  1. These dudes: http://www.brunswickracing.co.uk/index.php Proper oldschool workshop with all sorts of stuff kicking about, they seem to deal with race Alfas and BMW's mainly - I walked in the other day and he was manually milling a sump from billet as "there isnt anything available off the shelf". Think Im gonna like these guys
  2. Superb, good to hear there are places out there that actually deliver VFM on these things, the difference in my car is astonishing compared to what it was before.
  3. Yep, youve already pointed that out and been told thats not what Im getting at here. Search "mixed tyres" and have some time on your hands More grip actually makes this easier, you just have to be going faster in the first place
  4. Out of interest, do CG check: pressures before starting? spirit level on the ramp? roll car backwards and forwards after adjustments? I wet to an old school "string n' wire" race team to have mine done the other day and realised that all of the "expert" laser alignments Ive been paying were probably a lot less effective than I thought .........
  5. We saw Froch vs Groves at Wembley on Corporate tickets and although the atmosphere was awesome, the seats were crap for the money, we couldnt see very much at all. Wembley isnt a good boxing venue unless youre ringside, and when youre paying the same for tiered seating at Wembley as you do for floor seats at O2 its a bit of a no brainer for me. Will definitely be watching but on sofa rather than in stands P.S COME ON AJ!!!
  6. TBH this thread is a beautiful example of what Im talking about. OP is not talking about buying budgets which I think we all agree is asking for trouble ........... but has ended up looking into returning perfectly good tyres because even though they are putting wider, better rubber on the car it will apparently have more tendency to oversteer. WTF? IIRC Ive recently seen someone considering junking a perfectly good pair of RE050A's because they have been told that using them with a paid of MPSS will similarly unsettle the car. Frankly, this is bullshit, I ran the same combination at a wet day at Blyton and was in the 3 fastest cars all day long, despite being well down on power on most. The fastest was an E36 325i and I think he had a different tyre on each wheel While you can argue that for optimal performance using the same tyres on each corner is best, the difference between the performance of two quality tyres on the same car is not going to be apparent to most drivers, its certainly not going to affect the handling to the extent thats being claimed here. Even if it is, tyre wear, tyre age, tyre pressure and wheel alignment have far more effect so should we be checking those every day too? If not then I shouldnt worry too much about £20 or 10mm difference in the tyre that was on the car before TBF. If your approach to driving is "I took that corner at 53mph yesterday so I must be able to do the same today" then youre going to crash, just through changes in road conditions. If you drive to the conditions and grip available then its regardless of tyre compound, you could put Bakelite tyres on your car and still stay on the road. The obvious counter argument is the "emergency situation" but as Ive said infinite times, MPSS on the front and RE050 on the back are going to stop a lot better than even FK453 on all 4 wheels.
  7. MPS4S maybe, where you heard that the MPS4 is better though, I read its less performance focused than the MPSS was. Also, pressures are just as important as compound, this should probably be incorporated into the future 350Z-uk tyre advice/paranoia
  8. Well said, its that confidence you need. In many years of doing this its become clear to me the CL's, PF's, RS29 and Carbotech XP8/XP10 are the only options that give this, people can tell me EBC are great all they like but invariably said people havent used any of the above.
  9. This really, no doubt the Morgan shouldnt have pulled out but you should be waiting for this kind of thing to happen all the time, Id ike to think Id have just puled to the right and gone past him if it was me ........ or at least tried. Its like when you see something in the road, you should be aware enough to steer round it, I think our Pug man could have been a bit more on the ball
  10. Might as well make it three .......... they are excellent, as good as anything Ive used previously and Ive used a lot of stuff. Mine are fitted to an E82 135i, previously it was on Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs and along with M3 arms, ARB and diff was a good fast road setup but lost a bit of composure when really pushed, the car was hitting bump stops too often for my liking too. I was considering Ohlins and KW but was convinced by MeisterR's info and having just returned from the Nordschliefe decided to take the plunge and Im bloody glad I did. On the road they are just as compliant as my previous setup and noticeably better over potholes and really rough surfaces, they deal with small bumps and ripples really well too. Theres no harshness or crashyness, I actually drove home on the track settings and to be honest didnt really notice it being any less comfy than with the damping wound right down. Good quality, great performance and when compared with Ohlins incredible value for money as well, although I really like HSDs on a 350Z its worth saving a bit more for a set of these IMO
  11. I had a Tiguan as a hire car recently, was pleasantly surprised at how well it drove.
  12. I got back from Nur last week, absolutely epic scenes. Concerning youre not rating the brake pads already, mine were literally on fire when I came in after one two lap session (had to go straight off down the road to cool them) and were the key to going fast confidently, you need that extra 10% in the bag for when you **** up ...... CL pads FTW on any track car, the amount of noise they were making after they cooled down a bit was comedy though.
  13. Id put money on the fact that even with the original tyre sizes the only difference you would notice is more grip, youre using newer, wider tyres. If you regularly drove on track you might notice slightly different behaviour but its hardly going to spit you into a ditch under normal circumstances. Unnecessary tyre paranoia is a recurring issue too often on this forum IMO.
  14. Thing is theres probably a week in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and one in Germany (both business) still to come
  15. Yarp, postcode changes have a massive effect even if youre just moving next door. £1400 is heavy, but its not ridiculous if youre under 25 and you have a 370 - Im 38 and paying £900 odd on a 135i in a village where Ive only ever heard of one car getting nicked in 25 years ......... and that was an insurance job
  16. Travel a lot for work so just keeping to the week long ones: Off to Nurburgring next week Orlando 2 weeks after that for a week Ireland for a week in Mid May, starting with Guns n Roses at Slane Castle Le Mans for a week in June (not with Ekona and Steve) Couple of weeks touring France in July Week in Spain in October 2 weeks off at Christmas yay Just realised that looks terrible, I do work hard when Im here, honest
  17. Its like the old Capital Punishment argument though, if you save 10 lives but cost 1 that you wouldnt have done, is that progress? I dont consider myself as a statistic either, I pay more attention and have more car control than the "average" driver so would a self driving EV actually be safer than me? I know which Id trust more
  18. I harbour hate for the Pirellis too, go conti.
  19. I see it like Nuclear Fusion - we are nearly there but there are a few of the finer details that need to be ironed out first - the tech is impressive but how long it will take its anybody's guess.
  20. To be frank, if the point youve been making is "a 350Z can see over 350hp" then youre pointing out the bleeding obvious, a 380RS does it in standard form. If crank, pistons/rods, compression, fuelling, heads, inlet outlet and management can all be changed then you could probably see 350hp from a 35 year old 1.4 CVH without resorting to FI.
  21. No, my issue is that 350hp isnt possible with "just a remap", while those cars are well over 350hp (and Ive no doubt of that) they have had a huge amount of work done so not really sure how they are relevant? If youre posting them to prove that the dynos are accurate then you need some comparison numbers as well.
  22. "Some degree of automation" isnt "the end of driving" though, is it? I work in aviation and as most people know, larger aircraft all have autoland/ILS and autopilot along with supporting systems like RVSM and TCAS - ILS is that accurate that its been wearing out specific parts of runways, drones have shown us that they can be piloted remotely as well ........ but there are still a couple of guys sat in the comfy seats at the front, see also ships and trains. Its going to be a little while before computers are 100% responsible for making sure you get to where you are going with no human input, it will be a lot longer before the self driving option is removed entirely.
  23. How about this then? (Is a race car cheating? ) Or there's this... Being a race car isnt cheating but Id say a 3.8 litre crank probably is. Oh, and rods, pistons and Motec 800 ECU. Or an 8600 rpm rev limit. Or oversize valves, one off intake manifold ......... no doubt theres more. The second one is Sasha Anis again, hardly bolt ons and a remap. Give it up mate, seriously.
  24. Yeah, I thought they got a bit self indulgent on the buggy bit too - while Sabine can obviously pedal I dont see what the fascination with her is really. Ford GT bit was great, and a celeb that can actually drive in the car, amazing!
