McLaren P1 LM sets Nürburgring lap record: The Preparations
docwra replied to wizard's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Teh dude that owns it is a friend of a friend, dont know if the vid shows it but it was driven down there, did the lap, then driven back again. He was commenting on a FB thread, I loved the way it gets referred to as "the" rather than "one of", whether thats preceded by "P1 LM" or "fastest car round the Ring" doesnt matter. And in the metal (carbon?) I still think its got the edge on the LaFez, it makes a 918 looks positively ordinary. -

£7K isnt "quick sale" money for an 03 with a few niggles mate -
Never had a problem with either TBH, they get better as they get hotter though.
-
Cant remember his name but he was a nice bloke, IIRC ran an evil Cerbera and had first hand knowledge - http://www.clbraking.co.uk/ Cant remember what I paid but it was around the £350 mark I think.

Ive used it a fair bit (I value my car at about £18K and drive it like I stole it on track) and have paid between £70 for a UK day up to about £250 for a Nurburgring trackday - Id be amazed if a TF policy for 10 days is actually £170, particularly now there are only two companies that do it .......... The way I look at it is Im already doing £150 on tyres, £150 on fuel, probably £50 on brakes, easily another £100 on other wear and tear parts ....... if its Bedford its nother £50 on fuel, if its Nur its another £500 on travel, hotel etc. so another £100 isnt really going to break the bank, it also gives that last 2% of confidence to push. I wouldnt bother with some places now (Bedford, Anglesey, Spa spring to mind) but for others (Cadwell, Nur, Brands GP) its worth it, even if only for the first time you visit.

I was actually going to go with RC6E as I thought they would be a bit more gentle on the disks but after talking to the man at CL UK (a very knowledgeable chap) he said that they had experience with CL6E leaving deposits on discs if not used hard to the point of causing vibration, he reckons RC6 would be better for a car that was driven normally as well as given death on track. TBH I think the deposits are whats making my RC6 squeal like stuck pigs anyway, 2 laps in on track and its gone., I certainly wouldnt want it any worse.

I had RC5+ on my Zed and thought they were the absolute bomb, didnt think youd ever need anything better, it felt like the rear wheels were coming off the ground sometimes .......... I now have RC6 on my 135i and realise I was slightly wrong Pagid RS29, Performance Friction and Carbotech are all a class above anything that EBC make IMO too. The RC6 are proper noisy though, you need to be comfortable with pissing off every pedestrian you stop within 50m of before fitting

Some older ones as well, remember working in a garden next to one, I was going out of my mind by the end of the day. Some city McDonalds have them too, fortunately I hate McDonalds.

The 1er feels smaller when youre driving it as well, certainly narrower. Crazy.

Like the one on the page before? Its a 240i these days anyway

BMW + pink metallic wrap = job done I know Im a bimmer fan but can someone explain to me how a Golf stands out more than 2 series BMW though? Ive been asked to take a kid to a prom in my E82 tomorrow, while I could see it in an FRS I doubt youd ever get that in a Golf would you?
-
Can be made immensely fast in a straight line, like 11 second 1/4 fast, DSG is amazing and its a practical 5 seater too. However Ive been told they are very uninspiring round the corners, Haldex innit. FRS is a great car IMO, but ......... you know it makes sense.

Superb posting, great story too. I have a horrible feeling that if I ever drive one again Ill go buy one about 3 hours later, I have similar issues with 200SX's and Skylines .......... Id struggle to look past the GT4 though

Hello Jester, Im mainly found in Linton these days But dont have a 350Z so might be difficult to spot -
I think Stu has already replied but this is one of my biggest issues in politics today, calling up history from 10, 20, even 50 years ago to try and justify a point today. The fact is that even 10 years ago the world was a different place with different people in it (the second Iraq war was now 15 years ago) so its no more valid than comparing a 2003 BMW with a current one and people were referencing Churchill in the Brexit argument No one party or person can ever be held 100% accountable for anything thats happened in the past, this is why we have a parliament (and a second house) in the first place. While the Tory "investment" in NI can be seen as a bung, Id take 100 of those over Labours continual pandering to the unions in the 80's just to maintain support, its hardly a new concept.
-
Oh, totally a bung, no doubt at all
-
They will be crucified by the Corbynistas* but doesnt look terrible to me, should also go to cementing support for both parties in NI. Rather £1Bn was spent on NI infrastructure than £40Bn on totally free further education TBH. * Most recent example was following the Grenfell fire where every man and his dog were blaming Theresa May and Austerity personally for the deaths. Now its becoming clear that the contractors invokved werent working to spec, where are the apologies? Disgraceful IMO but undboutedly the shape of things to come.
-
I think the fact that Winston Churchill memes and a blatant lie on the side of a bus were probably the main thrust of the "leave" campaigns advertising suggests this is the case.
-
Try it on a trackday, equal measures of pride and terror

The British cheer was much bigger when he eventually got past, we were in Houx and could only just hear the grandstand over the campsite Only time I remember a bigger cheer at LM was when JB went past Vettel at the (delayed) Canadian GP, we were all hyped from the 24h and that was the cherry on the cake, place went mental

Totally down to humidity. I went from Dubai to Vegas last year - both were around 40 degrees but Dubai was 70% humidity, Vegas was about 10%. Dubai you couldnt spend more than 30 seconds outside air con before sweating, in Vegas I didnt even feel hot. Was talking to a guy about this over the weekend and he said it reminded him of a guy from Moscow who was complaining about our Winters. He said "but you get down to -20 or more over there" to which the Russian replied "being cold in a dry -40 is positively pleasant compared to being cold AND wet for 3 entire months"
