Serious Q Dan ........ what are your thought on people changing wheels for wider items, does this not throw off the balance of the car to a greater extent than changing tyre compounds? What about pressures?
  2. M550d is "only" three turbos Good shout though, I had one as a hire car in Germany last year and loved it. Very fast and surprisingly good on fuel too
  3. I do have a recruitment company, yes. Maybe you didnt notice but you claim to have the FRS on order while still owning the 370, and go onto say you will "also" acquire the Orange ............ "If they take it back I'd replace it with a Focus RS or something" would probably have got the message across without coming across as quite so superior.
  4. How is this relevant other than to meet your weekly "big myself up" quota? Seriously, Im sure Im not the only one getting fed up with you garnishing every post with a reminder of how much money you have to throw about, give it a rest mate
  5. If the Caster is out of tolerance then Id reject the car. Seriously. Something really isnt right and if it means your wheels arent pointing straight its going to affect performance forever.
  6. Extension has been in "planning" for just over 2 years now, see 300 year old comment. And anyway, me lounge is still me lounge regardless of TV capacity
  7. My house is about 300 years old, so ceilings are at best 7 ft, and closer to 6ft where theres a beam, and there are quite a few. One wall in front room is nearly entirely taken up by a window, another by a large inglenook fireplace, another has exposed beams running every 550mm. 2 corners have the fireplace behind them and one has the door opening into it. I guess we could mount it on the ceiling and lie on our back to watch TV but that would probably get uncomfortable after a while.
  8. Im probably going to remap my BMW and I need to map my MR2 as well, they also have no relevance to this thread Or ask for personal experience on the Owners Club forum and listen to the guy thats mapped more of them anyone else perhaps? For the record you also need to take any advice/information/experience from someone trying to sell you something with a large handful of salt - the traders here are as good as anywhere but as with anywhere they have a vested interest in promoting their own products.
  9. I finished up buying Sony KD43XE8396, the picture was a bit better than LG, particularly on 4K and I like the Android OS. If you have limited space check with a bit of cardboard before committing though, I was going to be 49 inch but it wouldnt have actually fitted in my front room, Id have had to open the window to watch telly
  10. Been doing massive research on this and it came down to the LG or the Sony. The Sony is more expensive but has Android OS, the LG has its own and there is a little discussion over whether it will be supported indefinitely. Probably going to go for LG but will be heading into Richer Sounds for a SBS comparison. 4K is much more noticeable the bigger the screen (some say theres no point on a 40 inch), HDR is essential but 4K Premium isnt. OLED is definitely the way forward but is a LOT when compared to the LG particularly, I think Ill get one next time round. The other thing that surprised me was how physically small a modern TV is, a 49 inch isnt actually much bigger than my current 32 inch.
  11. Works for me - 4 seats, doesnt cost the actual earth, reasonable fuel economy, big hatchback boot, quick, fun, good looking (depending on taste) and 4WD for when it snows. Golf R does too, its got split/fold rear seats man! Excellent dumpmobile.
  12. You also need somewhere to keep it, ideally out of the elements, somewhwere to work on it and take it apart ........... and TBH when you can buy a working one for relatively little money Id just do that, enjoy it while its working and fix it when it doesnt
  13. Ive taught some people myself and no-one ever just jumps in a car and does it, donuts and FO8's are valuable experience for when you start doing it with walls and other cars about. Weirdly we always found girls were better than blokes as well, more listening and less throttle mashing I guess, the younger guy usually pick it up quicker as I suppose they have less to unlearn.
  14. From what Ive seen and heard CAT isnt drift training as such, its more car control/driver training. They arent teaching you how to get a car sideways before an apex, how to extend a drift, how to shift lock and how to flick - Ive no doubt its invaluable but its not quite the same as FlatoutFactory, Prodrift Academy, L2D etc - all are staffed by drifters and these would be my recommendation Regardless, any of this kind of training is worthwhile as it will give you more feel for what the car is about to do and more control when it does go wrong, Ive been on wet trackdays where drifty types are literally flying past everything as they are so much happier with the car on, or past the limit. Its also immense fun and brings a whole new aspect to empty roundabouts
  15. Most of the third paragraph is wrong stuff, is there something else I missed?
  16. OH, and FWIW a mate has a SC E92 and reckons its the best car hes owned and it wont be going anywhere for a while, the guy before him had it for at least a couple of years. I have first dibs when it does sell too
  17. Well said that man, Ive had a lot of nice cars but dont feel the need to mention them in every single post. Anyway .......... I went and drove it about 3 weeks ago with every intention of bringing it home with me. I didnt, obviously. Without going into great detail the car is what it says it is and all the work was done at Jez's. It has a cheap exhaust system that sounds cheap, and an unnecessarily harsh paddle clutch and while I know Im spoilt for torque (notice how I dont have to list the cars ) it just didnt feel anywhere near as fast as the numbers say it should be for me. The seller is not the best either, he wasnt sure if Jez still had the standard parts (he does), knew very little about the car or its mods and is clearly having a rough time at the moment .......... but to be fair could have made a bit more of an effort as well, despite agreeing in advance he told me I couldnt drive it when I turned up (2.5 hours drive) then when I produced my trade policy cert told me it wasnt worth the paper it was written on, I nearly left after about 90 seconds. If you want a SC 370 then after changing clutch and exhaust I doubt you could go far wrong for the money, but its painfully obvious to me that there are much better cars available for the money.
  18. And you work in the Pentagon I suppose? Nice of them to let you post on this forum while youre at work, I have to say
  19. On a homemade kitcar shims are perfectly acceptable, but at the end of the day its still a bodge, Id be dubious about doing it to a brand new car ......... Ive found caster affects steering speed/quickness and feel rather than overall stability, the angle of the upright has a lot less to do with tramlining than the tyre size/inflation, toe angle or camber (in that order). Genuinely hope it sorts it but have a feeling you might be looking into it further.
  20. Caster isnt adjustable unless its made to be adjustable ......... not sure how they are going to magic that one up. Also dont think that caster being slightly out of spec is going to be causing tramlining, in my experience some cars are just more susceptible to it than others, regardless of what they cost.
  21. Whether you like him or not, or believe he is altruistic or not its refreshing to see private company principles (efficiency, profit, marketing) being applied to Government level research projects. Ive met a few guys who work for Space X and they get worked like dogs and arent paid particularly well when compared to NASA .......... but their budget is much smaller and their results arguably more impressive.
  22. Aye, Bill Gates has done some very impressive work with his billions too, unfortunately he cant put his name to a lot of it but a lot of WHO money is directly from the Gates foundation. I mean, I can understand why a millionaire wants another million, or even a 100xmillionaire wants another 100, but once youre a multibillionaire what else can you do with it?
  23. Not really though is it? Saturn was not a reusable rocket and if the tech was there in 1967 its still there now, we just havent had the requirement to send 120 tons into space. The Shuttle can carry 27 tonnes, deliver it, and land back on earth again, Id say thats progress. Weve also stuck a space station up there, landed probes on Mars and sent 5 outside of the solar system and are looking at tourist flights in the next couple of years, our understanding of space and the universe in general has come on massively in the last 40 years. TBH, other than the exploration side I dont see much point in continually blowing billions on sending things up in the sky anyway, until we have some form of hyperdrive it not like theres anywhere worth going anyway, the advances in communication, medicine, environmental protection and even battery technology are a lot more relevant to us as a species. You dont have to watch reality TV but youre obviously happy enough with the internet
  24. If you do another trackday they probably will sort themselves as they get uberhot again, if you dont then like davey says do another bed in procedure and it might just be enough
  25. They are all reasonable .......... except the for the tax band, if a 350 is higher tax band then youve got to allow others that are too. "Stunning" looking cars are usually two seaters as well (all 3 of your examples are), if its an all rounder then surely practicality > looks? And I still say 335 touring or a Golf GTI, if you want stunning put some awesome wheels on them
