar BMW E36 Rotary car Mazda RX7 Car made of wood Morgan (any) Unmarked police car off The Bill Vauxhall Cavalier/Vectra with no hubcaps
-
The first two were direct competitors and you could argue the last two were as well ........... so which are the definitive cars? There can be only one in each category (but as many categories as you like, Im loving the moon car section )
-
Best car for insurgents to mount a machine gun in the back of - Toyota Landcruiser Best car for Communist dictator to travel in - Zil limousine Best car for delivering Tofu - Toyota Corolla

I considered the Quattro but the road car version was a bit watered down IMO, Id certainly accept "4WD performance car" though. Delta, much as I love it had too many normal versions.

Engine cut out while driving, can't start engine, no fault codes!
docwra replied to Rob T's topic in 350Z Technical
Can you hear the fuel pump priming? AFM issue may not give a fault code so it could be that but it should still start and run on limphome rather than die entirely, my money is on fueling somewhere. -
Gotta take some issues here, a 2 seat cant really be an everyday hero (the 350Z is far from a giant killer either) and the Clio V6 isnt really a hot hatch at all, it has an engine where the boot should be. Not picking on Aashenfox either but the Golf Gti, 205, R5GTT et al are faaaaar more iconic than a (mk3 remember) FRS will ever be. And having just seen the last reply, this isnt about what "you" think, its about icons, game changers, seminal cars, decisions that people simply cant argue with. An F type is pretty for sure, but ask 100 people which is prettier and I bet 99 will go with the XKE, even Enzo himself did. European taxi: E class Mercedes Techological marvel: Bugatti Veyron Off roader: Land Rover
-
Modern soft-top sportscar: Mazda MX5 (Mk1 ideally) Original Hypercar: McLaren F1 Rally Rep: Evo 6 Tommi Mak edition There have been better iterations of all of the above but these are the definitives for me.

Latest engines? Which, the hybrid in the Panamera that delivers 516 lb/ft at 1100rpm, the 500hp 4.0 N/A that revs to 9K in the GT3 or the 718 lump thats doing 150hp/litre in standard form? Im not saying they are for everyone (Id have one if I thought that) but never bringing anything to the table is a bit harsh, they have been top or near top of the performance game for 60 odd years now.

Ekona is being very polite, Im less so - youre talking rubbish. Greater levels of grip and feedback should be obvious to any driver, more so if you venture out on track at any point and I dont understand this badge thing - Michelin make the best tyres, full stop, its nothing to do with the name written down the side, Bridgestone are very good too. As for the Porsche bit, Im at a loss - the 911 isnt to my personal taste but theres no denying its an amazing bit of engineering, the Cayman has invariably been descried as one of the best handling roadcars since it came out, the 918 is in the holy trinity of hypercars. No new tech? GT3's are THE fastest track cars in each new iteration, full stop. No new design? Look at the latest engines and what they are achieving, I would mention the fact that they have caned WEC since they came back too but thats a bit different from the streetcars. And Im not particularly a Porsche fan
